The Delta's Daughter Chapter 184
I scoffed to myself, that was not what I had just witnessed. More like he is afraid of losing that precious control he holds onto so dearly. Hunji is so intent on not letting people see what he is truly capable of that he forgets, that we are all beholden to our own dark skeletons, and maintaining the level of control he seems to have will be his undoing one of these days.
I didn’t like boats, to begin with, but now I really didn’t want to have to spend other two-plus days on a charter with Hunji.
Hunji stormed off towards the Inn and Mike offered me a hand and pulled me up from the ground “Dude,” he said scratching his neck and looking a little embarrassed “I guess no one ever told you Hunji is the only one to go toe to toe with Lamia and knock her off her feet” He gave a small chuckle and wrapped his arm around Jonda when she came to stand next to him. Their level of infatuation is sickening and the smell of their arousals was making me crave my own pussy to pound. I wondered if Mike would share his little bit.
I had heard that Hunji was a force to reckoned with, but now that I have experienced it for myself, I would not repeat the mistake of trying to rile him up. That was enough of a response for me. If I was a werewolf, my tail would surely be tucked between my legs.
I moved around Mike and Jonda, the young couple in love holding hands. Hunji was several yards in front walking at a quick pace towards the Inn. I too just wanted to retreat to my room after embarrassing myself like that.
‘He put you in your place,’ My beast, Eyota made fun of me. I told him to shut up and groaned internally at his mocking.
“Oh, my moons! Shit! Mike!” Jonda cried out in a desperate voice. I turned to see what was wrong and saw Mike bent over on the ground, on his hands and knees. Breathing heavily, his body shaking like he was hurt.
“Hunji!” I shouted, seeing Mike in agony and a worried Jonda bent over him. I heard Hunji’s hurried footsteps before they abruptly stopped and I turned back in his direction. “Shit”. Hunji was now in the same position as Mike, on all fours. Were they going to shift
“Tobias, what’s wrong with them” She was freaking out and she wasn’t the only one. Her hazel eyes blinked away frightened tears. Gone was the sassy bitch we saw in the room when Darrius was tortured. Gone were the googly eyes of love. Instead, her face was full of alarm and distress as she bit the bottom of those full lips.
I shook my head, I had no idea what was happening. I looked from Mike to Hunji as they both came up on their knees and stretched their arms out. Mike’s eyes had turned black like Hunji’s they both donned the mark of the knights in their irises. “Don’t touch him,” I said slowly to Jonda. Afraid they may wolf out, I had heard what Hunji did the night he received his ‘knighthood’.
“What..” She looked at me like I had three heads, her hands still on Mike trying to get his attention, her worry seeps out and shows her vulnerability.
“Back away.” This time I was more forceful with my words and she hesitantly removed her hands from his face and shoulder and stood up taking steps back toward me. No sooner than she had they both cried out and the voice of their wolves growled out,
‘I call upon the power of the Knights, your brother needs you. Take his pain and lessen the burden and share it, and give back your strength. My Queen commands this of me.’ They said in unison their claws extending and teeth elongating.
Then they began to count ‘One, two, three, four, five, six, seven…’
“Tobias,” Jonda worried, taking my hand “I don’t understand…”
“Neither do I,” I admitted this was odd and scary but my beast told me to leave them and let whatever was happening, play out.
‘Forty-seven, forty-eight, forty-nine, fifty…’ They continued to count and all we could do was watch.
The higher they counted the more Hunji’s veins began to pop, his muscles contorting like he was holding back something. I worried for Jonda, if either of them wolfed out they could attack her and I couldn’t fight off both, but I would do my damned best if it came down to it. I was no slouch but these were high-ranking and skilled wolves.
Jonda pulled on my arm, “Oh my goddess, what is happening to him” She gasped and turned my attention to Mike. Small arcs of blue electricity began sparking across his skin. He shredded his shirt, still counting, eyes wide and towards the sky and spaced out, the small currents licked his skin like a high voltage coursed through him.
‘100’ They both said at the same time and as if on a cue a huge clap of thunder resonated through the clear sky and a bolt of lightning came down striking Mike in the chest. I wasn't sure who screamed louder, me or Jonda
Hunji’s body had slumped to the floor and Mike dropped just after him. Both lay unconscious in the middle of the street. The hum of the thunder and the strike of lightning left a buzz in the air. An eerie quiet engulfed our surroundings.
I didn’t realize Jonda and I had jumped into each other’s arms, gripping the other tightly in fright, until we came to our senses and pushed away from each other. I scrubbed a hand over my face and Jonda gnawed at her lip nervously and kept giving me side glances.
“Help me move them,” I told her with a hushed voice. She couldn’t lift either one of them on their own, so we would have to move one and come back for the other. Luckily we had almost reached the Inn and it was mere steps away. “Pick up his other arm.” I pointed to Mike as he was closer to us.
Jonda stepped forward and poked one of her dainty nail-clad fingers on his arms, jumping back. I couldn’t help but chuckle at her reaction. “Shut up, I thought he might… you know, still, be… I thought he might electrocute me. This isn’t funny Tobias.” The woman was feisty but she was right, he may very well have been still ‘active’, is the best way I can call it.
She bent her head down to his chest, pulling her auburn hair to the side “What are you doing woman” I asked with confusion.
“What does it look like Listening for a heartbeat, idiot.” I again chuckled at her frustration, forgetting she did not have the advanced hearing of a shifter due to her wolf being dormant.
“He is good, I can hear it from here or I would be in a total state of Panic. Lamia would have my balls if I let either of them die. Besides I’m pretty sure this had something to do with her seeing as their mark heated up and their eyes held the mark of a knight.”
“The mark of… what” She looked at me scowling. Oh yeah, she had no idea.
“Let’s get them indoors, and I will explain all this weird shit to you,” I said grabbing Mike's arm and gesturing for her to grab the other.
“Creepy shit.” She grumbled as we hoisted him from the ground and began dragging him back to the Inn.
We left Mike just inside the door and went back for Hunji. After getting back with Hunji I carried them one at a time into my room, Jonda and I took a seat at the small table provided and she opened up a bottle of whisky she had stolen from the bar downstairs, not even bothering with glasses she took a long pull and then offered the bottle to me.
“So what is the mark of a Knight” Jonda asked as she leaned back in the rickety wooden chair, taking another swig from the bottle then running her perfectly manicured red nails through her hair and ruffling it up a bit.
I began to tell her from the beginning what I knew, which wasn’t much or everything. I personally didn’t understand it either only knowing what I did from what Lamia and King had told me. By the end of my tale, Jonda sat there with an expression of pure unbelief. And for a few minutes just sat and stared at me.
“So you’re telling me, King Mathias and Queen Lamia both have the blood of gods in them” She rubbed her temple and pulled her eyebrows together. “They are gods And the Knights are a gift to protect their Queen”
“Something like that,” I replied totally over all this shit. “They are demi-gods, or at least King is. I guess when these two morons wake up they can tell us what the fuck happened.”
