Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 236: I've Got This
*Rose*
“Rose, I just don’t think it’s a good idea,” Reece is saying as I get help from a few of the train station employees in packing up the belongings that have been delivered to the babies and me since we arrived here. That includes four car seat carriers. Only three of them currently have babies being wedged into them, and that makes my heart heavy.
“I want to speak to her,” I tell him, shoving some spare diapers into a bag.
The people of Amityville might have a reputation for being miscreants, but they really came through when they heard that the royal babies were at the train station. Since then, many of them have sent out search groups as well. They’re trying to find leads to give to Alpha Mark to let him know who might be the one who bought the babies from Retta.
I have a feeling, though, that Retta still has Trisha. If only she would answer the mind-link…. She has been ignoring me since the moment she first realized I knew what she was up to.
“If you go back there now, you’ll have to face King Gene, and I cannot let you do that alone, Rose. He’s still too dangerous.”
“The man doesn’t know how to tie his own shoes! Haven’t you noticed? All of his shoes are either Velcro or boots. He only wears slide-ons.”
Reece starts to laugh a little, but then he sees my face and realizes I don’t think this is funny. “You’re right, Rose,” he says. “I know that Gene is an idiot, but we have to imagine he still has powerful men working for him that could cause some damage if they wanted to. So I really think it would be best if you didn’t get anywhere near him.”
“Let’s send him away, then. Let’s trick him into thinking that Mark has already moved Barbara. I mean, wasn’t Mark talking about doing that anyway? I know you need to get back out there and help Tristan look for Trisha, but I think we should handle this first. Or Adam can do it.”
Reece opens his mouth, takes a deep breath, and lets it out. “Fine. I’ll work on fooling King Gene so you can talk to Barbara, but we need to figure out a way to get you back to the castle safely. So far, Kelly alone has been involved in two wrecks that caused her to be kidnapped. The car the babies were in wrecked. Clearly, people don’t know how to drive around here, or there are just a lot of people who want to cause people to wreck so that they can kidnap them.”
He does have a point. “I am sure that the armies you guys have standing by can spare some people to escort us back to Mark’s castle, and these babies will not be leaving my sight ever again, until they are twenty-one years old.”
“What about when they go to school?” he asks me with a smirk on his face.
I do not laugh. “No.”
“Okay,” he says. “We’ll sort it out. I just… someone here in town has to know where the man who bought the babies from Retta is, wouldn’t you think?”
“I would think. Is it possible Gene is threatening people to not tell us?” I ask. It doesn’t make sense. Amityville is not that big.
“I don’t think he’s that smart,” Reece states. “But it would be nice to know why this guy didn’t buy all four babies. Was there some reason he didn’t want Trisha or did Retta want to keep her?”
I fold my arms under my chest and glare at him. “Are you saying there’s something wrong with my little girl?”
“Absolutely not!” he says, holding his hands up in defense. “No, I just think that maybe he could only take three. Or maybe he didn’t have enough money to pay her everything she wanted, so she went somewhere else. Who knows?”
I continue to give him a mean glare for even implying that maybe there’s something wrong with my little girl. Every evil baby-buying creep would want my daughter.
“All I know is, I’ve made up my mind. Even though I didn’t think I’d ever want to go back to Mark’s castle, the scene of the crime, I want to talk to Barbara, and I want to talk to her now. Then, we can go somewhere else. Like… your castle or Tristan’s or something.” I know Eli’s far away, so I don’t mention it.
“Fine, darlin’, whatever you want.” He has his hands on my upper arms, and I think he’s going to kiss me. I’m not sure if I want him to after what he said about Trisha not being worthy of being bought, but when his lips come down softly on mine, I’m glad that he’s here. I lift up on my tiptoes to better reach him.
Shelby clears her throat. “The babies are ready to be loaded into a car. If we have one.”
“Yes, there’s one out front,” Reece says. “I’m in the process of sending King Gene off to my castle after a fake Barbara. We’ll just have to see if we can get him to leave before you arrive. But Rose, you need to be careful when you face her. I mean, she might be locked up in prison, but she’s still a deceptive woman who is likely to lash out and hurt you.”
I glare at him even more deeply now. “I will rip her fucking head off and shove it up her ass.”
He nods. “I think… you’ve got this handled then.”
I turn and pick up Reeva and Ethan in their carriers, and Shelby takes Matthew, and we head out the door, with staff from the train station carrying my other bags. Dozens of guards are waiting outside to escort us to the waiting SUV. Reece follows along behind us to make sure we get in the car okay. I know he thinks he should take us back to the castle, but Adam is with us now, and I know it’ll be all right. As long as Shelby is with the babies while I’m confronting Barbara, everything will be just fine.
And if Gene is still there when I arrive, I’ll rip his fucking head off, too. I’m not afraid of him anymore. I know what it’s like to lose everything now, and it hurts like hell. But I also know that what’s lost can be found. And I will rise from the ashes.
Like a fucking Phoenix.
