The Delta's Daughter Chapter 176

8 min 1 views

I exhaled a long breath once I was out of Oliver’s suite. It was only then my hands and legs began to shake. Oliver was going to try and save Kellen from being killed by my father, but he couldn’t stop him from sending Kellen into the arena later today. I prayed to the gods that he would survive the fight, not knowing what my father had planned for him.

If Kellen survived, which he had to, Oliver was going to try and help get him out of here. It would take a little planning but with more people backing us, we had a solid chance. Oliver wasn’t as watched as me, Vargr didn’t trust him or Jack, but he sure liked them a whole lot more than he did me. I was counting on it.

Now I had to figure out how to obtain two sacks of jewels. I hadn’t figured that part out when I offered Oliver the deal. I was just desperate to help my mate.

I met back up with Jasper and El, and for the rest of the afternoon, we snuck around the compound discretely, getting word to all our supporters of what Vargr had planned for the games.

Hopefully, the people’s word could change his mind if it came down to it. The timing was too short to come up with any viable plan of action. But planting the seed in minds of supporters was easier than we thought. Kellen had more people on his side than we could have hoped for.

JASPER

“Cameron,” I greeted my future Beta and one of my other best friends, aside from Tala and El. “What are our numbers looking like” I asked him in regards to the task I had given him to find warriors and pack members that would be loyal to me and Tala once I took over as Alpha.

“Good, but not as good as they could be.” Cameron was my trusted man here in the palace compounds. Unlike Tala, he and I were able to attend a school that was where we had met and bonded through the years.

Now that we were older, both 23 and the majority of our peers were the future of the pack Cameron and I had begun to suss out who was loyal to me as the future Alpha of Bhakhil and him as my future Beta. Over the last week, we had secured the loyalty of over 100 warriors and guards. That seems like a big number, but it was a far cry from the 1500 other warriors Vargr had in his army. Aside from that Eloise and the palace maids had been gathering the omegas.

Each loyalist to us hated Vargr and his rule. Most had a family member that had been enslaved to work the mines, some knew whole families who were stuck down there day in and day out.

If it wasn’t for the fear the kingdom had of their ruler, I was sure we would have a lot more people ready to stand against Vargr and my father. My wolf growled at the mention of the word father.

I had always wondered why Vargr treated Tala so awfully, why he loathed her. Tala was a kind-spirited soul who he locked away in the confines of the Palace walls. Instead of attending school, she was given tutors. She wasn’t allowed to shift and run freely like us, instead, Vargr had commanded her to never shift unless he gave her permission. I could only guess how weak her wolf was. Well up until she marked her mate.

I shook my head when I thought about what she did, this could seriously screw all our plans up. I was also a little jealous, she had marked her mate, a slave and I could even touch Eloise in fear that if Vargr and my father found out they would make me reject her, or worse, end her.

“Some shit went down last night,” I told Cameron as I began walking the perimeter with him.

“Oh” His footsteps faltered.

“Yeah, our timeline has moved up. Tala marked the Wolf King.” I sighed out and then lifted my head to see his reaction.

As expected Cameron let out a groan and threw his head back “Fuck, so all this work has been for nothing If Vargr finds out, he will kill him. What kind of time frame are we looking at now Because we need to start getting people and things in place, it wasn’t going to be easy before, now it's going to be near impossible.”

I nodded, agreeing that it was going to be damn hard now. “We need to figure out how to get him out and Tala.” Tala was my main priority, especially everything that came to light last night. I hadn’t even told Tala the whole story. I was still trying to come to terms with it myself and was debating on how much I should tell Cameron. What I now know could put me in a very bad light.

FLASHBACK TO YESTERDAY

I walked into Alpha Vargr’s office following him, my father, and Jack, along with Oliver. Vargr was fuming after the Wolf King's display of power in the arena. I could tell by the way he was pacing and his eyes were going from his usual hazel to a dark, almost black as his wolf made himself present.

“Have the guards bring Teal in.” He hissed the command to my father whose eyes immediately glazed over, mind-linking the Slave barrack guards. A few minutes later Teal, Vargr’s champion Gladiator, was escorted in wearing a pair of silver cuffs.

“KNEEL!” Vargr commanded him and Teal sunk down to his knees, his head lowered in both submission and embarrassment.

I watched as Vargr threw punch after punch at him. Once he stopped he grabbed Teal's hair, yanking his head back so he could look him in the eye and with a growl he revealed something that shocked me to the core, “twenty-one years I have fed and clothed your little whore, 21 years I looked the other way, only to find out she is mated to one of you!”

“I believe, Alpha she marked the slave too, he wore a mark today in the ring.” I looked at Jack, only now realizing it was Tala they were speaking about. How did he know

“She did what!” Vargr cried out, this time delivering a kick to Teal’s face who slumped sideways down on the floor. “Is this true Did your little bitch mark that fucking wolf” He screamed while kicking him in the ribs. Teal said nothing.

“I did not raise her to be mated with my son, just for her to spread her legs for her mate!” He screamed. “Baron, show this piece of shit Alpha slave how to talk!”

I watched my father pull out a silver-bladed knife and begin to cut the Gladiator in various places on his body. Teal stayed silent but I could see he was in agony. I was still replaying Vargr words, his son

I stayed silent as my father worked Teal over until hundreds of cuts were spread across his body and his face was unrecognizable. “Looks like he could do with some wolfsbane in those cuts of his,” Jack said with a sadistic smile curling upon his lips, His eyes dark with his beast.

Vargr called the guards in and had them take him below the palace where there were a few holding rooms he used to extract information from various people.

*Who is Vargr’s son* I asked my father through the mind link, I was meant to take over as Alpha but Vargr had just said ‘his son’. I could tell I was not going to like the answer, whatever it was.

*Not now son* He hissed back at me, still walking.

I stopped mid-step and halted my father by grabbing his elbow. “Who is Vargr’s son” I asked letting my wolf come forward.

“Jasper, not now.” He bit back.

“No, now would be a really fucking good time father, because after what Vargr said, I don’t think I am going to like the answer.” I stood firm, not letting him go, staring him down, and daring my father to tell me the truth.

“You are not Beta, you are Alpha. And that is all I can say.” I saw the look of betrayal flash in my father's eyes and an emotion that reflected regret. His eyes began to soften, begging me to let it go.

I dropped my grip on him, momentarily stunned. Lies. It had all been lies. Mine and Tala’s life had been one big fucking lie. As the truth of who my real father was and who Tala’s real father was, settled itself in my mind, so much began to make sense. The veil of ignorance had been lifted showing me the clarity I had yearned for all these years. I felt nothing but sick.

“Do not show him weakness. No matter what, you are still my son and you will mate with Tala.” He took this opportunity to walk away from me, following the Alpha down underground.

His words left me broken, and humiliated, he hadn’t outright confirmed it, but I had just found out Vargr was my father. Above all, I felt like an imposter. I didn’t know who I was anymore.

END FLASHBACK

“Vargr needs to be taken out, he can no longer hold power and the sooner we kill him the better,” I said to Cameron, deciding not to disclose everything. The fact that Vargr was my real father was a secret I was willing to take to the grave. I had no intentions of letting anyone know that truth.
