Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 113: We Have Each Other's Back
*Rose*
I can’t reach my snack, and I don’t know what to do about it.
About ten minutes ago, Kelly brought some sliced pickles and peanut butter into my room and set them on the nightstand.
The only problem is, I was reading at the moment, and I didn’t reach for them right away.
Now, she’s gone out into the hallway to speak to Shelby, and my arms must have shrunk because they don’t quite reach….
And… scooting isn’t really an option at the moment. I’ve tried reaching as far as I can without moving my bottom, and I nearly rolled onto my side. Visions of my large pregnant self rolling onto the floor, maybe rolling out the window, down the roof of the floor below me, out into the garden, and on, and on, forever come to mind, and I don’t think that’s a good plan, so I sit still for now, willing Kelly to come back and hand me my snack.
I could use the mind-link, but that would make me seem like a big baby.
That word brings my hand to my abdomen, and I find myself rubbing my little fighting champions. They are all very kicky today. I imagine what it will be like when they are on the outside. Will they just run up to one another and kick each other for no reason?
Sadness washes over me as I realize I may never know….
As much as the Alphas are fighting for me to be able to stay with my babies, there are no guarantees. I still may have to let them go.
I can’t imagine doing that, not when I feel like I know them already.
A soft knock on my door draws my attention and gets me excited. My mouth begins to water. Even when Reece sticks his head in, I’m not longing for him in a way that I normally would have before all of these babies invaded my body. I’m just glad he’s more mobile than I am.
He can get my pickles and peanut butter for me!
“Hey, darlin’,” he calls softly from the door. “Can I come in?”
“Of course, you can,” I say, forcing myself to stay centered on the fact that I am happy to see him. He sits down next to me and kisses me, and while I’m doing my best to focus on him, as soon as he releases my lips, I say, “Can you hand me that?” and point to my snack.
He was already leaning in for another kiss, so he freezes awkwardly, lips puckered, to open his eyes. His eyebrows raise. “Your pickles?”
I nod. “And the peanut butter. Please. I can’t reach it.”
He chuckles under his breath as he hands me the little tray it was brought in on. “Silly girl. Why didn’t you call for help? Kelly is standing out in the hallway talking to Shelby.”
“I know,” I say, already dipping a juicy slice of green pickle into the peanut butter. “I didn’t want to bother her.”
He still thinks this is funny. “Do you need anything else?”
My jug of ice water and my book are on the bed next to me. “I’m good. Thanks.”
He smiles back at me as I give him a mischievous grin, and then he snuggles up beside me, wrapping his arm around me and the babies. “How are you feeling?” he asks, his head on my shoulder.
Between bites, I tell him, “All right. Still a little stressed. But not as bad as before. Has anything important happened?”
The soft groan that comes out of his mouth answers my question before he even starts to speak. “Yeah,” he says. “So… King Gene is going into hiding for a while.”
I stop with a bit of pickle in the air, near my open mouth, and turn my head to look at him. “What? He is? Why?”
“Because we’ve finally convinced him that Luna Barbara and Alpha Kane are working together to kill him. He’s decided it would be better for him to go off somewhere and hide and let one of us Alphas be the temporary king until we can kill off Kane.”
My face scrunches up. “But… he invited Barbara here, didn’t he? Thinking she should be the next queen since Emily left?”
“Yeah, he did invite her, but apparently, Barbara really is working with Alpha Kane, and Barbara does want to be the next queen, either by hooking one of us or by overthrowing Gene, overpowering us, and bringing Kane in to be her king. I don’t know, Rose. Everyone is scheming at this point. We thought we had made up the rumor about Barbara and Kane working together, but Alpha Morris is certain it’s true.”
Again, I find myself pausing mid-bite. “Alpha Morris? That nasty, rail-thin man who tried to kill me?”
Reece's head rocks back and forth, and I can tell by the expression on his face, he didn’t agree with whoever decided to bring him back either.
“What is he doing here?” I can’t help but shout.
“Tristan thought it would be a good idea. We all told him it wasn’t, but he said that the man owes him one, so he brought him in. Now, the rest of us are dealing with it.”
I hold his gaze for a few seconds, not sure what to say to that. I do trust Tristan, but at the same time, I’m not sure this is the best idea the man has ever had. “Perhaps Tristan’s ego has gotten the best of him,” I murmur.
“Well, yeah, maybe so. And now that he’s temporary king….” Reece shakes his head, his voice fading away.
“Tristan is the temporary king?” I ask. He acknowledges me with a nod. “How did that happen? I always felt like King Gene favored Mark or you over him.”
“Emily suggested it, and King Gene just went with it. I’m sure Emily just thinks he’s the most easily manipulated.”
She probably thinks she can act all sexy and get him to do her bidding. Thinking of her trying to seduce one of my men makes my appetite fade. I shove the last bite of pickle I already peanut buttered into my mouth and hand the tray to Reece, who sets it back on the table. Once I’m finished chewing, I ask, “Are you okay with that?”
He nods. “It’ll be all right. Though, I did hear him singing, ‘If I Were King of the Forest,’ a little while ago when I walked past his room.
I almost laugh, imagining Tristan dressed up like the lion from The Wizard of Oz.
“Don’t worry, darlin’,” Reece says, leaning over and kissing my temple. “We’ll take care of you. Don’t be afraid of stupid Alpha Morris or anyone else. I know firsthand that these guys won’t let you down when you need them, and neither will I.”
I smile at him, but I’m confused. “What do you mean?”
“I mean….” He grows quiet for a moment, his eyes glazing over slightly, like he’s remembering something he doesn’t want to. “When we were out there battling against Alpha Stephen, I was attacked by a much stronger wolf who was fresh to the battlefield. For a moment, I really thought I was going to die. But then, out of nowhere, the wolf went flying off of me, and Eli was there. He just seemed to appear out of thin air. He knocked that wolf off me, and then the big guy was dead. End of story.”
I can tell from Reece’s expression that he’s still shaken up about this, and I am so thankful that Eli was there to keep him safe. Some people might’ve stood back and watched Reece die, thinking it would make the situation easier for them, but none of my men would ever do that.
“I’m so thankful you both came back to me unharmed.” I drag my hand down his cheek, and he pulls me in for a kiss, a deep, passionate one that lets me know he’s thankful he’s still here, too.
I can’t help it when my body starts to meld to his. I don’t want to try to have sex when my belly is so big. It’s worked recently, but I’ve had too much stress. Mark and I kissed quite a bit while he was in here, but not much more than that. When Reece’s hand slips beneath my top and bra, and he finds a breast, I lean into him, moaning a bit.
But I have to tell him, “Can we… not go too far?”
He grins at me. “I’m here to do whatever you want, gorgeous woman.” I smile back at him, and he kisses my neck, his hands continuing to roam my body. He feels so good; I might be begging him for something else later, but for now, I’m content just to let him touch me, kiss me, and remind me that I am loved.
