This is not going as planned, and I am pissed. I thought, by now, that stupid breeder would be out of the picture, but she’s not only here, she’s carrying the heir to the throne.

And my understanding, from overhearing the gossip around the palace, is that she’s actually pregnant with four babies.

That’s ridiculous! Who the hell let her have four babies in there at the same time? She’s not even fit to be the mother of one baby, and someone is shoving extra babies inside of her?

I know that I’m on thin ice with my cousin, King Gene, but I have heard him defend me recently, so I decide now is as good a time as ever to go to him and ask him once more to just get rid of this stupid Breeder. I am capable of having my own baby. Let my child be the next heir!

I walk to the king’s office and knock on the door. He shouts, “Not now! Whoever you are, go the fuck away!’

So I push open the door and smile at him. “Hello, King Gene,” I call in my sweetest voice.

He looks up at me and groans. “I said go away, Emily. That is the opposite of come in!”

“Yes, but you sounded so upset, I decided I should come in and cheer you up. Would you like for me to sing you a song? I do a lovely rendition of ‘The King is a Champion.’” That was one of his favorite songs.

“Emily, I really don’t think–”

I know he doesn’t want me to feel obligated, but I don’t mind. So I burst into song, putting my best operatic flair on it. “The king is a champion, no one is better than he. The king is a champion, as big and strong as a treeeee!”

“Emily!” he exclaims, but I can tell he is flattered, so I continue.

“The king is a champion, look at his strong arms! The king is a champion, full of all the chaaarrrrms!”

“Emily!” he bangs his fist on the desk. “I’m sorry, but I’m very busy right now! What do you want?”

“Oh, I’m sorry. I just… everyone loves my singing voice.” I bat my eyelashes at him and sit down across from him.

“Yes, I’m sure they do. I seem to recall hearing a similar cacophony coming from an alley near my hotel window the last time I stayed in the city. The only difference is, I’m pretty sure those cats hadn’t eaten for a few days.

I continue to smile at him, sure that is a compliment. He must’ve had a room near a nice nightclub where all of the cool cats hang out. “I just wanted to stop by and ask you about the Breeder. I know she’s pregnant, but the fact that she’s having a litter of children makes things more complicated. Perhaps now is a good time to get rid of her. We’ll just let me have the baby myself.”

“I’ve already told you, Emily, I do not want your reputation soiled by the world knowing you’re having sex with multiple men. As a virgin, I’m sure that you have no idea how awful that would be for your reputation,” he explains to me.

I clear my throat. He thinks I am a virgin? I should go with that. “Yes, yes, well why don’t you just let me choose who my partner will be?”

“Let you choose the next king?” he asks me.

I nod, and he bursts out laughing. “Why not? I’ll be the next queen. I should get a say!”

“Nope, absolutely not. We will go forward with the current plan. The Breeder will have her baby. The father of the babies becomes king and marries you. You’ll be queen. And as soon as those little bastards crawl out of her tummy, we kill her.”

I blow out a deep breath. I can’t ever convince him of anything. “What about the extra babies? Do we need to keep those?”

He stares at me. “What are you proposing, Emily?”

I groan. “I don’t want to have to raise all of those stupid babies. Can’t we just keep one and get rid of the others?”

“You want me to kill the other three babies?” he asks.

I shrug. “I don’t even want the one, let alone four.”

He shakes his head. “Get out, Emily.” He doesn’t sound like he’s certain it’s a bad idea, though.

His phone rings, and I decide I should go. “Fine,” I say. “But think about it.”

He picks up the receiver and says nothing more to me.

Irritated, I head back to my room. He doesn’t want to kill the stupid Breeder until after all four babies are born.

I honestly have no need for any of them. I wish I could’ve just convinced him from the start to let me carry the baby.

If that stupid Breeder wasn’t still here, then I could just do it myself.

Maybe I should just go ahead and get rid of her anyway.

Get rid of the Breeder–get rid of the babies.

Get rid of the problem….

I’ve never killed anyone before. I’ve thought about it lots of times, and lately, I’ve been trying to figure out how to kill that stupid bitch without getting in trouble for it.

I’ve thought about the best way to do it. I don’t want anything messy. Not a lot of blood or guts or that sort of thing. But… killing someone can get messy.

I decide I don’t want to do it myself.

Who can I get to kill this bitch? There’s got to be someone who owes me a favor….

I walk into my room, and I see Tara dusting the furniture. Immediately, a smile crosses my face. “Tara, darling, how would you like to be free from your maid services? How would you like to join my entourage as a friend, not as a worker?”

She turns and looks at me, and one eyebrow raises. I know she wants this. I can’t blame her. Who wouldn’t want to be my friend?

“Oh, uh, Miss Emily, I’m not sure–” she begins.

I scoff. “Of course, you want to. You’ll get to wear all of my hand-me-down gowns, help me with my hair and makeup–”

“I already help you with your hair and makeup, Mmss,” she clarifies.

I glare at her. “But help me as a friend, not a maid. You would be free to date, too. Find a nice man and settle down. What do you say, Tara?”

She takes a deep breath in and lets it out slowly. “I would like to be your friend, Miss Emily, but I’m not sure what I would have to do in order to make that happen, and I’m scared.”

Well, at least she’s honest. “It’s nothing difficult,” I say, playing it off. “I’ll just need you to take a few pills and put them in the Breeder’s dinner.”

She stares at me. “The Breeder?” she repeats. “Miss Rose? The pregnant woman?”

“That’s right. I want you to make sure she’s taking her vitamins, that’s all.” I go over to my dresser and pull out a bottle I always carry with me… just in case. Inside are a few pills. I take out two of them, hoping she won’t recognize what they really are. Not quite vitamins… just a little bit of wolf’s bane.

“Wouldn’t it be best if her doctor helped her with that sort of thing?” she asks me.

I sigh. “She’s not listening well, Tara. And I need you to listen to me. These are my children she’s carrying, remember? I want what’s best for them. Just take these into the kitchen and shove them into a couple of those pickles they’re always feeding her. Simple enough. She’ll get the vitamins she needs, and I’ll be happy. We can be friends.” I reach up and run my hand along her cheek.

“Won’t she taste the pill if she bites into it?” Tara asks.

She has a point. “Fine! Open up the capsules, dump them in her peanut butter, and stir it around. Stop making me do all of the thinking for you, Tara!” I shout. “Just do it!”

With that, I turn around and storm over to my dresser, picking up my brush and standing in front of the mirror as I restyle my hair. Tara is staring at the pills. I see her in the reflection. I should probably tell her not to try them herself, but if Tara dies, too, I won’t be upset.

So long as she completes this task first.

I wonder if they will realize what has happened to the Breeder. Maybe they’ll think her babies just killed her from the inside. If they do think someone has murdered her, I can just blame Alpha Kane. Surely, everyone will suspect he’s slipped someone into the castle. He’s the one who is waging war, not me.

I smile at myself. This will work. That filthy Breeder and her mangey pups will be out of the picture soon. Then, I’ll be the only one the Alphas want to get with.
