Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 116: Disturbances
*Mark*
The sound of feet marching around outside the door is making me restless. My groggy head and dry mouth aren’t making it any easier to relax. I get up and walk to the door. I need to find out what the ruckus is all about.
“Do you think the palace has been invaded?” Rose asks as she clutches her belly protectively.
I stride back to her and lift her chin with my palm and smile as I gaze into her eyes. Looking into her eyes is like getting lost in a cave full of fireflies on the night of a full moon. Beautiful.
“If we were under attack, I’m sure we would have known about it by now. Besides, we have a strong defense force set around these walls; no one can get in. If they do, the four of us are all here to protect you, baby, so don’t worry about anything.”
Rose smiles and nods softly. I can tell she’s still shaken and I plan to go investigate what’s happening. The door bursts open and Kelly storms in. She has a small box in her arms that she sets on the floor.
“Have you ever heard of knocking?” I ask.
She looks at me and rolls her eyes. “Knock-knock,” she purrs as she crouches beside the box.
I shake my head. “What’s going on out there?”
“Emily and Barbara were fighting. Eli says you should make your way to Barbara’s room,” she answers as she sorts something inside the box.
“Oh, okay. What do you have in there?” I ask curiously.
“Weapons of mass destruction,” she replies without raising her head from the task of going through her box.
I raise my brow. “Weapons?”
“Uh-huh.” She doesn’t offer any more details.
I kiss Rose on the head as I prepare to leave, then stroll over to where Kelly is crouched in front of the box. As I peer inside the box, I frown.
“These are just nun chucks,” I point out, puzzled.
“Not just any nun chucks, Alpha Mark. Ten of the most deadliest type of nun chucks ever created. I can take out an entire wolf pack with these,” Kelly says with an air of pride.
“I really don’t see that happening, Kelly, but if this is your weapon of choice, so be it,” I tell her, shaking my head.
Just then, Alpha Morris walks into the room. I move to stand in front of him. If Emily and Barbara’s fight was a distraction to get us all to leave Rose at his mercy, he has another thing coming.
I have to look up as I regard him. The guy is very tall, yet so scrawny. If he were to eat a bit of protein and put some meat on those bones, he would be quite a fierce-looking giant.
“What are you doing here?” I bark at him.
He moves back a few steps, opens his mouth, and closes it again. It looks like he has lost his ability to talk.
“Alpha Lanky is with me. He’ll be on guard duty outside the door. King Tristan’s orders,” Kelly says.
I look down at Kelly and raise my brows at her.
“Say what? The man who tried to kill Rose is going to be guarding her?”
Kelly smiles and shrugs. “Alpha Lanky isn’t all that bad. Besides, I’ll be here with Rose. He will be outside. If he tries anything stupid, I will shove so many nun chucks so far up his ass, he might just look like he got a Brazilian butt lift.”
Alpha Morris winces and then nods his agreement. “I’m a friend. One of you now.”
I shake my head. One of who? I move closer to him. “If you try anything funny, I will tear every one of your limbs from your pathetic body.”
My voice sounds menacing, but it doesn’t help that my head is level with his chest as I speak. Damn, the guy is tall.
“Take care of her,” I tell Kelly. “You, come with me,” I say as I take Morris's arm and lead him out of the door. I leave him outside the now-closed door and make my way toward the East wing.
I speed walk down the hallway toward where Barbara is being held. As I get there, I see two bodies lying on the floor covered in red blankets. Well, that was easy. It seems the two witches took each other out.
“No one gave me the good news,” I announce as I enter the room.
The three Alphas all turn to look at me with frowns on their faces.
“What good news?” Tristan asks.
“I heard Emily and Barbara were fighting, so I assume they took each other out,” I nodded toward the bodies. “You know… met their maker. Kicked the bucket.”
“Alpha Mark, I had no idea you would call my death good news. Do you hate me that much? After what we shared a couple of nights ago?” I hear Barbara’s voice.
I jerk my head to my right side and see her sitting in a rocking chair slowly unwrapping a piece of candy. She is naked and smiles when our eyes meet. What the hell?
“Do you see her too?” I ask.
Eli and Reece roll their eyes.
“See who?” Tristan asks.
I point at Barbara. Tristan looks in the direction I’m pointing and then back at me.
“Are you feeling all right? Maybe the drugs aren’t completely out of your system. Do you have a fever?” Tristan steps toward me and puts the back of his hand to my forehead.
“I’m fine. But I promise you, Luna Barbara is sitting right there. Can you all see her? I think she’s haunting me.” I add in a whisper, “And she’s naked.”
Tristan lets out a loud belly laugh.
“I think he is going mad,” Reece adds.
I look from one Alpha to the next. Did this mean they all couldn’t see her?
“I am telling you, Luna Barbara is sitting right there,” I insist.
“Of course, I am, darling Mark. Where else would I be? This is my room after all,” Luna Barbara explains.
I stagger back. “Guys, do you hear her at least?”
I’m hoping Emily won’t be haunting me too. Her ghost will torment me to no end, begging me to spank her.
“Earth to Mark. We can all see and hear Luna Barbara. She isn’t a ghost. She is very much alive… unfortunately,” Tristan clarifies.
Phew. They had me going there for a bit… or did I have myself going? I look at Tristan as my mind tries to process everything.
“So, if she is alive, who are those dead people out there? Please tell me one of them is Emily,” I ask.
“Wouldn’t that be nice? I’m sorry to say it, but Emily is a cockroach; she doesn’t die. Even if you spray some pesticide in her face, you’ll still see her stick legs kicking,” Luna Barbara says.
“One of them killed the guards that I had keeping watch over Luna Barbara’s room,” Tristan says.
“What? Which one of them killed the guards? Those men had wives and families.” I clench my fists as fury engulfs me.
“For crying out loud, Emily killed those guards. How do you suppose I killed them? The door was locked from the outside, and the guards were outside. If y’all think I can glide through doors or keyholes, you are giving me too much credit. Or do you all think I really am a ghost? Walking through walls and shit? Use your fucking heads to think,” Luna Barbara says.
“We know your story, Barbara,” Eli says. “We’re just confirming that one of the guards didn’t unlock the door for you, then you killed them, and let Emily in.”
“Where’s Emily? If she killed two innocent men, I hope she is dead too,” I say.
“No. She was taken to the infirmary. Dr. Penderghan is tending to her injuries. She has a torn shoulder ligament, a chest wound, a few broken ribs, and a punctured lung,” Tristan narrates.
I look over at Luna Barbara. She shrugs as she pops a candy into her mouth. “All I did was touch the bitch and she fell apart.”
“So tell me again why a murderer needs medical attention? Why didn’t you just let her die?” I direct the question to Tristan.
“We never leave a wolf wounded. Besides, she has to be in her best shape to face the punishment that’s coming to her. I have a few ideas on the best torture gadgets to use on her. I promise you, Emily has a slow, painful, and humiliating death waiting for her.”
I nod. I do want to see Emily suffer for her crimes.
“Emily doesn’t deserve a quick death. That would be too easy. She needs to stew and suffer,” Reece adds with a distant look in his eyes.
Emily has spilled so much innocent blood for her own selfish needs. I agree that she needs to suffer. I think of the poor cook and her family.
“As for you, Luna Barbara, you can’t stay here. You aren’t innocent either. You drugged Alpha Mark, and we know about your alliance with Alpha Kane,” Tristan declares.
Tristan calls some of the strongest men from his pack and instructs them to take Luna Barbara to the dungeon.
We all go to Eli’s room. When we get there, Tristan pours out drinks for all of us.
“Well, thank you, Your Majesty,” Eli says. He bows slightly and grins as he accepts the drink.
“We need to get rid of Barbara,” Reece adds.
“Yeah, maybe we can ship her to another realm or something,” Tristan says.
I frown. “If only it were that simple.”
“Then find a witch to cast a spell that will put her in that book. She just has to go far, far away,” Tristan declares.
Just then the door bursts open. I guess no one knocks anymore.
Shelby charges in; she looks like she has just seen a dementor and is breathless.
“R--Rose is in labor!”
