Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 148: Escaping the Castle

*Barbara*

She’s dead. I killed her. The fucking Breeder went and died on me when all I was trying to do was get her fat ass out of the bed and to Alpha Kane where she could be ransomed or some shit.

Now, what am I going to do?

Just as I am contemplating all of my life’s choices, the monstrosity of a Breeder inhales a deep breath, and her lips start to turn a little less blue.

“Oh, thank the Moon Goddess,” I murmur. Either she truly died and is back to life now, or I didn’t actually kill her after all.

At least she is still unconscious!

I decide it is best to wrap her up in one of her own sheets and drag her out of here because at least that way I will have some leverage. She really is ripe with pups, and I have to wonder if she will burst at any moment now.

What if the shot I gave her hurts the pups, and the king is pissed at me? I wonder as I manage to get a sheet off of the bed and wrapped around her. When I hoist her up, she’s not as heavy as she looks, but then, that makes sense to me because babies aren’t very heavy. I’m really carrying a woman and four babies.

I hope that the pups are all right. I doubt a little sedative will kill them. But Gene will probably be pissed if that’s the case.

I start by lifting the sheet that’s wrapped around her upper body, careful to keep her from hitting the floor too hard and alerting the idiot standing outside of the door. I figure he or she can’t be too smart because they didn’t come in when the Breeder screamed. But then, I have a feeling she is a noisy sleeper, so maybe they are used to hearing her make all of that noise and only come in if she calls, which is kind of stupid considering she could obviously be murdered without calling for help.

I could’ve murdered her. I think I might’ve murdered her for a few minutes….

Her feet hit the floor, but it’s not too loud, and then I’m able to drag her over to the secret passage and hoist her inside. It’ll be harder to navigate in here, in the dark, dragging her backward, but I’ll manage. I’m a pro at doing whatever I need to get done because I’ve found, in this life, pretty much the only person I can ever rely on is myself.

It seems to take ages to drag her body through the passage to the library. I know that there’s an exterior door just down the hall from there, and if it’s dark, I might just be able to get out that way. I really hope that Kane has heard my mind-link messages and is sending someone to help me, but knowing him, he’s probably standing in the forest somewhere, picking his nose, and wiping the boogers on the trees all in an effort to compare shades of green!

In other words, he’s an idiot.

When I reach the library, the door to the secret passage is slightly ajar just enough that I can see where it is. I manage to use my perfectly sculpted ass to push through the exit and take a look around.

No one is in here, which doesn’t surprise me. With the Alphas gone, the rest of the staff and inhabitants of the castle don’t exactly seem like the scholarly type who would be hanging out in a room full of books.

The door to the library is open slightly so I do have to be careful of anyone walking by. I hope that they have yet to find the guard I killed in the dungeon, no one is missing the Breeder yet, and we can all just go about our merry day.

With a kick, I shove the door to the secret passage closed as I get the Breeder’s legs free of the door and start to drag her down one of the rows of books, using her for cover as I go. I’m not sure what I’ll do in the hallway itself if someone wanders by, but for now, this will do.

The sound of hurried footsteps outside of the door has my eyes bulging. I’m in the middle of determining what to do when a guard stops. “Hey, what are you doing in here?” he asks.

Scared of being caught, I drop the Breeder on the floor and lean onto the shelf. Using as deep a voice as I can produce, I reply, “Uh, browsing for a book.”

“What was that sound?” When the Breeder hit the floor, it was a little louder than I intended.

“Uhm… encyclopedia,” I say. Quickly, I grab a large book off of the shelf, which may or may not be an actual encyclopedia, and drop it onto the ground next to the Breeder’s head. “Never had much use for them.”

He rolls his eyes at me. “Didn’t you hear the call from Seymour? We’re all supposed to be looking for that woman from the dungeon, Luna Barbara. She killed Thread.”

“Fred?” I ask, puzzled.

“NO! Thread!” he says, rolling his eyes again. “Fred is fine!”

“Ookay,” I say. “I’ll be right there. Let me put these books away.”

He sighs and turns around to run off, and I do pick up the book to cover my tracks and notice I’ve actually missed and smacked the Breeder in the head with it. Now, she has a giant goose egg. Well, maybe she’ll be out for longer.

I give the other guard a few minutes, but I have got to be careful now. If anyone sees me, I’ll be in a world of hurt, and I’ve got to take the Breeder out into the hallway. It’s the only way to get out of the castle.

‘Kane!’ I shout through the mind-link. ‘Can you hear me?’

Almost immediately, he replies, ‘Of course, I can hear you! I’m not deaf!’ As if he’s made a habit out of answering all of my other mind-link messages right away.

‘Listen, I really need your help! I have the Breeder, and I'm doing everything I can to get her out of the castle. But I’m not sure if I can do it! And I’ll need you to meet me outside!’

‘I’ve already sent fifteen troops to meet you, Barbara. Now, will you stop busting my balls and just do it already?’

I know he can’t see me, but I can’t help but narrow my eyes at him. If he thinks this is me busting his balls, he should wait for when I see him in person. I’ll make the phrase, “Going down on him,” have a different meaning altogether.

‘Fine!’ I shout back, and then I start moving the Breeder from the bookshelves to the hallway.

When I get to the door, I poke my head out. No one is coming, so I hurriedly begin to drag her toward the nearest exit. She slides easier over the stone surface than she did the carpet of the library, so I am able to pick up some speed.

I turn down the hallway where the exterior door is, and that’s when I see another guard. “Hey! What have you got there?” he shouts at me.

Looking down at the bundle, I can tell he can’t see the Breeder’s face. Much of her body is covered. Only one hand is flopping out of the sheet. “Uh… it’s, uh Fred. I mean, Thread,” I say. “King Gene told me to take him out to the garden and… get him ready. For… the funeral.”

He looks at me skeptically and takes a few steps closer before he shakes his head and says, “That Thread always did have dainty hands. Rest in peace, friend.”

I bow my head and repeat the phrase, “Rest in peace… friend.”

With a sigh, he lifts his head, gives a firm nod, as if that’s all he owes dear Thread and says, “As soon as you’re done, start looking for that bitch who slaughtered him. We’re going to make her pay.”

“I will… do that,” I stammer, hoping to sound compelling.

“She can run, but she can’t hide,” he says, looking off into the distance, like maybe I’ll just appear right in front of his stupid face. “Wherever she is, I’ll find her. No one gets away from Fred.”

With that, he turns and heads off, and I think I was wrong about Gene.

There are stupider people living in this castle.

Once Fred’s gone, I rush to the exit and push the doors open.

That’s when I see them.

A group of wolves running toward me at full speed!
