The Delta's Daughter Chapter 38

LAMIA

We found ourselves on the training field, yet again, I was currently teaching her advanced combat moves. She knew a lot from her dad, but he could only train her so much with his position in the pack and she hadn’t attended pack training because she feared being ridiculed because she was not a wolf. I scoffed at that.

Zane hadn’t left my side, even accompanied me to the hospital and stayed while I visited my dad, who was still unconscious. He looked better though.

Zane was leaving to go back to his pack in a week. He had to; as an Alpha, he had a pack to run and had been away long enough. He had left his Beta in charge, but a pack needed their Alpha. I understood. Didn’t mean I had to like it though. His Mom and sister left for home yesterday and I went to say goodbye to them, promising to see them soon. They were more than happy about mine and Zane’s pairing.

It was crazy how close Zane and I had become in these short few days, it had barely been but a few days and we were more than attached to each other.

My life had certainly taken a major change in direction. Shit, it was only two months ago that we had left the academy, and found out I could take down one of the most powerful shifters around, with my bare hands at that. Kellen and I had been in a relationship, found out I was Dire Wolf, thought we were mates, rejected each other, found my mate, and was now I would probably be hunted for one insane reason or another.

I’m pretty sure I have been scared or intimidated, or something along those lines, but the truth is… I wasn’t. I had lost control of my life; even my continuing education was thrown off track and abandoned.

So, I gave into fate.

I had no idea what was going to happen. There was no way Zane and I could be apart for long, that I was sure of, but I didn’t want to leave Kellen and Mike either. However, if it was me the rogues were after, would they attack the Golden Circle pack if I went there? I didn’t want to be the cause of war and death. I shuddered at the idea, but there was no way I would go down without a fight. I would challenge anyone who dared to threaten my life or the ones I loved.

Another thing I couldn’t wrap my mind around, was how well Kellen was dealing with me being mated, never mind who it was too. It seemed the dream scenario had clarified so much for us. It weirdly put a lot of things into perspective and the dynamics of our relationship managed to change yet again. Whether it is for the better or not, remains to be seen.

Beta Michael was out in the field investigating who ordered the attack with Hunji. While Tyron, his father and Damon had started delving into how they got past our security measures.

Shit was just unreal and dramatic. Not my cup of tea, so to speak.

So here we were, Tawny and I were sparring as I had her learning some defensive moves, and Zane along with Tyron and Mike were comparing their displays of power in the gym beside the field. Every now and then I would laugh because I could hear them bickering about who hit the hardest.

“What are you laughing at now?” Tawny asked, relaxing her arms and dropping her guard as I got distracted. I forgot that, along with the full moon shift, my senses had increased tenfold. My heightened sense of hearing, sight and touch allowed me to see things in a new light and the cool thing was, instead of just hearing everything, I could tune it, hone in on one particular scent or sound and pin point it. Most of the time I could tune it out, but at night it seemed harder for some reason.

I giggled, motioning with my hands to Tawny to put her guard backup.

“I can hear the boys, I’m pretty sure they will start whipping out their dicks and comparing any moment now.”

“Ugg, I hope not,” she groaned.

I lunged at her, going for a sweeping kick and bouncing back up and back handing her. She managed to dodge both attacks, and throw back a one-two combo, which I easily blocked. I was going easy on her.

“So why don’t you go in there and show them who really is the strongest?” she suggested with a sly smirk. I thought about it for a minute, then shook my head.

“Nahh you’re not done with training yet.” She let out another groan at my serious tone. “Seriously Tawny, you are fast, you need to use that to your advantage.” I thought for a moment, pondering. “Actually on second thoughts, yes, let’s take this inside.” I started walking off to the indoor gym, nodding my head for her to follow. Reluctantly, Tawny followed me, lazily dragging her feet.

“Can’t you just save me all the time? I don’t know why I need training.” she jokingly murmured.

We walked into the gym to find three sexy, sweaty guys. Of course, the guy with those icy eyes and piercing, with his jet-black hair that clung to his forehead from sweat was the sexiest. I trailed my eyes over his bare chest, and hardened pecks, my eyes trailing down, following the thin trail of dark hair that dipped past his tight and defined six pack, disappearing below the band of his shorts.

My mouth watered and I licked my lips. I only had to think about him to start feeling that overwhelming desire, but being in the same room as him put that lust in a whole new category. I seriously just wanted to fling myself at him and let him take me here and now, regardless of who saw.

Shit, that’s kinky. But seriously, I couldn’t get enough of this guy; the need to touch and feel him was overwhelmingly understated.

The difference between my pull for Kellen and my pull to Zane were so far between. I love Kellen with all my heart, but the mate bond with Zane is just much more intense.

Part of me felt guilty for being able to move on from Kel so fast, like our relationship meant nothing. I quickly dismissed that thought as fast as it had manifested. Kellen and I would always be something special, but it couldn’t compare to a fated mate bond. The intensity and need I had just being around Zane was unreal.

I knew I needed to go to his pack with him. I couldn’t not. I wouldn’t be able to handle being away from him. And maybe, just maybe, if I were to go back to the Golden Circle pack things would be somewhat normal. I would take the Luna position by my Alpha's side. We would have pups and run one of the strongest packs this realm has ever seen. We would be happy and have a normal life. That was all I wanted. A simple life, a simple life with Zane, but even that felt so out of reach right now.

I looked at Zane with all the love I had. At that moment, I knew all I wanted was to be by his side.

A low rumbling growl vibrated from Zane’s chest when his eyes met mine, heating my core up all over again, and sending tingles of erotic pleasure down my spine as he eye-fucked me from across the room.

I averted my gaze, blushing, sensing I was getting aroused and really didn’t want everyone else to smell it. Luckily it was later in the evening and it was just us five and no other pack members here.

“Come on, we're going to work on speed, and the best way to that is kickboxing.” I motioned to Tawny, walking over and grabbing some head gear for her. Trying to ignore my addiction to my mate.

“Where’s yours?” she asked, pouting her tiny pink lips, referring to the headgar.

“Lamia doesn’t need it, I doubt you will even land a punch,” I heard Mike chuckle. She shot him a glare before turning back to me raising an eyebrow. I just shrugged my shoulders.

The boys watched us spar for a while, encouraging Tawny as she whipped out combination after combination I had shown her, getting faster with each set. She was throwing punches left and right, only to meet a block by me, every time. Every now and then I would throw a kick or punch. She was getting tired and as we were going through this last set she threw a left and went to swipe with the same side leg, but it threw her off balance and she came hurtling towards me just as I was throwing a jab.

I heard a crunch as my fist connected with her ribs, followed by a piercing screech and hiss as she slammed backwards onto the mat clutching her side. Her face contorted in pain.

“Oh shit! I’m so sorry Taw!” I panicked, running over to help her up.

“Holy mother of Bastet! You fucking broke a rib!” she hissed. I felt like a piece of shit as I helped her up, her face twisted with a grimace of pain.

“Okay, that's enough of that for tonight. Sometimes Lamia forgets her own strength.” Mike smiled apologetically for me.

A few minutes later, we are sitting on the mats with the guys, Tyron checking on Tawny, obviously concerned. I was sure they had a thing for each other. I had to remember to ask her about it later, if she was still talking to me. I didn’t mean to connect the punch or hurt her. I sighed, saddened that I had hurt one of my friends. I was sitting next to Zane, his arm protectively wrapped around my waist.

“Ty, I’m ok. We heal just as fast as wolves, just in a different way.” She always spoke softly to Tyron.

We all looked at her curiously. How did they differ? She clicked her tongue before answering our questioning stares.

“Well you guys use your wolves to heal, were-cats use our felines, but we purr and the vibrations are soothing and healing, sending like, magnetic waves through our bones that help us heal better.”

Note to self, read up on were-cats.

The conversation had to come back around to me and my wolf again. I groaned. I was really getting fed up of it. I have always been a freak and now I would never not be a freak.

Mike and Zane were discussing looking up more information on prophecies that might be linked to me and my wolf genes. I rolled my eyes, “Mike, how many times have we all investigated this? The King, you, me, Kellen? Everyone has tried finding something out and after eighteen years of searching for a prophecy that doesn’t exist, I doubt we will find one now!” I was irritated. This idea had been researched to death, I was truly over the whole ‘fated prophecy’ act. I knew who my wolf was and who her spirit was. We had already established that. Between our parents and Hunji we had read every single prophecy about wolves and mine and Kellen’s birthmark known in our kingdom.

“It can’t hurt to look again, there must be something fucking out there.” Zane grunted.

“There’s not.” I rolled my eyes “If there was, it would have been found by now!” tenseness laced my words as I huffed them out.

The room was silent for a moment. “Actually…” Tawny drew out her words, catching all our attention “What if it’s not a wolf prophecy?”

A collective 'huh?’ was sounded around the room as we all looked at her.

“Here me out.” She shifted so she could see us all, “My mom used to tell me a story, a fairy tale of sorts that her dad, King Phanton, used to tell her as a child. Seriously, just hear me out first before y’all laugh at me.

Once upon a kingdom,

A long time ago remembered as Riocht,

There lived a King who ruled over all the kingdoms,

He fell in love with a beautiful princess and ruled the land with a stern

But fair hand, they lived happily for a long time.

But the king’s brother was jealous of his power,

And wanted it for himself.

So he hatched a plan to take over and began a war on the King.

The brother betrayed the king and poisoned him

Before stabbing him in the heart with a silver knife.

The Queen was a child of the gods,

Unbeknownst to the evil brother the queen was with child,

When he killed his brother savagely,

And with the help of her trusty maid she ran away and escaped the brother’s wrath.

Alas, the poor queen died giving birth to a beautiful princess,

Her maid was a witch and helped the queen to curse the throne using a blood bond.

‘No mortal or immortal shall sit upon the throne

Until one born of first blood by the moon goddess herself shall walk these lands,

A queen who will choose a King stronger than all, to rule the 6, a queen of Alpha’s.

Upon the queens death, the maid took the princess and hid her,

Raising the child as her own,

Never to be seen again

They say the Kingdom of Riocht is still waiting for their rightful queen to take her place upon the throne.

When her blood is spilt upon the throne,

the veil will be lifted and a new era will begin’

I’m not sure who started laughing first, but the low rumble of laughter was followed by two more as Mike, Zane and Tyron were thrown into fits. Tawny’s eyebrows creased as a frown began to form and a beautiful blush crept across her midnight skin.

She cast her eyes down and started twirling a strand of her orange locks around a finger.

“I’m just saying guys, no need to make fun, Lamia has a powerful wolf and genes. Maybe you guys are looking in the wrong place.” She shrugged.

“What do you mean looking in the wrong place?” Mike asked, the laughing now ceasing.

“I mean, you have been looking at werewolf prophecies. Maybe you should be looking at shifter legends or prophecies instead.”

She had a point.

“Yah but how does this story relate to Lamia? I don’t see it”. Tyron was the one to ask and, surprisingly, Zane was the one to answer,

“Because she carries the gene of the first born, Duh! Mike, didn’t you say Dire wolves are said to be the first shifters and her wolf spirit claimed to be a descendant of the moon goddess?”

“Yah, that’s right….” Mike's eyes narrowed and he hummed mulling over something “Tawny, you just got yourself a job,”

“Huh?” she asked, surprised.

Mike smirked “I am now tasking you with looking into shifter prophecies that might describe Lamia’s circumstances. Welcome to the team!”

I couldn’t help but laugh. I knew the last thing Tawny would want to do was a shit ton of research. I offered to help her before I coaxed everyone into heading to the dining hall for dinner. I was famished.
