The Delta's Daughter Chapter 152
I furrowed my brow, so he wanted out Oliver didn’t want to live the life of a rogue or trafficker anymore. “…but why” I asked truly wondering, not prepared for his answer.
“Your mate, he will have me killed on sight. I am not ready to depart from this realm and would actually like to enjoy what the other side has to offer for once. Now, I propose a deal.” His sinister smirk back on his face had me huffing out a little breath that was full of tension.
“I know what is beyond that wall, “He pointed towards the westerly wall “And what is in those mines can help me disappear and live very comfortably for a very long time. Give me access to those mines and I will help you keep your mate a secret.”
What little hope I had deflated. It wasn’t a secret that my father’s money came from the mines. That’s how he was in a position of power. His mines produced the biggest and most abundant diamonds. The walls down there were covered in rough and uncut stones from top to bottom. To add to that, the river that crossed our lands produced more gold than most had ever seen.
My father was not poor by far, which is why so many turned a blind eye to his misdoings. The slaves, the gladiators, the cheating, no one cared so long as they were getting a cut or were in good graces with my father. The sad thing was, those mines had belonged to my mother’s family; until they were paired and then married and because he was an Alpha that came from a noble family, he instantly became the successor and the mines were signed over to him through the marriage.
Now I understood. In order for Oliver to disappear, he would need the funds. Especially, if he wanted to live comfortably as he had said.
“I don’t know how to get you access to those mines,” I said truthfully because I honestly didn’t care about the money, gold, or precious stones. My father had the mines locked up tight, no one got in or out without being thoroughly checked and weighed.
I would happily help Oliver if it meant he left me alone.
“You have a week to figure out where the witch is and to get me access to the mines. For now, I can keep Jack away from you, but after that…” His hand let go of mine and reached up to tuck a strand of my hair behind my ear, his eyes roaming my face in a caressing manner “…After that, I wonder what your father would say if he found out your mate was none other than his prized Gladiator, The King of wolves”
He would kill him on sight! That’s what he would do! I jerked back from Oliver’s touch, the lump in my throat hard and thick. The cunning bastard was blackmailing me. I narrowed my eyes at him, determined to not back down.
“Oliver, sir, It sounds like you have everything to gain from this… deal. Yet the only thing you have offered me is to not tell my father that my mate is a slave” Oh yes, I could be cunning too. I may not be the bravest, but if he wanted something from me, two could play at this game. There was one thing my father loved more than bloodshed and that was money and his mines were his money.
“That hardly seems like a deal to me. What would my father say if I was to tell him you were here sitting on my bed asking for access to the mines and the witch girl, blackmailing me I am already promised to someone, so whether the Gladiator wolf is my mate or not, it really doesn’t matter does it” I internally praised myself for my fast thinking.
Oliver stopped and glared at me, I could see his eye twitching, visibly showing a crack in his plan. “Now if you want me to help you obtain your fortune and the information about something I have no clue about. I suggest you bargain better with me, other than throw idol threats, because let’s be honest, all I have to do is mention your interest in my father’s little jewel mine and he will have your head cut off where you stand.”
I tilted my head up in defiance, Still feeling quite smug with myself. Proud that I had been able to turn his bullying conversation back on him and my wolf gave me more confidence when the feeling of her pride rushed through me.
“I had no idea you were this sly young princess. What is it you want” Oliver gritted out through his teeth. I had made him mad and the way his jaw pulsed I knew I had backed him into a corner. At least I had hoped I had.
“I don’t know; let’s wait until the end of the week. It will depend on what information I can find on the witch. I’m sure I can come up with something, but I need something from you in exchange for a large fortune of diamonds. Until then let’s hope I don’t let it slip to Alpha Vargr that you were, oh so, very interested in his operation.” I raised an eyebrow at him and cocked my head. “Do we have a deal Oliver Sir”
I had used Oliver’s own method against him and I felt like I looked and sounded confident, however on the inside I was shaking like a leaf. Alone with this wolf in my room, he could do anything to me and I would be powerless to stop him. By the time I had linked a guard, I could already be dead. Worse, if he decided to rape me, my father would probably turn a blind eye to it.
Oliver didn’t know that though.
“We have a deal, Tala.” Standing from the bed Oliver agreed to my terms. Now I just had to think of something he could do for me. As he got to the door, his hand on the knob, he turned to me. “Oh by the way your precious mate will be the main fight today.” With that, he left.
Leaving me to replay our conversation over and over in my head wondering if I had missed anything. Surely it wasn’t that easy to get Oliver in my pocket, was it I was sure he could be most useful to me, somehow, in some way. I just needed to think about what he could do for me. What he could offer me.
