Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 244: Unfinished Business
Mark
It’s been a couple of days, but I still can’t quite shake the nerves. The pups are back and safe in my beautiful Rose’s arms. Kelly is back and brought with her another young girl who needs our protection. Rose is safe and well-protected in my castle. All the other Alphas and I are fine.
It sounds like a perfect situation, but I’m restless because we have unfinished business. Gene is still out there somewhere, and I won’t feel like everyone is truly safe until we take care of him. Obviously, his mental capacity is diminished, which I think makes him more dangerous. That’s why people like Barbara were able to get him to do their dirty work.
Thankfully, I’m not worried about Barbara anymore. When my beautiful Rose told me how she took care of her, I had to smile. She has really transformed from that shy and nervous woman who first arrived at the castle for the contest. Now, she’s a confident mother who knows how to defend herself and her pups. I’m so proud of her. Barbara will be locked up for the rest of her life now… missing an arm.
I know that the rest of the Alphas have the same nervous energy, and that’s why we’re going to get together today and talk about our next move. I’ve got a few ideas about that.
My mind is filled with thoughts about our next move as I run into Kelly heading down the hall toward Rose’s room. We lockstep as we’re headed in the same direction.
“Hey,” she says. “I hear I’m on duty for a bit.”
I nod. “Yes. The other Alphas and I need to regroup. If you and Shelby can spend time with Rose and the pups, that would be great.”
“Of course,” she says. “And if you need someone to tear Gene’s eyeballs out, I’m your gal.”
I laugh. “I’ll keep that in mind, though I think you have some plans of your own to keep you busy, right?”
“Yes, I’m taking Heather back to the resort,” she says. “But I’m going to wait until you Alphas deal with Gene first. I’m not taking Rose and those pups out of my sight until I know he’s under control.”
“I appreciate that… we all do, Kelly,” I say.
She smiles.
“Hey, how are you doing?” I ask. “You’ve gone through quite a bit yourself lately.”
She gives me a crooked smile and waves off my question. “Eh, that’s nothing compared to what Rose and the pups went through. I’m fine.”
“Good to hear,” I say.
We arrive at Rose’s room and open the door quietly. I don’t want to disturb any of the pups, or Rose, if she happens to be napping. I can’t even imagine what it must take to feed four pups at once. I know I’d be exhausted.
But she’s awake, and I see her beautiful eyes twinkle as she spots me. I can spot my little Matthew from a mile away, and right now, he happens to be the one getting breakfast from his mom. I want to hold both of them, but for now, I’m content with a gentle kiss on Rose’s lips and a stroke on my little boy’s head.
“How did you sleep?” I ask.
It was Tristan’s night to be with Rose, and he’s standing in the corner bouncing his little girl with love in his eyes. We’re taking turns spending the night with Rose again, though with her being so busy with the babies, our nights with her are more like baby duty, and let me tell you, not one of us Alphas are complaining. Compared to what we faced over these past weeks, changing a diaper is heaven.
“I don’t know that I ever sleep.” She giggles, and I know she’s not complaining at all.
“Well, try to rest sometimes anyway, beautiful,” I say.
“Oh, I do,” she says. “It’s just hard to fall asleep and miss one second of time with them.”
The way she looks at our son makes me smile. I give her another kiss and savor the flavor of her lips.
“My turn,” says Tristan.
Suddenly, he’s right behind me, and I look back and see that baby Trisha is back snuggled in her crib, fast asleep. I laugh and step aside for him to have his moment with Rose before we head to the council room of my castle to meet with the others.
I smile one more time at the beautiful sight of Rose and my son nestled comfortably in an overstuffed chair and head out the door with Tristan just as Shelby arrives.
We greet her before she goes in, then we walk for a few steps in silence before he says, “Damn, this is all so surreal.”
I nod. “I can’t believe it either. I don’t think it’s possible to thank the Moon Goddess enough for how things turned out.”
“I hear that,” he says.
It doesn’t take long to get to the council room, where Reece and Eli are already waiting for us. They look a little impatient, and I don’t blame them. All that nervous energy is coming back to me. I guess Rose had been a temporary cure.
“It’s about time you got here,” says Eli. “So, where do we go to kill the bastard?”
“Oh, come on, Eli,” says Tristan with a laugh. “Tell us how you really feel.”
I chuckle lightly and pour a cup of coffee from the station the servants left in the corner. “As with the rest of you, I’ve got scouts everywhere. He won’t hide for long.”
“I haven’t heard from any of my people yet,” says Reece. “But let me tell you, they’re all so angry they’re ready to tear him limb from limb when they find him. I had to give my Alphas commands that they leave him for us. They agreed of course, but they’re not happy.”
Eli nodded. “That bastard has caused a lot of death and heartache. The worst part is that none of that needed to happen. He’s the dumbass who thought up the contest in the first place. He decides not to keep his word, then suddenly our people have to pay the price.”
“I think this whole thing calls for a public punishment,” I say. “As much as we want to just take care of him right away ourselves, I think the whole kingdom has the right to see justice done.”
Reece nods. “I agree there. I think it’ll do the kingdom good.”
I open my mouth to add something, but the door opens, and a couple of servants walk in with two huge trays of pastries. We’ve got one of the best pastry chefs in the world here, so my mouth starts watering from the scent immediately.
Tristan is the first to reach for one and practically shoves the whole thing in his mouth. He looks up and we’re all just staring at him.
“What?” he asks, his mouth half full. “I can’t help it the food here is delicious.”
I laugh and thank the servants, who walk out of the room with a giggle. I take a pastry myself, and we have a few minutes where we’re doing nothing but eating. Frankly, I think we need it. It was hard to stomach anything when the pups were missing, so we have some catching up to do in the eating department. Besides, we need to shovel it in before Tristan downs all of it.
Thankfully, the servants left some towels to clean up because I need to handle the kingdom map so we can get down to business. The other Alphas move the empty trays aside and I spread it out on the big conference table.
“All right, we’ve got all four directions covered, so that’s good,” I say.
In this situation, it’s a damn good thing that there are four of us.
“Does anyone have any ideas of where he’d hide?” I ask. “Who knows Gene the best?”
We all just look at each other.
Reece shakes his head. “My parents knew his father, but honestly, I’d never stepped foot in the Dark Forest castle before the contest.”
“Same,” says Eli. “It’s like that bastard kept himself secluded because he knew he didn’t deserve the crown.”
“I’m sure that’s the case,” I agreed. “Tristan?”
Tristan shrugs and pours himself another cup of coffee. “Nope, just met the guy myself.”
“Well, we have nothing to work with on that end,” I say. “Maybe Adam knows something that can help. Let’s get him in here.”
I mind-link with Adam. “All right, he’ll be here,” I say. “In the meantime, let’s think about Gene’s punishment. I’m sure we’ll get word from our warriors as soon as they find him.”
“Nothing short of hanging works for me,” Eli says. The look in his eyes says he’s definitely had enough. I don’t blame him. His sister got kidnapped as well as his baby, so he’s been through a lot.
“I don’t know, that may be too quick,” says Reece. “If we lock him in the dungeon forever, he’s not a threat. I think he’s too stupid to be dangerous.”
I nod and start to chime in, but Tristan’s voice rings out from the corner by the coffee station.
“I have a better idea.”
We all turn to him, and he’s got a huge smirk on his face. Oh, boy.
