The Delta's Daughter Chapter 12
MIKE
‘Fuck! That was a blow to my ego’ My thoughts were stuck on Kellen’s revelation of Lamia having a mark, a mark of the fucking crown of all things! I knew now I would most certainly not be her mate, nor would I pursue her in any way shape or form.
Why hadn’t I noticed the birthmark before? Had she covered it up? I mean I didn’t expect her to say, Oh look, here it is! But I would have at least thought I would come to know about it. Either she was destined to Kel or she was born to be a Queen in her own right.
I now had a better understanding of why her and her wolf were so powerful, and why she got that wolf. I also have a better idea of why our parents, especially the King, had her live with them, train with them and then send her to this school with us. So much makes sense now. Even though I was feeling a little disappointed by the fact that she would never be mine, I smiled to myself.
Fucking Lamia. I told her she was my Queen. I guess I wasn’t lying. No matter what, I knew I would always hold a deep admiration and love for her.
I finished changing from sweats to a pair of blue jeans and a fitted tee. I had really filled out this past week and my physic was becoming more toned and bulky. I didn’t look like a teenager anymore. I was becoming a man and starting to physically fill out the Beta roll. Once I hit 18 tomorrow, I would start growing stronger and filling out more, not that I was skinny or lacked muscle, but once a wolf hit 18 they would start coming into their roll both mentally and physically and I could already see the changes.
I actually couldn’t wait to go home and I was happy, to say the least, that we were getting to go back a little earlier than we thought. I loved being at the Academy, but I missed my family. I tried to speak with my mom at least once a week, but sometimes life got in the way, on both ends. Either I was busy training or doing something non productive or my Mother was busy helping organize events at the Palace. As the Royal Betas wife it was her duty to help the Queen with event planning and also help The Delta’s wife, Aunt Vivian, with school organization or pup daycare. Everyone had a role to play and a duty to perform.
I had barely spoken to any of our friends from high school before we came here, and when we came back after summer we would all be attending college in the pack city. Our parents wanted to make sure we were educated not just to fight and run a pack business, but also the kingdom and the many businesses the Royal Alpha owned. I was ready for it; at least I hoped I was.
Kellen is meant to take over as Alpha of the Royal pack at 18, or when his father decides to hand him the role, nothing was set in stone, then as tradition holds, if he was ready and the King saw fit, he would be crowned the King at twenty-one. Then it wouldn’t just be our pack he had to handle, but also the 9 plus packs who pledged allegiance to us as well, the council who acted more like a jury to uphold the law of the werewolf kingdom.
Lamia had requested us to meet her downstairs in the common room. I wasn’t sure why, but knowing her, she had something planned.
“Ready?” Kellen was just walking out of his room as I came out of mine. He looked excited but also a hint of nervousness reflected in his eyes. I noticed he was wearing a deep blue button-up shirt with his grey jeans. Lamia’s favorite color on him.
I had seen the way he looked at her these past few weeks, month. Ever since they accidentally poisoned her during her torture prevention, Kellen hasn’t let her be; he never left her side and almost killed the doctors and staff here. Luckily, she is one tough She-wolf and came out of it on top. One would say a remarkable recovery. I was still surprised we had managed to keep the severity of it from our families. I still wasn’t sure why we had.
Personally, I thought they should have all had their heads ripped off but the nurse who made the ‘mistake’ had been punished and was sitting in a cell rotting for her stupidity. She would probably never see the light of day again. It wasn’t a simple case of ‘I overdosed a student’, NO! She almost killed Lamia, and even if Lamia is not of royal blood, as far as Kellen and I were concerned, she was family. The stupid bitch should have been executed!
I nodded my head at Kellen and followed him out the door into the dorm corridor. I wasn’t stupid. I had watched Kellen’s feelings for Lamia grow. Change, morph into something more, something even more unbreakable. Although it hurt a little to think she didn’t want me, I wasn’t sure if that hurt was because of my ego or a feeling that was a little deeper than lust and want. I knew now, after discovering she had an identical birth mark to Kellen, that I indeed had no chance. And I think I’m OK with that. That just means somewhere out there, I had a mate who I would love and cherish and she would love me back.
I was following Kellen, silently lost in my own thoughts, when we rounded the corner into the first floor rec room, I hadn’t even noticed the thud of the music that was coming from outside the back doors that led to the patio and academy gardens, until I realized Lamia, Kira, Travis, Greg and Sam were standing there.
I let my gaze travel over Lamia as she made her way to me in a blue strappy dress that I could only describe as delectable. Fitting to her body like a second skin and coming down mid thigh, her hair loose in a pile of waves that flowed down her back and shoulders.
She wrapped her arms around me, kissing me on the cheek. “Happy Birthday.” She whispered in my ear, causing shivers down my spine.
Her presence and touch would always create a reaction in me. That I was sure of. No sooner had she kissed me, Kellen had pulled her to his side, wrapping his arms around her waist, telling her how beautiful she looked.
She wiggled out of Kellen’s grasp and grabbed my hand, pulling me towards the back patio. A huge grin on her face and amusement in her eyes she ushered me to the door. “Come, come,” she giggled.
As the doors opened and we stepped outside, the music got louder and I could see the gardens were decorated with multi-colored lights, strung up on bushes, trees and banisters. There was a small stage with a DJ and a huge Happy birthday banner hanging over it, either side of the stage were large speakers that were blasting out some pop music. In the middle was a dancing area that was surrounded by tables and the other side of that was a table with food and coolers with drinks in them. On a smaller table that held some punch I noticed there were a few bottles of alcohol. Alcohol! Wait what?
“You guys did all this for me?” tears, actual tears were starting to burn my eyes and I had to gulp them back. I was in awe that my friends would go to all this trouble for me. I was more astonished to see that there was alcohol here.
How the heck did they pull that off? I honestly thought I would be spending the night and my birthday sitting on the couch in our suite, playing games with the guys, being bored.
“Happy Birthday Pike!” Wilson had come up to me with a couple of other staff members and Hunji, clapping me on the back. “We are to chaperone, but to not get in the way of the festivities of you pups.” He grinned and handed me a beer. Holy shit, I looked at Lamia and then Kellen with wide eyes.
“Wilson is pretty cool; he helped us get things for your party. Now can we please go dance!” groaning Kira started to drag Travis to the dance floor.
After receiving many happy birthdays from the staff, they began to filter out, not before Wilson turned a glaring eye onto Lamia and Kellen pointing his finger at both of them. “Behave, we will be watching, but will not interfere at your request.” With a wink from him, a nod from Kellen and a salute from Lamia he joined the rest inside.
Kellen whispered something into Lamia’s ear, before he walked off over to the stage and climbed up, taking a place next to the DJ. The music lowered and Kellen’s voice came across the speakers. Everyone stopped and turned their attention to him. I would say the majority of the students attending were here, all ready to have some fun since we had been on lock down for the past week.
Kellen cleared his throat, “If I could have everyone's attention please!” He waited until the small crowd had simmered and were all looking at him. “We are very fortunate that the Academy staff has allowed us to celebrate a special some one this evening. Before I say anything else, I would like to thank Lamia and Kira for putting this party together and doing an absolute fantastic job!” There were a few whoops and whistles. Smiling like a huge dork and holding his arm towards me he called me up on stage “At midnight my best friend, my brother, my Beta Mike Pike, turns 18. Happy birthday bro! May the goddess smile upon you and grant you a worthy mate and a prosperous future. Come up and say a few words!”
There was more whooping and cheering as I made my way to the stage. Once up there, my best friend embraced me and handed me the mic.
I took a moment to compose myself, taking a deep breath; I was a little overwhelmed to be honest. I didn’t think my friends would throw me a party, or even that they could, but somehow they pulled out all the stops to make sure it was as special as they could make it.
“Wow, I gotta say fellow cadets, this was definitely a surprise! And I am one lucky wolf to have the friends that I do.” I looked at Lamia and Kellen, who now had her wrapped in his arms again, both smiling up at me.
I was happy for them; they looked good together, as they always did. “Thank you all for coming. I know this is meant to be my birthday party, but I think we all need this party, so enjoy, be merry, and don’t do anything I wouldn’t! Thank you all!” That last line earned me a cheer as most people knew I was the party boy.
I handed the mic back to the DJ who I recognized as one of the students here. And made my way off the stage, the music turned up and people kept coming up wishing me a happy birthday, until I was finally able to make it back to where my friends were standing.
It’s crazy to think how many of us here at the Academy actually get along. With so many Alphas and strong personalities in one place, you would think there would be more fights and testosterone flying around.
As we made our way over to the food and beverages, a dark-skinned petite she-wolf with amber eyes saddled up next to me, “Hey don’t forget to dance with me later Mike” she purred, brushing herself against my body, giving me a pouty look,
“With a smirk, I replied “sure thing doll, I’ll come find you after I’m done talking.”
Wiggling that ass as she walked to a group of girls, she looked over her shoulder at me with a seductive wink, “Make sure you do big guy.”
“Damn bro! You’re going to have the pick of the crop tonight! You know I can be your wing man tonight. I don’t mind taking what you don’t want!” We laughed at Sam’s innocent but honest statement, the poor dude was desperate.
We all found our way to a table and sat down. Kellen had pulled Lamia into his lap and Travis was holding onto Kira’s thigh under the table.
Kira was the first to speak as we sat eating. “We have presents for you too, open them now!” excitedly she handed me a bag clapping her hands in anticipation. Inside was a maroon polo shirt, a designer brand no doubt.
I opened the envelope Kellen had handed me. Inside were four tickets to see Carnage.
I laughed, thanking him, because of course I was going to invite them both and it was one of Lamia’s favorite bands and there was no way I could get out of it! Next was Lamia’s gift. She handed me a small square box wrapped in silver paper. I carefully opened it, it was beautiful, and I felt the tears brimming in my eyes again. I felt the love she had for me and the friendship she cherished.
“I hope you like it” shyly she asked. “I got it a while ago when we were at the mall last and picked the charms out myself.”
I pulled out a thick braided leather bracelet, for a man, it had three metal charms hanging from it, three wolf heads to be exact. black, silver and dark brown. Representing the three of us, it was perfect. A lump formed in my throat. She then handed me another bag, smiling “This is from me and Kel.”
I pulled out a photo frame, it had a few photos meshed together, one from when we were 5 on my birthday with cake smeared across the three of our faces, one from when we were 10, again my birthday party when we went to the amusement park, another from my 15th birthday party, then two more, one depicting our first day here and one Lamia managed to snag from not too long ago. Each picture held the three of us in it, happy days, days we will forever remember, a friendship bound by no time and no barriers.
I felt a tear slip from my eye, I stood up and pulled Lamia from Kellen’s lap and embraced her, holding her as close and as tight as I possibly could. I whispered a thank you to her, kissing her on the cheek. “Always and forever,” she sighed while squeezing me tight before letting me go.
Wiping my tear, I let her go, so no one could see the pathetic girly emotion. I cleared my throat so my voice wouldn’t crack “You guys are the best friends I could ever ask for. And, wow! You really out did yourselves. Anyway, enough of this emotional shit, let's party! I see a couple of ladies that could use my attention on the dance floor.”
