Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 47: What's Going to Happen to Rose
*King Gene*
I’m supposed to be working, but I can’t keep my mind on the important paperwork spread on my desk, paperwork that details Alpha Kane’s movements and where he is planning his attacks, according to my loyal spies.
Instead, my mind is on that stupid Breeder and those idiot Alphas who apparently are developing feelings for her. I don’t understand how this went sideways so quickly!
A knock on my office door causes a sigh to escape my lips. What the fuck could this be now?
“Yes?” I call, and my assistant Thomas opens the door, slowly.
“Sir, Miss Emily is here to see you.” He has an apologetic expression on his face, as if he knows she is one of the last people on the planet I want to talk to.
I open my mouth to tell him, “Not now,” but before the words escape, my cousin comes bursting into the room, her gown fluttering out around her as she creates her own wind.
Her own tornado.
“Emily, I’m kind of in the middle of things–” I begin.
She dares to cut me off. “Do you know what those pathetic Alphas are up to?”
Again, I open my mouth in an attempt to answer. “I believe they are–”
“They’re trying to get rid of me!” She practically jumps up and down, her hands in fists, as she shouts at me. “Can you believe it, cousin?”
“Uh, King Gene will suffice,” I say with an edge to my voice. “And what do you mean they are trying to get rid of you?”
“My maid overheard those assholes in the garden talking about how one of them should just pretend to love me so that he could marry me, and then the fucking Breeder would be available for whoever becomes king to marry. Or maybe they all want to share her, hell if I know. At any rate, they can’t do this, cousin!”
I glare more deeply at her. The Alphas’ discussion was an intentional disregard for my order, and it’s getting on my nerves.
But then, Emily is getting on my nerves.
It was clear to me earlier when the Alphas were all present in my office, and then when they came back in pairs, that they want Emily out of the picture. That was no slip up when one of them had accidentally called Kane a name that started with an Em because he had been planning to say Emily.
They’d assumed I am upset over my own family member and not the maniacal bastard who is trying to take my kingdom from me.
“You can’t let this happen, cousin!” she pleads, bending her knees and bouncing up and down while she waves her skirt around–like a child.
Like a spoiled child.
“I’m the prettiest one! I’m the one with the royal blood! Why the fuck does this stupid big-nosed Breeder get all the goddessdamn attention?” Emily whined.
I shake my head at her. “I honestly don’t know.” While I have to admit I thought the Breeder was pretty, too, I don’t think that is enough for all of these Alphas to lose their shit over. After all, she is just a fucking Breeder! And they are Alphas. They are meant to be classier than that.
I sigh, wanting to tell Emily what is weighing on my mind, that I wish I never would’ve even chosen these particular Alphas to begin with.
I had done so because I thought they were all loyal to me and among the strongest in our kingdom. But they are obviously weak, it seems. Otherwise, they would be smart enough to know who the real prize is here. Besides, they don’t know the truth of the matter–that this Breeder business isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. They don’t know my true motivation for this entire event.
It’s not some stupid fucking Breeder from an inconsequential pack who just happens to have a good uterus who will be ruling my pack after me, if my true agenda fails. No, it’s my cousin. She will be the next Luna. The Breeder just needs to go away!
So… I will have to facilitate that.
I can’t have Emily in the know about my plan, though. If she has that information, it’ll soon be spread all over the castle.
“Emily, don’t worry about it,” I assure her. “I’ll take care of it. Soon enough, we’ll know who the father is, and then, these other assholes can go back to their packs.” Of course, I need them to stay loyal to me so that they can help me fight off Kane and whoever else might become an enemy. So… I’ll have to let them think that they are winning until they discover that they haven’t won anything at all.
“You’ll make them like me?” Emily asks. “Can you order them to?”
I want to laugh at her. Why does she think that’s how life works? “I’ll see what I can do,” I reply.
She smiles for the first time since she came into my office. “I am the prettiest,” she declares.
I nod. “Of course, you are. Now, go back to your room, and I’ll see you later. Please… don’t come back unless I send for you.”
She looks annoyed at my last request, but I mean it. “Fine,” she huffs. She turns around and walks away, and I am immediately annoyed that she has broken the court rule about never turning your back to the king.
It’s not worth it to me to fight at the moment, though.
“Thomas?” I shout, and my assistant steps in.
“Yes, Your Majesty?” He bows his head respectfully.
“Go fetch me Beta Adam.” I stare at him until I see he is doing what I ask, and then I try to get back to my work before Adam arrives. Knowing my Beta, it’ll only be a few minutes.
The man is petrified of me. He’ll do whatever I say.
It’s sort of sad sometimes to have such a weak Beta, but it is what it is. My father’s Beta, Adam’s dad, was much stronger than he is, and my father had a close relationship with him. I am quite a bit older than Adam, so he and I never spent much time with one another until his father retired a few years ago.
Now, I am stuck with him.
If he wasn’t so fucking loyal and passive, I’d probably send him packing.
When he arrives, he knocks respectfully on the door. I know his knock well and wait a few seconds before I say, “Come!” just to mess with his mind.
Adam walks in slowly, stoically. “You wanted to see me, Alpha?”
“Yes, yes,” I say, gesturing at a chair across from me.
He sits down, unbuttoning his suit jacket, but he looks nervous, and I enjoy the feeling of anxiety rushing off him like ocean waves.
“Adam, what do you know about the situation with the four Alphas and this Breeder girl?” I ask him, folding my hands in front of me on top of the desk.
He clears his throat. “Well, I know she’s pregnant. And I know that they seem to enjoy her company. She seems like a nice girl.”
I nod, watching him closely. “How well do you know her?”
He shakes his head. “Not well.”
“And your wife?” I ask, knowing that his stupid wife, Shelby, has him by the nuts almost as forcefully as I do, which could be a problem.
Again, he looks uncertain. “I believe Shelby counts the girl as a friend. I’m not sure.”
“That could be a problem,” I mumble. “Adam, where does your loyalty lie?”
His eyebrows arch. “Why… to you, of course, sir. To the crown.”
“Good, good,” I say, smiling at him. “I know that that wife of yours is not terribly subservient. Really, you need to get a better handle on her.”
He won’t meet my eyes, and I think I have insulted the woman, but I don’t care. Eventually, he mutters, “Yes, Sir.”
“Now, I have a task for you regarding the Breeder. She has become a pain in my ass, and she is wreaking havoc on my plans.” I lean back in my chair, watching for his reaction.
He has none. That’s good. After all, Beta Adam has no skin in this game.
At least, he shouldn’t have any, especially if things are as he says and his loyalty is to me and not his wife.
“Sir?” he asks, prompting me to continue.
“As soon as this woman has her baby, you will need to get rid of her for me, Adam,” I tell him, again, studying his face.
He nods slowly. “You mean… take her back home? To her original pack?”
I can’t help the low rumble that shoots through my lips. I shake my head. “No, no, no, Adam. As long as this Breeder bitch exists, she will be a thorn in my side, one that will constantly distract the next king from paying attention to his beautiful bride, my cousin, Emily. No, taking her back to her home pack isn’t enough, Adam.”
He sits up in the chair, his eyes twitching nervously as he tries to grasp what I am telling him.
Finally, he speaks. “Well, Sir, if you don’t want me to take her home, what do you want me to do?”
I think I have been clear, but apparently, Adam is the type of person who needs every little fucking thing spelled out for him.
“I want you to kill her.”
