The Delta's Daughter Chapter 185
Day 17 of The Games
KELLEN
“Kellen Moon” A voice in the void whispered. The moon goddess was calling me home. “Kellen Moon” the soft feminine voice called my name. It was so calming, so comforting that I began to search for it in the darkness.
A faint glow began to emerge from the depths of the surrounding blackness. It was warm and it pulled me in. So I went to it, letting the slowly brightening light pull me in. I felt content and happy as my bones began to warm the closer we got to the ever-growing glow of luminosity.
“Kellen,” The voice was a little louder and as the darkness around me faded and turned to a cozy and agreeable brightness, I squinted my eyes, suddenly finding myself in a well-lit room.
I looked around, finding my surroundings familiar, as I cast my vision over the rows upon rows of books. “Kellen!” This time the voice was abrupt and I swung around expecting the person to be right behind me. Instead, my gaze landed on a pair of high-back leather chairs, seated in front of a roaring fireplace, the flames licking out like they were reaching for me.
“Come closer” That was when I noticed a figure had been seated in one of the chairs. A hand reached out to the table in between the two seats, picking up a dainty tea cup. I began to move my feet, approaching the figure whose back was to me. Not because she said so but because I already knew who she was.
I was in the library, the same one I had seen in mine and Lamia’s dreams. The same one Ashe had visited Lamia in. I was not scared, but I was confused about why she was here and I was not meeting with the moon goddess who would walk me to the gates of the afterlife. I felt something warm and wet tickle my hand and looked down to find Conri, my wolf, nudging me with his nose. His silver fur glistened from the glow of the fire that danced across his moon-kissed fur.
I took a seat in the available chair, the leather warm against my bare back, and took my first look at Ashe, mesmerized by her long white, almost silver hair that hung past her waist, her skin was as dark as the night sky and her eyes were violet, like those of Finnegan’s. She was beautiful despite her age and I couldn’t pull my stare from her.
“You are flattering me, young King.” She smiled,
“Why am I here” I asked when she said nothing else.
“Before I let you have your second gift, I must ask if you are willing to accept your third.” She said setting down the teacup, her ethereal eyes not averting from mine.
“I thought I was dead, I felt my heart stop.” Still puzzled as to why I was here and not walking in the afterlife.
“Kellen,” she smiled again, this time with pity. “Tandie gave you the gift of life; you were never going to die, not truly, or at least that will depend on the end of this conversation. Although, you did surprise me; by accepting your death so easily. But this had to happen in order for you to receive your third gift.”
“What is the third gift” I put my hand out and Conri nuzzled up to me, giving me calming vibes, I didn’t like how this conversation was going right now, never mind at the end of it. Ashe was confusing and spoke in riddles.
Instead of answering my questions, she asked me another one “Are you angry with the moon goddess, Kellen”
I thought about it, was I angry with her If I had to be truly honest, then yes I was. First she gave me Lamia and then took her away, throwing salt on the wound and mating her to Zane. I scowled because it was the moon goddess who took Zane from Lamia and her unborn child, then gave her a mate she hated at first, deepening that wound and overlooking me for a second time when it was plain as day how much I loved her.
Loved. I do love Lamia still, but finding Tala had shifted that love, my heart now belonged to someone else. Or at least it did until the moon goddess took her away too. Did I hate the moon goddess
“Despise would be a better word,” I said after mulling over my thoughts and not finding a trace of the emotion of hate when I thought of the goddess. Despise yes, hate, no.
“What if I told you, you were always meant to be mated to Lamia” Ashe pursed her lips knowingly, her violet eyes staring into mine.
“But we share a bloodline, you told this to Lamia.” I frowned at her, not understanding what she was getting at. All these mind games were only working up the tension in my body. “You told her we were never meant to be mated.”
“That’s not quite true,” she sighed and leaned forward resting her elbow on the arm of the chair and her chin in her hand. “You may share a bloodline, but your wolves were always meant to mated.” She pulled her lips in a tight smile that didn’t reach her eyes “She was never meant to be mated to Zane, however, you were a possibility. Unfortunately, the gods like to play games and they have played enough games with my children.” She waved her hand in the air dismissively when she spoke of the gods.
“Are you not a god”
“No.” She scoffed, “I would be considered a demi-god, but that’s beside the point, enough about me. Let’s talk about you.” She got up and walked over to the fireplace, throwing another log on there, the heat from flames increasing and drawing out beads of sweat on my forehead. She couldn’t possibly be cold.
Ashe stood there and rubbed her hands together, and I watched her intently, waiting for further explanation. “The Morrigan sisters, Nandie, Tandie, and Andie, who you have yet to meet, are three sisters born to a goddess, a goddess who could not only transform but predict the future and give life to those close to death. Each sister has their own special… power, or gift if you prefer. Nandie gave you the gift of strength, she is also an oracle like me. Tandie gave you the gift of life, she can heal anything or anyone, and Andie… She is a shifter, like you but can take the form of any animal. She will offer you the gift of fate.”
Ashe paused. Waiting to see my reaction but I gave none.
“You have Morrigan blood coursing through veins Kellen. That is why you were chosen to be the most powerful Knight. Morrigan and Guardian blood are what makes your family royals. It’s what makes you so powerful.”
“If I was so powerful, how did I end up as a slave a million miles away from home” I scoffed at her and the thought of her thinking I was so powerful. I had died, it didn’t seem very powerful to me.
“How else would you meet your mate” She deadpanned sarcastically, giving me a look as if I should have realized this. “Your mate is a red wolf, she comes from the first generation of Morrigans, bringing the bloodline back to its purest form can only create a generation of werewolves unseen and uncontested.”
Does, she mean our children, if Tala and I were to have pups
“Yes!” She threw her hands up in the air. “Your third gift will be to accept fate, should you refuse I will release you to the moon goddess, should you accept I will return you to your realm to fight for your mate.”
“What do mean fight for my mate” I stood up suddenly defensive.
“Your mate needs you and without you, she will be in trouble.” Ashe came and sat back down in the chair “You may be a Knight of the Queen, but that is not your soul purpose. Accept fate's gift and in many moons, you will be called upon to defend your realm. It is what the Queen carries you must protect, for the gods have already chosen. An I am afraid I cannot intervene.”
