Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 176: Odds Aren't Good
*Rose*
It’s clear to Diana and I that there’s a battle raging outside of the castle, and I want desperately to get out of here, to try to get to my Alphas, so that we can all be together again.
Well, most of us. I still don’t know if Eli has been found yet, but I feel deep inside of me that he hasn’t been. I can sense that the other three Alphas are nearby. It’s part of our bond, I believe. Perhaps it’s our children calling to their fathers. But Eli seems to be missing, and it hurts my heart.
We are back in the room that I woke up in a little while ago, standing near the window. “It’s good that we are in the castle instead of out there on the battlefield,” Diana begins. “Actually, it’s good that we are behind Alpha Kane’s troops and not in front of them.”
“Why do you say that?” I ask her, confused. I see a wall of wolves standing in front of the castle, but I can’t see what they are preparing for yet, and the glass is so thick, it’s hard to hear anything.
“Because… Alpha Kane plays dirty,” she says. “Do you see all those humans standing nearer to the castle?”
“Yes,” I tell her, my eyes honing in on them. “What about them?”
“Those are the snipers,” she says, shaking her head.
“Snipers?” I ask. A wave of fear washes over me, settling deep inside of my gut, twisting into a knot. “Do you mean…?” Before I can even finish the question or wait for her to respond, I see exactly what she’s talking about. The sun gleams off black steel.
Guns.
The humans haven’t shifted into their wolf forms because they are armed with guns. “He always does that,” Diana says, looking morose. “He knows he can’t win if he plays by the rules, so he cheats. He has armed men standing by, ready to shoot the wolves with silver bullets as they attack his forces.”
My knees grow weak just thinking about the damage that could be done by a bullet ripping through one of my Alphas. I grapple for the windowsill, trying to keep on my feet.
Diana sees me struggling and reaches over, taking hold of my arm. “Are you all right?” she asks me.
I shake my head. “No. I feel like I’m going to vomit,” I admit. “What if one of my Alphas gets killed?” Even the thought of their warriors being shot up makes me ill.
“I know. It’s terrible,” Diana says. “But you can’t get word to them because Alpha Kane is scrambling your thoughts, right? He won’t allow you to use the mind-link.”
“That’s right.” I sink down into a chair near the window, my hands rubbing my bulging belly. “There’s got to be some way to get word to them, though.”
Diana shrugs. “Even if there is, do you think it would make a difference? I mean, they are Alphas, on their way to save you, right? There’s already a battle raging on the other side of the castle with their advanced troops, and they are doing well there. You could tell them that Alpha Kane has called out his sharpshooters, but I doubt they’d slow down their running to get here.”
She might be right, but still, I have to try. “Why isn’t he shooting at them?” I ask.
“He knows if he lets the shooters fire before the Alphas get here, they’ll hear the gunfire or be told about the shootings from their advanced forces. So they’ll slow up, and then he won’t have a chance to take out the big dogs.”
“My Alphas,” I correct her, and she nods. “We have to do something!” I try to push up to standing again, but I can’t. I’m too weak, and the babies are scrambling inside of me, seeming to be playing a game of Twister.
“I’m sorry, Rose. I wish I could help you again, but I don’t think I can this time.” Diana looks sympathetically at me, and I think she is actually trying to help, to be a friend to me.
I think for a moment about what to do. I try to reach the Alphas again, but it’s clear that Alpha Kane is still doing that thing that prevents me from being able to use my mind-link. “Shit,” I mutter.
“Alphas have a lot of power when it comes to mind-links,” she says. “Especially when someone is in their pack, under their control.”
“You can say that again,” I agree as some sound finally does filter into me, and I hear howls in the distance. I wonder if I could open the window and shout to them. “Maybe you could sneak out and tell them!” I say, tugging on her arm.
“Uhm, no, I don’t think that’s a good idea,” she says. “They won’t know I’m there to help, and they’ll run me over.”
“You could tell them with the mind-link that you’re on their side before they reach you!” I suggest. “They’re all Alphas. They’ll be able to hear you!”
“Wait!” she says. “You’re right. They are all Alphas. I don’t need to go out there at all to reach them! Assuming Alpha Kane hasn’t caught on to the fact that I’m helping you yet, he’s not scrambling my mind-link. I can reach out to them!”
I feel stupid for not having thought of that before. “Of course, you can!” I smack myself in the forehead. “Their names are Alpha Tristan, Alpha Mark, and Alpha Reece. See if you can reach them! Tell them I’m here and about the guns.”
Diana nods, and I pray she’s able to reach them… and that I can trust her.
I can trust her, can’t I?
A few moments later, Diana is nodding. “Okay,” she tells me. “I was able to get through to all three of them, and I told them about the guns and where you are.”
“Thank the Moon Goddess!” I exclaim. “What are they going to do?”
“I’m not sure,” she says. “It’s not like they easily trusted me when I said I was on your side. So… I’m sure they’ll have to decide that without me.”
“Well, at least they know now.” I smile optimistically at her. I’m hoping that it’s enough. “Thank you.”
“Sure,” she says. “But… when you leave here, you’re taking me with you, right?”
“Of course!” I assure her. “You should probably go pack your bags.”
She snickers. “I don’t have anything worth taking.”
That makes me sad, but I can empathize. I’ve been there myself.
Outside of the window, I hear more howling… and then… a barrage of gunfire. I close my eyes tightly, afraid to look.
What if they all die?
