The Delta's Daughter Chapter 133

I woke up desperately needing the bathroom and rolled out of the bed, trying not to wake Mathias. It wasn’t until I was standing that I noticed he wasn’t there, his scent was still strong so he hadn’t been out of bed long.

I went to the bathroom and when I came out, instead of going back to bed I left the room in search of my mate. I followed his scent downstairs and into the kitchen, but he wasn’t there. I tried to mind-link him but his block was up. He obviously didn’t want me to know what he was doing.

I chuckled to myself because there was no way he could hide from me. Whatever he was up to, I was about to find out. He had been slightly cold since we had come back to the Clan Mansion, even toward me, I knew he had a lot on his mind as we all did, but it was no excuse for him to take out his frustrations on me or ignore me.

My feet led me towards the front door of the building and as I opened it I got a slight whiff of his rum and vanilla scent. I grabbed my stomach as a small pang of pain shot through it and a slight burning sensation in my chest flared. This was happening quite often these past few days and the only way I felt settled was when Mathias was with me.

The night breeze was warm and tickled my bare shoulders and the grass under my feet felt freeing and soft. I stood for a moment taking in the crisp mountain air. It was beautiful when it had been covered in snow, but now summer was approaching the barren white lands had turned into a whimsical forest of greenery and on a night like tonight, you could almost smell the dirt churning and the new vegetation come to life.

As if on auto-pilot my feet carried me over the greenway and towards the familiar path that led to their cells. I felt Inanna stir. Her desire to shift and run was strong.

‘Soon’ I promised her. Immediately I felt her calm down and her anxiousness ease. We couldn’t shift into our wolf but she had said we could morph into our beast and it would not harm the babies. Like Lycans in their ‘were’ form, they could shift while pregnant because our bodies stretched out rather than reshaped like our wolf form.

However, Mathias was still skeptical and had asked me to wait to morph, until he had more clarification on whether I or the babies would be harmed or not.

When I reached the door that led down to the cells, I could smell my mate's scent strongly. He was here. I could also smell the decay and rot of the cells along with fresh blood before I had even opened the door. I took several gulps of the fresh air before opening the door and descending the dark stairs. The aching burn in my chest, and uncomfortable pain in my stomach, lessened slightly.

My stomach did flip-flops the further I ventured, but I swallowed down rising nausea, with great difficulty.

“You shouldn’t be here.” Mathias's deep voice startled me, making me jump when he appeared in front of me seemingly out of nowhere.

I put a hand over my chest, calming my racing heart. “And neither should you, I woke up and you were gone. What was I to think Especially as you blocked me out.” I gave him a pointed look raising one of my brows, daring him to say anything else.

“The smell of blood makes you sick right now, I don’t want you down here.” His tone was cold and final but I wasn’t about to listen to him.

I shoved around his thick muscular body, gulping in his scent to override all the others that swarmed around me, and proceeded further into the dank hall to where I could hear Finnegan’s heavy breathing.

The cell door was already opened and one guard stood across from it. I felt Mathias heat at my back and pleasurable little shocks ignited down my arm as his fingers ran over my bare shoulders. I was only wearing a light camisole top and a pair of loose-fitting shorts. I bit back my moan and shook the feelings of desire from me, it would do no good for me to release my lustful scent down here, it would only agitate my mate more if his brother smelt my arousal.

“Baby, I don’t want you down here, I can handle this,” His voice was now smooth and caressing, the icy tone he held before, melted.

“Without beating the shit out of him” I skeptically asked.

“I was about to start interrogating him. I haven’t touched him… yet.”

I turned, looking up at my mate, my hand reaching up to cup his handsome face. “Let me talk with him King” I cooed “Maybe he will talk if he is treated like a person and not a criminal.”

“He is a criminal.” He grated between clenched teeth.

“Maybe,” I said and turned back to face Finnegan. He was sitting on a cot, his head in his hands looking deflated.

“Finnegan,” I called out to him and he lifted his head towards me “Can I ask you some questions” I kept my tone soft and sympathetic to his position. He nodded his head and I pointed to the chair in the cell. “May I sit” Again he nodded.

“If you fucking touch her I will kill you where you stand. Do you understand” Mathias wasn’t warning him, there was no mistake that what he said would happen if his brother put one finger on me.

“Why did you save me, Finnegan” I thought I would start with what I wanted to know the most.

“I never wanted to hurt you. I didn’t want to hurt anyone.” I heard him gulp down the lump in his throat. “I-I didn’t have a choice, he made me.”

I squinted my eyes narrowing them at him “What do you mean made you How did Orion make you hurt people”

“Does it have something to do with this” Mathias threw a small metal chip at Finnegan’s feet.

Finnegan lifted his hand to the back of his neck, feeling and rubbing it, then bent and picked up the small chip, examining it. His head snapped up to Mathias and then his wide gaze shifted to me. “How, is this from me”

Finnegan held a look of shock on his face and I took that moment to really look at him. He was handsome, he looked like Mathias, except where Mathias had naturally tanned skin, dark hair, and grey eyes, Finnegan had pale skin, almost white hair, and the most alluring violet eyes I had ever seen, Although his build and height were almost as equal to Mathias.

The two brothers were polar opposites. Like Ying and Yang, the dark meets the light. At least in looks, I didn’t know Finnegan as a person, so I couldn’t compare them in that sense.

“We took out of you when you were unconscious, you almost died,” I told him in regards to the chip the Clan doctor had found.

Xander was quite sure the little chip had triggered when Finnegan was stabbed by Mike and almost died. It had ‘shorted out’ and caused an electrical current that shot straight to Finnegan’s head and heart. Of course, this was all speculation; Xander needed time to examine the chip before he could determine its function.

“You should have let me die.” His dejected tone made me flinch and I wasn’t sure why. My wolf growled in my head his statement, she wasn’t happy that he was so ready to die, so easily ready to give up.

I went to lean forward, my intention to intimidate him but my larger-than-should-be stomach got in my way, so instead, I leaned back and let out a slow breath.

“Listen to me carefully Finnegan; I don’t believe you are a bad person, despite the circumstances. Now, I have a very good friend, as close as a brother and more and he went missing a few weeks ago. When I say I need to find him, what I mean is I will do everything and anything necessary to find him. Do you understand” My tone was cool as a cucumber, my words slow and calculated so he couldn’t miss what I didn’t say. “I also want to know about these sleeper spies you and your father had hidden in the packs.”

I waited for a beat to see how and if he would respond. Finally, his gaze met mine and I drew in a sharp breath as his violet eyes swirled with flakes of silver and held my stare. I shifted uncomfortably, his eyes bore into mine, creating heat and I felt my face flush. Mesmerizing, was the only way I could describe the way they saw looked into my soul.

A low threatening growl echoed from behind me and Finn’s eye quickly looked away from mine, a small smirk gracing his lips. I wasn’t sure what just happened but I was glad it was over. He had left me feeling flustered and the heat in my cheeks was still there.

“I will tell you whatever you want to know, but I ask of two things,”

“You have no right to ask or demand anything” Mathias spat out. Finnegan, ignoring Mathias’ displeasure carried on.

“I want to know if Petra is OK. And I want you to find my sister.” He glanced at Mathias and scowled him “Those are the only two things I ask in return and I will tell you as much as I know. You have my word, my Queen.” He finished with a small bow of the head and a tilt, baring his neck in a sign of submission to me.
