The Delta's Daughter Chapter 159
MIKE
Neither Hunji nor I slept as we crossed the ocean, Tobias didn’t sleep either but that was due to him throwing up throughout the journey.
“Fuck, I am so happy to be on dry land again!” Tobias had grumbled once we had made it to the Sea Dogs Island. He did look a little green and pasty.
I chuckled at his complaining, it seemed there was something after all that could bring down the mighty Beta Bear. “I guess you can’t stomach as much as me, tell me again how tough you are big guy” I mocked him, as he still clutched his stomach and stumbled slightly as he got his bearings.
“Fuck you.” was all he replied.
Jonda’s brother, Alpha John, was waiting for us once the boat had docked and greeted us as soon as we stepped off the gangway. He had the same deep auburn red hair as Jonda’s, but his eyes were crystal blue with a hint of green. Like most Alphas, he was tall and built, not quite my height and not as bulky as me, but he was a pretty good-sized Alpha.
“Alpha John,” I greeted him with a nod “Thank you for not executing the criminal before we had a chance to question him and, of course, for your hospitality."
“The pleasure is all mine Royal Beta,” He was very formal and even bared his neck to me slightly as a sign of respect and recognition of my rank and title. “It is unfortunate that we are meeting under these circumstances, never the less I am loyal to the kingdom and hope to be of service to you and the Queen's men.” He said acknowledging Hunji and Tobias as well.
“Please come, I have prepared rooms for you in one of the Inns. I figured you would be hungry and tired.” He then looked at Tobias “And I assume one of you, don’t have sea legs” He chuckled at Tobias and I joined in when I also looked at poor Tobias, there was no way I was ever letting this one go.
“Thank you, Alpha…”
“Please call me John, Beta…”
“In that case please call me Mike, this is Hunji Queen Lamia’s 2nd in command and this poor fellow is Tobias, King Mathias’ 2nd in command. And yes I think it would be best if we rested for now and then question the man.” I agreed.
Alpha John and Jonda took us to a quaint little Inn not too far from the docks, although he took us by car it was only a ten-minute walk from where they were holding the man in question, whose name, I came to learn was Darrius.
“Dinner will be served downstairs at seven,” Jonda told me when they left us to our rooms.
“Will you be joining us” I asked with a hopeful smile.
“Would you like me to join you, Beta Mike” Jonda countered, pursing her lips and arching a brow.
Moons she was feisty and drop-dead gorgeous. “Yes.” I told her straight, “I would be offended if you didn’t.” I finished giving her a wink.
“In that case see you boys downstairs at seven.” Giving me a sly smile over her shoulder as walked away. I of course kept my eye on her perfectly round ass as she retreated.
“Are you going to tap that” Tobias said coming up behind me and whispering in my ear.
I scowled, not liking the way he referred to Jonda. “Hands off Tobias!” I warned with a low growl.
“What” He feigned innocent, “I was just asking, she is all your's man, but in the event that you don’t want it; I wouldn’t say no, Just saying, man.”
At seven o’clock I made my way downstairs of the Inn, taking my time to look at the various photos that hung on the wall. Most of them were old black and white historical photos of the various buildings that were on the Island, some of the docks and some had people in them.
I double glanced at one, seeing a familiar face. King Alexander, Kellen’s father. He was standing with what, I assumed at one point was the Alpha, a heavily pregnant woman and a little boy who was no older than five.
I stood there for a moment taking in the photo and the happy smiles on everyone's faces. I noticed how the pregnant woman looked a lot like Jonda and was probably around the same age as her when this photo was taken. I made a mental note to ask about this picture. Then I looked at the smiling eyes of the late King, and whispered a promise to him “I will find him, Uncle, I promise.” The feeling of failure creeping back in.
I found the will to move a few seconds later and walked into the dining room where I found Jonda already seated with Tobias and Hunji. The smile on her face was like a beacon of light, warm and welcoming and I couldn’t help but be drawn to her. As soon as my eyes landed on her the sorrow I had been feeling just minutes ago as I looked at the photo of Kellen’s father, dissipated immediately as soon as I cast my eyes upon her.
“Hi,” I said greeting everyone with a wide smile, mostly aimed at Jonda, and took a seat and grabbed the small one-sided menu.
Hunji chuckled “I don’t think you are going to like anything on that menu,” He said shoving some kind of fried seafood into his mouth as he watched my face for a reaction. A playful smirk on his face as he chewed.
I grumbled as I cast my eyes over the menu. No red meat whatsoever. I was going to die from lack of protein before we ever found Kellen at this rate.
“You don’t like seafood” Jonda asked with a concerned look.
“If it’s not red meat, he is scared of it,” Laughed Tobias, obviously amused at my discomfort of eating something that didn’t have four legs and didn’t come from the land.
“Oh!” Jonda sat up surprised and waved her hand at an older lady to come over, “Willa, would you please make an exception and prepare the Royal Beta a steak, he is not a fan of seafood.” She chuckled with the last words, the older lady, Willa, gave me a disappointed scowl and shook her head, like I had offended her.
“Of course Jonda, anything you request.” Her scowl quickly disappeared when she addressed Jonda.
