The Delta's Daughter Chapter 140
TALA
I stood outside my father’s office, pushing myself against the wall as tight as possible, listening to the conversation that was taking place inside.
“I brought the fucking King of wolves, show me some respect Vargr!” A familiar voice hissed and bit out at my father. “Show me some respect, because all this… can be taken away.”
“You dare to threaten me, you disgrace of a bear!” He shouted back at the man. I could only think of one were-bear that would talk to my father like that, aside from Orion. Jack.
“Since Orion’s death, a power struggle has emerged; you do not want to find yourself on the opposite side to me.” Jack spat back, the tension in his voice strained and vicious.
“I will take back my rightful title as King of Bhakhil, it is my birthright!” Along with the anger, there was also desperation in my father’s voice.
So he truly was born a royal. He always said he was a king, but I could never believe him.
“I want what’s owed to me Vargr… Where is the witch I know Orion had you hide her.”
“I don’t know where she is Jack… As you said yourself, the continent is in an uproar, kingdoms are at war!”
“I want 1 thousand chips and the witch…” I heard jack begin then there was a beat of silence before a third man spoke, a voice I had never heard. It was smooth and calm,
“We have ears listening to us.” His smooth voice carried to my ears, he sounded friendly enough but I knew better than to trust a wolf that walked with a bear.
Before I could move and make a run for it, the door to my father’s office opened and a large hand snagged my hair, I yelped from the sting of having my hair pulled. I was yanked backward and dragged into the room. The door closed behind me.
“And who might we have here” Jack fisted my hair tight, pulling my head back so I had nowhere else to look but at him.
He ran his nose along my neck, inhaling my scent then let the tip of his tongue taste the flesh just below my ear. I cringed and tried to pull away but his grip fastened tighter around my red hair, I let out a whimper, but that only seemed to spur him on.
“She smells delicious.” Jack purred. He pulled his head back and looked at me, his blue eyes looked so kind and full of life, like a deep blue sea, yet his body language told a different story. He was tall and bulky, his dirty blond hair cut to a neat length.
“Tala,” My father spoke my name through clenched jaws.
“Tala So grown up since the last time I saw her and much prettier than her dead sister.” I was shocked to hear him say my sister was dead, although I already knew it. Maybe because I hadn’t seen her die or her body, I don’t know but the way he said it had my eyes staring wide at his and my mouth parting.
“Maybe I could just take her until you give me what I want.” Jack chuckled. He finally let go of my hair, only to push me into the grasp of the unknown wolf.
“She has been promised to Beta Baron's son. You can’t…”
Jack whipped his head towards my father and let out a menacing growl that had me shaking, the wolf holding me chuckled and my father took a step back. “And you promised me a thousand chips and a witch, yet I have none.”
“What Jack is trying to say, Alpha Vargr – is that we know how these chips work. Give him what he is owed or we can take the Wolf king from you, not only that,” The wolf looked down at me, his hands that were securely fastened around my shoulder and waist, now began to roam. One palming a breast the other gliding down my stomach while still pressing my back flush against his front. “…We could also take away everything, including this little princess.”
I felt his hot breath at my ear “Would you like that little red” His smooth and even voice calmly taunted me, sending a shiver of fear down my spine. “In fact, I have decided, she shall be escorted to the games by myself and Jack today, what do you say, Jack” He looked up at Jack, his hand groping my breast harder. His other hand found the waistband of my long skirt and pushed his fingers just under it but not going any further.
My father’s face was beet red and his fists were coiled tightly, arms ramrod straight as he tried to compose himself. I thought he would argue, if anything for Jasper’s sake, as he was meant to announce our pairing at the games today.
Of course, I shouldn’t have expected anything remotely heroic from my father.
“Fine.” He said with a cold breath, “But you cannot fuck her, do I make myself clear You can have your pick of any slave girl, shit I will even give you my Luna, but she must not be touched. I want her intact when she mates with the Beta’s son.”
“Oh we don’t have to deflower her, to have our fun, you know that Vargr.” Jack winked at me and the twinkle in his eye as he said that; scared the shit out of me. It looked so… innocent, yet I knew he meant every word. My legs shook, barely holding me up, there was no doubt in my mind they could smell my fear. Especially when the unknown wolf took another sniff at me and I felt the low vibration of his growl vibrate against the pulse in my neck.
“Now about these chips… Oliver let her go, we will have her later.” Jack said with an icy tone, his eyes wandering over my body, settling longer on my chest.
Before the conversation went any further, the wolf, who Jack just called Oliver, reluctantly let go of me and my father sent me out of the room, telling me to get ready and dress up now that I had two new escorts.
Leaning against the wall, I put a hand over my heart and one over my mouth, trying to calm my shaking body down. He wouldn’t just pimp me out like the slave girls, would he As I thought this, I internally laughed at myself. Of course, he would, if it meant him getting what he wants or staying out of Jack's wrath, then I was as good as sold. He wouldn’t blink an eye at handing me over.
There was no hope of getting out of going to the games now, which was why I was originally standing outside his office door, In hopes of persuading him to let me stay home, in the palace, which was a slim chance, to begin with, but I was going to give it a shot and plead my case. Now, however, I realized my mistake.
My mistake was thinking that somewhere deep in his cold heart, he actually gave a shit about me. How stupid of me.
I walked away from his office and made my way up to my room looking for Eloise and Jasper, now that my heart had calmed down a little and my legs seemed to start functioning again.
What I really needed to do was let my wolf out. It had been so long since I had last shifted and let Mora run. Once a month I was allowed to shift and run in the Palace gardens, always under guard. I was sure it wasn’t for my safety, but rather to make sure I didn’t make a run for it.
My wolf was quick and slick, she was big, even for a female Alpha Wolf, and her red fur danced like flames of fire when she ran. The first time I shifted was when I was 16, I was so happy my wolf was so beautiful and I wanted to run, just like the other pups who had shifted that night, but my father commanded me to shift back again.
When I shifted, I was met with an angry glare. “You will not shift again unless I say so.” He had spat the words at me, so much hatred in that one sentence. That night seemed to be the icing on the cake and just fueled his loathing of me. I couldn’t do anything right, his detest for my mere presence was made known when he banned me from the table.
He had always treated my mother horribly, calling her names, hitting her, and cheating on the mate bond. The night of my shift I could hear them arguing, as a newly shifted wolf my hearing could pick up little bits. Like when my father called me a good-for-nothing carrot whore, or when he told my mother he should just feed me to his pets.
