The Delta's Daughter Chapter 21
LAMIA
I got back to the palace after Damon dropped Tawny off, then me.
I was making my way up to our floor, still on a high from making two new friends today. I surely did miss Kira and hadn’t spoken to her in a while. I would have to give her a call later tonight, see how she’s doing, I was interrupted in my thoughts when the King linked me to come to his office.
Great, what did I do or not do now? I thought.
I made my way to his office, knocking softly.
“Come in”, he bellowed.
Entering, I saw my father and Beta Michael sitting there and Queen Sara standing next to him. Shit, I was in trouble. I knew it and my dad’s tight-lipped expression confirmed it as such. I took a seat next to my dad across from the King.
“You summoned me your highness?” I asked, bowing as I sat.
He rubbed his palms over his eyes “Lamia, did you threaten and attack another student today?”
Double shit. Well, I might as well own it now, I wasn’t ashamed. “Yes, you highness, I did.” I sat up straight lifting my chin at my matter of fact answer.
“Damn it Lamia!” My dad growled.
The king cleared his throat “Alpha Nicholas has complained that you not only attacked his daughter but also threatened to rip her apart and would like you to be punished. He said there were two other witnesses. Do you have anything to say?”
“Yes I do, your highness.” Fuck that bitch, “That bitch and-“
“Lamia! Mind your manners!” again my dad growled at me.
I looked at him sternly, then moved my attention back to the king and began speaking with more resolve.
“As I was saying your highness. Yes, I did threaten to rip her guts out and also pinned her against the wall.” A communal groan sounded through the room as everyone shook their heads at me “However, I found her, Ella, and two of her friends beating the crap out of the cat shifter from our pack. The girl was bleeding and didn’t stand a chance.” I held my hand up to my father so he could let me finish “I pulled her off and pinned her against the wall. When she insulted the girl, and then your son, my wolf came forward because she saw it as a challenge. So I told her if she challenged me, my wolf would rip her to pieces.”
“Lamia, Alpha Nicholas wants you to publically apologize.” The king sighed.
“I will not. She was causing harm to another student because they weren’t a wolf and I believe this has been going on for a while. Ella was picking on the weak, exuding her power as an Alpha's daughter and needed to be put in her place, your highness.”
“Well then, that settles it” the Queen, who had been quietly standing, now clapped her hands together, casting us a sweet smile “Lamia, I am happy to see you sticking up for lesser members of the pack,. However, next time, please keep your hands to yourself so we can avoid this conversation again.”
“Hold on, before you leave, how did she insult Kellen?” The king interjected.
Shit, “She implied the prince only fucks skank's.” Crap I didn’t mean it to come out like that. I could feel my cheeks going red. I really needed a filter. It didn’t help that Kellen was still sleeping in my bed most nights, not that everyone was happy with that, but they had accepted it.
The room was silent for a few seconds before I heard the chuckling of Beta Michael behind me. My father and I turned to look at him, the king’s eyes wide and the Queen glared at him. Looking at the Betas' red face, who was trying to hold his laughter back, I too had to stifle my giggle before I got myself into more trouble.
“Well, Lamia, I think that will be all. You can go now dear. I’m sure your mother will have an early dinner for you.” The Queen spoke with a hint of embarrassment in her voice but her blue eyes held a hint of amusement.
I stood and bowed to the royal couple before turning and giving my dad a hug and kiss before I slipped out the door. I knew he and I would be having a conversation later. There was no disappointment in their expressions, just a collective concern, not because I stood up for a weaker member of the pack, but because I showed my power, my strength to someone outside our pack.
That was always the fear from my father and the King. Well concerned, I should say, not fear. They felt my strength and size of my wolf should be hidden from other packs. Concerned that people would want to use me, along with the fact I have never felt the need to submit to anyone, including the king. When they say I am ‘unruly’, they don’t mean I’m a bad child. No, it literally means I cannot be ruled if I do not want to be.

MIKE
I waited outside the back of the pack house east wing for Kellen, Tyron and Lamia. Tonight we were running patrols with the warriors for a few hours. Lamia had finally been cleared physically and mentally for duties. It was good that she was getting out with us again. I know the last couple of weeks have been hard on her. She wasn’t one to sit still and we had kept her out of the loop also for now, not wanting her to stress, as Kellen had said, she was still waking up sometimes in a cold sweat from nightmares of the bear shifter.
I knew she wasn’t scared, far from it, but I think the idea of the were-bear tossing me around like a rag doll and would have killed me if she hadn’t come to my rescue, still played a huge roll in her disturbed dreams. We hadn’t had the chance to really talk to each other about it. Mainly because Kellen or her dad, or my dad, or someone, was always around. Maybe tonight, if we paired up for patrol rounds we could talk a little. Goddess knows I am plagued with dreams every night. I thought I had died that day.
The way I was thrown over 500 feet against a tree, shattering bones, limply lying on the ground as I felt the thundering paws reverberate against the hard ground, coming closer and closer. When I was finally able to open my eyes, I saw Lamia battle the bear in her human form. Watched as she used every ounce of strength to fight him and then climb on his back and slowly separate his head. The look of pure anguish on her face when his claws dug deep into her thigh is not a scene I will ever forget.
She saved my life. If she hadn’t interjected, the bear for sure would have ripped me limb from limb. I couldn’t get up to help her. My wolf healed my bones quickly, now we had reached maturity, but it still took time for everything else. After the initial adrenalin and shock, I managed to walk back to the cars that day. Once we started moving, my body gave up. I laid on the seat opposite Lamia. I couldn’t move a muscle for a few hours and then it still took another few days for me to completely heal.
I owed her my life. And I secretly swore my allegiance to her then and there.
Finally, Kellen and Tyron made their way to me, breaking me from my own repetitive and consuming thoughts.
“Where’s Lams?” I asked, glancing behind them.
“I’m here, I’m here” her voice came, as she dashed out the door. “Sorry had to get the third degree from mom dad during dinner. All because I didn’t let Tawny get her ass kicked by that bitch of an Alpha daughter!” she groaned.
We all chuckled because we had heard that her father, Alpha Nicholas of the Blue moon pack, had complained and wanted Lamia to apologize.
Yeah. Right. If there was one thing I knew about Lamia Langley, she was a true person for justice and if she took action against someone, it was justifiable. There was something about that cute little kitten and her dark skin that intrigued me. The orange eyes and matching hair were uniquely beautiful and, despite her nervous aura, I felt like there was a reason she should be with Lamia and that she was someone that could be trusted. Plus, I was pretty sure Tyron had a thing for her. I inwardly chuckled at the thought of Tyron with the little kitten. Tyron was a large guy, almost as big as me and Kellen, just a little leaner, stocky with short tight curls, dark brown skin and big brown eyes.
We hadn’t seen Tyron for almost two years as the three of us were away from the Alpha Academy, but when we came back it had been like we had never been away, Tyron falling back into our friendship like a day had never gone by. Out of us three boys, I would have to say Tyron is the most caring, the most empathetic out of us.
Kellen, as calm as he always appeared, could be a beast, his wolf getting the better of him sometimes. He didn’t usually ‘loose it’ but when he did, if you were smart, you would move out of his way. Me, well, I was ever the play boy, light hearted and only serious when the situation called for it. Now, Lamia, on the one hand, well, as kind as she is, and as tough as she is, was still our girl and we always wanted to protect her. Even if she didn’t need it and we are all fully aware, she knew she could protect herself and others. Still, I think it is her heart we want to protect the most, her pureness and love for us.
I watched as Kellen wrapped his arms around her and took her in for a kiss, stealing her breath. I felt a pang of jealously ripple through my heart. I was happy for them and hoped to the Goddess that they were right and were mates, but that didn’t lessen the pain that I loved her and still wanted her, despite her not being my mate. Duke, my wolf, whimpered at the sight of their affection. He wanted his own mate so badly.
“So are we gonna pair up and go make the rounds or what?” I said, clearing my throat.
“Or do you two need a room?” Tyron chuckled at the pair.
They pulled away, Lamia’s cheeks flushed as she realized they had an audience.
“Piss off” she chided.
“Tyron and I will pair up and run the northern border. Mike, you and Lams run the East border and meet back up here, link me with any issues.” Kellen commanded.
We split up, heading towards our respective borders with our partners. Once Lamia and I reached the edge of the forest, we headed down a short path and would shift once we got to the edge.
“I’ve missed you these past few weeks” I said, breaking the silence.
Her face broke into a broad smile, her small nose scrunching and bright green eyes shining “I know, right? I have seen you but I feel like I haven’t really spent any time with you. Is that weird?” she asked, turning her gaze to me and grabbing my hand, lacing our fingers like lovers would.
I didn’t pull away, it was natural, and we had been holding hands like this since we were pups. I swung our joined hands and nodded my head. “You’re right, it seems like since we got back we haven’t had a minute to just hang.” I cast a glance at her, her head nodding in agreement.
“Well, we are having the BBQ and a pool party this weekend. It seems like a good time to chill and just enjoy and have fun.” The skip in her step as she said that let me know she was excited for this weekend.
“Yes, then the weekend after you and Kellen finally turn eighteen. Plus, we will be celebrating all three of our birthdays together this year.” I replied.
“Mmm, I like that we can all celebrate together this year. “ There was a little bit of apprehension to her tone, I noted, but didn’t pursue it. If she wanted to tell me what was bothering her, she would, in her own time. She wasn’t one to push, she liked to sort through her own mind first, liked to know her own feelings before opening up.
I resolved to leave the conversation open. “You know you can always talk me to Lam’s?” I wanted her to know I was there for her “even if it’s just to vent, or if you need another ear to help you make sense of stuff.” I finished, giving her a side glance to see if I could gage her.
“Of course Mike, thank you. It goes both ways, you know. I’m always here for you, no matter what.” She looked up, giving me the most genuine and sweetest smile, melting my heart. And at the moment, all I wanted to do was pull her into my arms and hold her. I did not though.
We finally reached the end of the path, our hands parting from one another as she made her way to a tree to remove the loose-fitting tee and basketball shorts she was wearing. I headed to a different tree to remove my shorts, giving her the privacy and respect she was due. Although I wouldn’t mind seeing her naked, and Duke agreed. She was a fine looking woman and my cock agreed.
Then again, my cock gets excited for most women. I think I have a serious problem.
After shifting into my huge dark brown wolf, Duke, I came out from behind the tree to see Lamia’s wolf Inanna waiting for me, her wolf’s gaze cast into the deep forest that lay in front of us.
At first we didn’t notice, not until Duke took a tentative step towards her and she turned to face us. Her smooth black coat had a midnight blue shine to it, the white stripe across her bright green eyes more prominent. I stopped in my tracks as I looked up at her, and looked up and still raised my snout until my head was bent up to look at the towering wolf before me.
If a wolf’s eyes ever grew wide and jaw slacked open, then that’s exactly what I was doing right now.
Holy shit! I thought as my eyes wandered across the wolf's form in front of me.
I was definitely taken back and in awe of her larger-than-life wolf peering down at me. Duke was a big wolf, almost as big as Kellen’s, larger than my father, but Lamia’s wolf, Inanna! I have never seen a wolf as gigantic as hers. She had grown since the last time I saw her shift. The last time she shifted was when we were attacked and she killed the were-bear. Her size looked like it had doubled and, because of the coloring of her wolf, she looked intimidating to say the least. Duke took a step back; her sheer size alone engulfed the small space between us. She looks like a wolf described in legends. God like.
I turned back to the tree I had shifted behind, and shifted back into my human form, pulling my shorts back on. My hands were slightly trembling, not from fear, but from shock. I quickly linked with Kellen and told him he would need other warriors to cover our patrol. When asked what was wrong, I just told him to meet at the indoor Gym in half an hour.
I came from behind the tree and grimaced at the wolf in front of me. “Shift!” I commanded with Beta tone.
*What why? What’s wrong?* Lamia's voice came through the mind-link puzzled. She was obviously clueless about how big her wolf was.
“Lamia, commands may not work on you, but as future Beta of the pack, I command you to shift.” My tone was even keeled this time. Luckily, she didn’t question me and went behind her tree, emerging a couple moments later dressed.
“I need you to go to the indoor gym and meet Beta Michael there immediately. I will be right behind you.” I used as much authority in the order as I could.
“Yes sir.” She replied. Lamia opened her mouth like she was going to say something, but then must of thought better of it as she closed it just as quickly and took off to the gym that was located on the other side of the training fields.
*Dad!* I called out, opening a link.
*son, Shouldn’t you be patrolling?* he came back rather fast, much to my liking.
*Yeah, so I need you to meet me and Lamia in the indoor gym. I've got something to show you. She is already on her way there and I’m right behind*
*Is everything OK son?*
*Umm yeah, I’m not sure, better to show you than tell you* I chuckled. I could already imagine the look on my father’s face when he saw the size of Lamia’s wolf.
*Yep no problem will be there in a minute or two* He replied, cutting the link. And I made my way in the same direction as Lamia had taken off in.
I walked in the gym to find Lamia sitting on one of the benches, my dad had not arrived yet.
She raised her head, eyes narrowing at me “What’s going on Mike?” she asked.
“I will explain shortly, just waiting for my dad to meet us here” I didn’t want to give anything away yet, her questioning gaze burning into me.
