Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 193: Trapped
*Kelly*
My eyes open, but I still can’t see anything, though my eyesight is very sharp even when I’m not in wolf form. I’ve got a strange feeling washing over me; everything feels muffled and confused, and I can’t even think straight.
Then I remember it—the crash, the flipping car, Heather’s screaming, the people dragging us out. “Heather!” I scream.
“I… I’m here,” she says from somewhere. I’m not sure if she’s even in the same room or not, because it sounds far away, hollow, like she’s talking through some sort of iron pipe or something.
I try to shift and somehow, I’m completely blocked from doing it no matter how hard my mind tries to focus. The next step is a mind-link to call Eli, but that’s also oddly blank, so I start to feel panic rising up in my chest. Is there a powerful Alpha around here who can block my shifting and mind-link? Kane is dead, so it’s not him. But I don’t think Alpha Stephen or anyone else is powerful enough to block my mind-link. At least, I don’t think so. I’ve never experienced it before.
“Are you okay?” I ask Heather.
She doesn’t answer for a moment, so I’m worried, but then she chimes in with a weak voice, “I think so. I… I don’t know. Where are we?”
I shake my head but know she can’t see me in this pitch darkness. “I don’t know,” I say. “But I’m going to find out.” I try to stand up but instantly get yanked back down by something holding my hands together. It’s metal, handcuffs probably, and they’re very tight. My head had been too foggy to notice them before. I take a deep breath and try to adjust my eyes. There has to be some sliver of light in here somewhere.
“Kelly?” says Heather. “I can’t… move. I’m scared.”
“It’s okay,” I say, although I’m not convinced that it’s okay at all. “I’m going to reach Alpha Eli, and he’s going to find us. We’ll be okay.”
“But I… I can’t even talk ‘ta Eustace,” she says. “Why can’t I?”
“I’m not sure,” I say. I debate for a moment whether I should tell her I can’t reach Eli, either. She may have had a hard life, but she’s still young, almost still a child, really. In fact, maybe she’s even more of a child because she’s led that hard life. I don’t want to panic her, so I decide to keep that quiet.
All I can do now is try to assess my situation. The darkness tells me that we must be underground. If we’re just in an interior room, we’d see some sort of light through the cracks, I would think. I’m sitting on a floor, and it’s cold, and clearly, I’m attached to something low with these handcuffs because I can’t stand up.
The fogginess in my head is only clearing up a little bit. Did they drug me? I can’t remember.
A huge clanking sound startles me so much that I jump and instantly try to shift, but it’s still not working. Blinding light shoots into the room and I have to close my eyes because it’s so bright, it physically hurts. Then I hear loud footsteps.
“Kelly?” whispers Heather.
I try to reach for her, but I can’t move, and she’s too far away.

*Adam*
“What!?” Shelby is screaming at me, and I’m pacing around the room. I’ve just told her of my demotion, and clearly, she isn’t taking it well.
“I wish that was the worst part of all this,” I say.
“There’s more?!”
She’s getting louder, so I gesture with my hands that we need to keep it down. I don’t really want her screaming in my head and giving me a headache, but I have no choice but to take this conversation to another level.
‘He’s got some new crony, and he wants him to kill everyone,’ I say in the mind-link.
‘Kill everyone?!’ She’s still yelling, and yes, it’s already giving me a headache. ‘Kill who?’
‘Everyone,’ I say. ‘The Alphas, Rose… even the pups. He wants them all killed.’
‘But… but why? What did those four innocent pups do to him?’ she says. ‘Adam, you have to stop him.’
‘I know,’ I say. I wish it were that easy. ‘I know. But I don’t know how. I need help figuring this out.’
‘Well, who is this crony guy?’ she asks. ‘Do you really think he’ll kill innocent babies?’
‘He sure seems the type,’ I say. ‘His name is Alastor Dravenwolf. Heard of him?’
‘The name sounds familiar, but can’t say I remember exactly,’ she says. “What are we going to do?” She asks the last question out loud, but in a whisper.
“I need to warn the Alphas, but no one has answered me lately,” I say.
She nods. “Well, they’re new fathers,” she says. “Come to think of it, no one’s messaged me, either. I know Rose would want to tell me right away about the babies and would have them message us. You don’t think something’s gone wrong?”
“Goddess, I hope not,” I say.
“No,” she says, shaking her head. “I’m sure things are fine. Giving birth to four pups is quite a feat, so I’m sure she’s exhausted. She’s probably just gazing into each of their little eyes right now and has completely forgotten that the rest of the world even exists.”
“Probably,” I say. Now I’m worried. That threat from Gene sure sounded like he meant business, and I know nothing about Alastor. If they’re not answering, maybe he’s gotten his hands on them all already….
“Actually,” she says. “Something is wrong.”
“Why?” I ask.
“Kelly,” she says. “The moment those pups came out, she would have told me. She’s with Eli. So either Eli hasn’t reached Mark’s castle yet, or something really is wrong. Oh, Adam. What can we do?!”
“We’ll get some intel from this end,” I say. “He may have fired me, but Gene is too far gone to pay any attention to me listening in on him.”
“Well, I’m going with you,” she says, reaching for her shoes.
“I don’t want you involved in this,” I say. “I think it’s better if you just stay here. If they think I’m up to something, you could be in danger. I have no idea what this Alastor person is even capable of.”
“Oh, no,” she says. “You don’t get to play the ‘protect the womenfolk’ card with me. I’m going with you. Anything you’re in for, I’m in for right with you. Do you really think I’d be safe if they thought you were a spy anyway? They’d haul me down to that miserable dungeon to sit in Barbara’s old cage, or worse.”
Ugh, Barbara—I’d forgotten about her. Gene is pretty harmless, but if that Alastor guy and Barbara team up, we could all be in serious trouble. “Don’t remind me of that useless bitch,” I say. “We have to keep an eye on her, too. I think that’s the best thing we can do for the Alphas and Rose right now.”
“Okay, makes sense,” she says. “So that’s two people who need watching, and we’re two people, so that’s perfect. I can manage to be wherever Barbara is, but I think I’d stick out like a sore thumb if I hang out around Gene’s room. He might think I’m trying to…. Oh, Goddess, I’m not even going to go there. I’ll just watch Barbara. Where is she?”
I have no idea where Barbara is, and she’s the one I’m supposed to be watching, according to the Alphas. If they knew about Alastor, I’m sure they’d want us to keep an eye on both of them.
“I really don’t know,” I say, and I get ‘the glare,’ which means it’s time for me to get out of here. Shelby can be scary when she wants to be. She’s gorgeous and sexy, but frightening whenever she thinks I’m doing something stupid.
“I’ll find her,” she says after a brief stare-off.
“Alright,” I say. “Be careful. Keep trying to reach the Alphas. Whichever of us reaches them first, ask the Alphas to bring the other into the mind-link and we’ll figure this out.”
“Alright,” she says, pulling me into her arms and kissing me passionately. We linger for a moment, letting each other bask in the delicious taste of our mate, then we part, both heading down opposite ends of the hallway.
‘Don’t do anything stupid,’ she says in my mind.
