The Delta's Daughter Chapter 73
Mathias
I kept catching a whiff of the warm brown sugar scent on my way to the dungeons, again. To deal with more fucking wolves. I would be happy if I never saw another fucking were-wolf again, for the rest of my life after tonight.
The closer I got to the dungeons, the stronger the scent became, making my mouth water. Arcas was pacing in my head. I was glad for his presence, after being absent for so long, but his incessant pacing and growling was agitating the shit out of me. I was trying to remain somewhat calm and he wasn’t making it easy. Again, I was elated by his presence, but his anxious feeling was causing my irritation, making my nerves grate and I could feel the buildup of something explosive, like I was going to combust any moment.
I unlocked the door to the dungeons, greeting the guards with a grunt. As soon as the door opened, I was blasted with the most intoxicating scent, that brown sugar I had been smelling before, a hundred times stronger, mixed with vanilla. My cock twitched, instantly alert and stood to attention as the sweet scent enveloped all our senses. Arcas’ growl rumbled through my chest the further we went down the corridor of cells.
I glanced into the cell of the Delta as I passed by. He was sitting there with a shit-eating grin on his face. What was he so happy about? I scowled, wanting to wipe the grin off his face. “One week until the full moon and your end, Wolf.” I taunted.
A deep reverberating growl echoed off the walls, taking me by surprise. The Delta chuckled. The growl, coming from the other end of the dungeon.
Tobias and Xander came walking quickly towards me, their surprise and a little fear was apparent in their eyes as they shook their heads at me.
“Dude, did you feel that? That was her.” Tobias said, looking around like he expected someone to ambush us from the shadows.
This night just kept getting worse.
I followed them to the end of the corridor where they had the she-wolf chained up, the heady aroma growing stronger. No wonder they thought she was their mate. Her scent was strong and powerful. Who was this little she-wolf whose growl vibrated through the dungeon walls? Who had my brother Xander and Tobias’ panties in a twist?
I paused outside her cell door. My heart was racing, beating so hard I was sure it was going to pound its way out of my chest. Her blond, black-streaked hair, or was it black, streaked with blond, head was down. I swept my eyes over her, taking in her outfit, the black pants and vest that molded to her body like a second skin, her black combat boots giving the female an air of danger.
When she lifted her head to finally meet my eyes, I was sure I mirrored the same shock that flashed across her features.
The emerald green eyes I had seen in my dreams for the past month, the very ones I had pleasured myself to, stared right back at me. Her wolf flashed in her eyes, as they gave off a quick glow. My breath quickened and my chest heaved. She was beautiful.
‘MATE’ Arcas claimed. No. She is a wolf.
I was having an eternal fight with Arcas, he wanted to mate and claim her right here. Right now.
“MATE” The word rumbled from my chest in a low growl.
I watched as her perfect pink plump lips parted into an ‘O’ and then the corner turned up into a sneer, as the look of surprise vanished and was replaced with disgust.
Was she disgusted by me? Me the King of the bears, Alpha of all Alphas, she, this little wolf had the audacity to snub me? I clenched my fists and my nostrils flared. How dare she! She should be honored to be given me as a mate.
I reined my growing fury in. If she didn’t want me, then so be it. If I disgusted her that much, then she would meet the same fate as the last mate the goddess had given me. There would be no chances for this Little Wolf.
‘She is mate, she needs us’. Arcas pleaded with a sigh. ‘She is not like Anna’
“I have come here for one thing only” Her voice was strong but harmonious, like an angel. I had to close my eyes and take a deep breath, trying to shake the effects this goddess of a woman was having on me. “I have come for the Delta. Release him and we will leave. You will never hear from us again.”
“Leave?” I smirked and got in her face “Oh no little wolf, you will never leave here. Your delta will be executed on the next full moon. So no, there is no leaving for you.” I sneered.
Her growl was deep and long, and her canines extended. She stood up straight and looked me dead in the eye. For a minute, I almost got lost in them. Almost.
“Who are you? And why are you and your delta here?” I demanded an answer from her.
“I am Lamia Langley, Daughter of the royal Delta, Alpha to the kingdom of MacTire and I DEMAND you release my father or…” My hand shot out and coiled around her throat, gripping her tightly.
“You will demand NOTHING from me little wolf!” I spat. “I am the King of Alphas and your Delta committed a crime and he will pay for it!”
“You are a cowardly king and an absent one at that!” I released my hold on her and took a step back. The little wolf's eyes travelled down my body and then back up, the disgust now mixed with a flare of anger. If I had hurt her, she didn’t show it and her voice never wavered or broke.
“In that case then, I, Alpha Lamia Langley, challenge you, King of the were-bears, for the deltas life.” Her glowing emeralds hardened, her glare penetrating and burning into my soul.
I shook with outrage at the challenge; half wanting to laugh that a little wolf like her would dare challenge me and half wanting to fuck her into submission. God’s just that thought had my cock straining harder. The thought of her beneath me.
Stop! I told myself. A wave of sadness rolled through me, it was Arcas' feeling, not mine. Her challenge had him retreating. I stepped back up to her, bending so my nose could brush into the crook of her neck, my voice low and husky, I asked: “Does your wolf not recognize me as her mate? She would challenge her mate? Did she call out for me?”
I felt her tense and then her body relaxed and leaned towards me, the bond working its magic. I felt her warm breath tickle my ear. “Oh she does, we know exactly who you are, what you are to us. You are bear and we will never accept a bear for a mate.” She breathed in my scent, and then pulled herself back from me. “Release my father and I will rescind the challenge.”
“NO” My fist hit the wall with so much force, the concrete crumbled and a large hole was left right beside her head. She looked un-phased, unimpressed.
I stormed from the cell, calling for the door to be locked, and made my way out of the dungeon. Tobias and Xander hot my heals.
I reached outside into the cold night air, snow fell fast, and by morning a thick blanket of powder would have covered the territory. I bent over, bracing my hands on my knees and began gulping the fresh air while heaving.
“What the fuck was that?” Tobias asked. His voice strained and full of curiosity. I glanced at him; he was running his hands through his hair, shifting from one foot to another, like a crazed man.
“No shit brother, how can all three of us be mated to one little she-wolf?” Xander stood with his hands on his hips looking just as perplexed as I felt.
“You dumb shit! Did your spirit animals call out to her?” I asked while still trying to take air into my lungs. I felt like I was having a panic attack. “Because Arcas did.”
“Well no, but her scent…”
“What did you smell?” I cut off Xander.
“Vanilla. We both smelled vanilla.” Tobias supplied.
“She smells of brown sugar and vanilla, and her wolf recognized me as her mate. She refused to call out though.” My words sounded defeated, I felt rejected and so did Arcas. “You are attracted to her scent because she is an Alpha, a strong one at that.”
“I need a fucking drink.” I said and stood up, walking back in the direction of the Clan mansion.
It was time to have a conversation with the king of the wolves.

When those footsteps came closer and his scent became overbearingly stronger, I put my head down and tried to still my body that was shaking with want.
‘ Mate’ Inanna whispered as my head lifted and I was met with striking steel-grey eyes. I felt my wolf push to the forefront and show herself.
At the same time, his steely grey eyes flashed brilliant silver. I stifled the gasp that threatened to escape my lips, forming an ‘O’ instead. He was a bear shifter, and my lips curled up in disgust.
‘He is mate’ Inanna’s voice echoed within.
‘He is a bear shifter, have you forgotten already how we were violated by his kind, what they did to us?’ I snapped back at her. She said nothing.
I regarded the giant of a man in front of me, his frame filling the whole cell, and his scent smothering me. He was tall, so very tall and built perfectly. He was the walking definition of a god. Jet black hair, kept short and a few days old scruff that outlined his perfect hard and chiseled square jaw, his nose strong and molded to his face with perfection. His silver eyes glared at me beneath long dark lashes.
If only he had been anything but a bear shifter.
I heard my wolf whimper when his hand fisted around my throat. She didn’t like our mate’s aggression towards us, even though it was me who had pushed his buttons.
“You will demand NOTHING from me little wolf!” he spat. “I am the King of Alphas and your Delta committed a crime and he will pay for it!” He didn’t like the challenging tone in my voice.
I looked into his eyes, oh those beautiful eyes I had been dreaming about for months now. And now I knew who they belonged to, I couldn’t be any more disappointed. I called him a coward and absent king, trying to get more of a rise out of him. If he thought for one moment I would submit to him, he was dead wrong!
“In that case then, I, Alpha Lamia Langley, challenge you, King of the were-bears, for the deltas life.” I would have my dad freed by any way possible, and his refusal sent my anger into overdrive and fueled the foolish challenge.
“Does your wolf call out for me?” he whispered, so close I felt his warm breath fan against my neck.
Keep it together Lam’s, I chided myself.
“Oh she does, we know exactly who you are, what you are to us. You are bear and we will never accept a bear for a mate.” I took a huge gulp of his scent, tasting it on my tongue. I wanted him and my body was ready to betray me any minute now. My arousal was sure to burst through the damn and he would scent how my body craved his. “Release my father and I will rescind the challenge.” I said breathily.
His actions were so fast, and his fist hit the wall with so much power, leaving a crater in the concrete right next to my head. I would have cringed if I hadn’t been so stunned. He turned and left the cell. I could hear his heavy footfalls fading the further he went, until I heard the main door open and close. Leaving his lingering scent to torture me.
Ashe, is this who you meant, the one that needed me? Why did it have to be a bear shifter? I didn’t want him, I don’t want him. On the full moon I will reject him. If I get to live that long. I thought sadly.
Ashe's words were playing on my mind, of how I would be fated another mate. I groaned out, why couldn’t shit just be simple, why did the gods have to make a shit show of everything?
A lone tear trailed down my cheek, and I felt like every emotional wound was reopening. Aggressively, I wiped the tear from my face. This time was different, I reminded myself. I was here with a purpose, of my own free will. Not because someone had kidnapped me.
Yet the hopeless and empty feelings were reopening and my guilt was finding new life.
I looked at my shackled wrists, I was done having these on. I had played nice-ish. I pulled the shackle on my left hand tightly against my wrist, until I felt it give and snap under the pressure, and then did the same to my right, again the silver cuff snapping with ease under my strength.
I rubbed my wrists and sat on the provided cot, laying myself down and crossing my arms under my head as a make-shift pillow and stared at the ceiling, trying to come up with a game plan and plan my next move to get my father and myself out of here.
