Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 172: Up to My Eyeballs
*Barbara*
They’re going to figure out that I lied to them, and then… well, I’m going to be in deep, deep doo-doo.
Not to mention the fact that Kane is supposed to be storming this castle already, and he’s not.
I need to convince Gene to do something that will throw the Alphas off, but when I knock on his open office door, he is asleep on his desk, his head folded on his arms, drool dripping out of the corner of his mouth.
He is a helpless man-child, and I absolutely hate him. I hate Kane, too, but I also love him, and that may seem complicated, but it’s the truth.
Gene, on the other hand, I am ready to shake until his head wobbles loose and then springs free of his neck and rolls around the floor. At least he bought my story about someone else being responsible for killing that guard. He is such a fucking moron.
So I can’t help but stand in the doorway and scream his name at the top of my lungs to jar him awake. “Gene!” I shout.
He leaps up, banging his knee on the bottom of his desk, shouting, “Mommy?” followed quickly by, “Ouch!”
I shake my head as he stands there and rubs his leg. He narrows his gaze at me. “You’re not my mommy–mother. What are you doing in my office, Barbara? You know I can't be tempted by your seductering ways.”
I roll my eyes at him. “I’m not trying to seduce you, Your Majesty.” It kills me a bit on the inside to have to call him that. “I just came to ask you what your plan is when those Alphas find Rose and come back here to fight you.”
His eyebrows knit together as he stares at me, clearly dumbfounded. “Rose?” he repeats. He reaches up and strokes his chin. “Do I know a Rose?”
I want to punch him in his dumb head.
“Yeah, you do. She’s the Breeder,” I remind him.
“Oh, right. That Rose,” he says. “I’m confused. I thought that Kane was going to wait until those babies crawled out of her and then kill them all. What’s taking him so long? Can’t he force the babies to crawl out? Can’t he just bend down and shout up her va-jay-jay and order them to come out? Or is he just not as powerful as I am?”
I stare at him, feeling rather dumb myself now. Is it possible that anyone can be as stupid as he is? “How many times did your mother drop you on your head when you were a baby?” I ask him.
He blinks at me a few times, shrugs, and says, “Well, I don’t know, Barbara. I was a baby. Babies are dumb. I wouldn’t remember that.”
My gut feeling tells me that it’s a lot. He probably fell off of the bed onto his head on the daily for a few years to be this stupid.
“King Gene,” I say, closing the distance between us, “this is serious. Those Alphas are going to be pissed when they get back here, especially if something does happen to those babies or that woman. Listen, you started all of this, right? It was your idea to bring them here and to bring her here. Now, you’ve got to get your shit together to fight against them.”
He looks like he’s about to say something smart to me, but then his forehead crinkles, and he’s rubbing his chin again. “You know, I’ve never thought about that. Is that… an option? I wasn’t aware that… shit could fight.”
“What?” I ask him, thinking I can’t actually be hearing this.
“I mean… it is part of me. I always just flush it away, but maybe I should just fish it out and give it a chance to crawl around, like those babies. Maybe it could fight, too?”
I feel like I might throw up, envisioning him fishing his shit out of the toilet and trying to train it to fight on his behalf. “I know you are the king, and I’m meant to respect you,” I begin, “but you are one sick, idiotic motherfucker,” I tell him.
He stares at me wide eyed. “How dare you!”
“Listen, I’m trying to help you. Did you know that there’s a secret passage where the door leads out into the middle of the forest? Just about anyone could come into the castle that way, and Kane knows where it is.”
He swats at me with his hand. “Yes, I know about that door. But don’t worry. It’s locked.”
“It’s not locked!” I tell him. “I know because I–” I stop myself as I realize I can’t tell him the truth, and I don’t want to be as stupid as he is. “I know because Kane told me. Even if it was locked, it wouldn’t be too difficult for a competent Alpha to lead his army through that door and right into your castle.”
I have to specify a competent Alpha because I don’t know why Kane hasn’t done this already. He certainly didn’t need the key, and he certainly didn’t need me to be the guinea pig.
“Do you really think those big, bad Alphas are going to be coming for me?” King Gene asks, and he looks a bit terrified.
“Yes, I do!” I tell him, my arms flailing in frustration. “I do think they will come for you, and I do think that you need to figure out what you’re going to do about it. If you have any other allies out there, you’d better call them and get them over here stat.”
“That’s easy enough,” he says with a shrug. “I’ve got Alpha Kane.”
“No, you don’t!” I shout at him. “Alpha Kane is not your ally! He is planning on storming this castle through that door I just told you about as soon as he figures out what to do with Rose and the attacking Alphas. I’m telling you, Gene, you’ve got to figure this out! Do you have any other Alphas that are still loyal to you, or are all of them only interested in the throne?”
Sweat is beading on his forehead as he stares over his desk at me, shaking his head. “I… I don’t know.” His bottom lip protrudes, and he looks like he’s about to cry.
“Now is the time to find out!” I tell him. “Call them. Pick up the fucking phone and call the people you think might help you.”
That’s it. That’s all I can do. I know how to get out of this castle. I need to seriously consider what my next move is. Do I really want to be here when the shit hits the fan? No, I really don’t, especially if the shit just happens to be his own poop balls he’s fished out of the toilet.
Nope. I’m out.
I turn and walk back to my room, but I can’t just run away at this point. I have my own army, but it’s small, and so far, they’ve been practically useless. I have my own pack, but they can easily be overrun. That means… I’m in a precarious position, and I’ve got to be careful, or I’m going to end up in just as deep a pile of shit as Gene.
And I don’t like to play with my poo….
