Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 121: The Breeder Must Die
*King Gene*
I’m steaming with anger as I reach the palace gates, to the point where I’m even feeling physically heated, as though it’s not anger overheating me at all.
“Do you think you should remove that, Your Majesty?” asks one of my guards. Only a few of my most trusted men had accompanied me to my hideout… er, had gone with me on my top-secret mission. Of course, I’d left my Beta behind. Adam needed to keep an eye out around here.
I look at my guard with my brows knitted together, and the man nods toward me, his eyes on the top of my head.
Lifting my hand to my crown, I hear the loud crumbling of foil… and I realize I’m still wearing that ridiculous foil hat Emily had talked me into making.
Obviously, the damn thing doesn’t work since Barbara mind-linked me right through the useless piece of shit. It certainly will do me no good against Kane. I rip it off my head, crumble it into a ball, and throw it to the ground as my guards hold the door open for me and I reenter my beautiful palace.
Ah, home… this is where I belong. I am the king, and I will regain my proper place today with glory and fanfare.
First things first… I need to find that Tristan fellow and formally excuse him from his temporary duties as king. He had a thing for that filthy Breeder, so I start toward her quarters hoping to find the Alpha there.
Well, there is an Alpha there standing outside her door, but it isn’t the one I am looking for. “Mark, boy!” I call to him.
“Alpha Mark,” he says, looking down at me with his brows raised as though he’s startled. I can’t imagine why he would be startled to find the king walking the halls of his own damn palace.
“Whatever,” I say. “Where’s that Tristan lad?”
“Alpha Tristan?” he asks.
“Yes, that’s the one,” I say. Isn’t that what I just said?
“I… I’m not sure,” he tells me, still looking like he’s staring at a ghost. “What are you doing back already? What about Alpha Kane?”
“To hell with Kane,” I holler. “I am the king. I belong in my palace, and that’s where I shall be, enemies be damned. Now, where’s Alpha Tristan?”
“Um… I think he went out somewhere in the gardens,” he says.
“Now why the hell would he be out in the… never mind, I’ll find him,” I grumble. “A lot of help you are,” I add with a mumble. But then I turn on my heels and look up at him again. “How’s the woman… the Breeder holding up?”
“She’s doing really well,” the Alpha says with a smile. “I don’t think we’ll be waiting too much longer to see the new heirs to the throne.”
Not the news I was hoping for… I force my lips into a smile. “Fine, fine,” I say, spinning back around and heading off to the… where was it? Oh, yes. The gardens, Tristan is in the gardens.
I walk off without another word. There’s no sense in making small talk with the wrong Alpha. Although I have a vague recollection in my mind about the group of four Alphas not helping me with Kane if I did something. Or didn’t do something. What was it? Eh, it probably isn’t important right now.
After a long walk taking great strides, my guard beside me inexplicably requiring fewer steps than I, I arrive at the gardens.
They’re empty.
The sides of my mouth sink to a frown as I spin around and walk just as quickly back to my quarters. I’ll find the man later. What I need now is a long shower and a return to my own luxurious bed.
All the while that I’m walking… and it takes quite a while to navigate these hallways… I start to think more about the Breeder. Alpha Mark said she was getting closer to those babies crawling out of her. I didn’t see the woman for myself. Maybe I should have.
Regardless, it seems her crawling time is coming, or whatever you call it, so I’d better enact my plan. For that, I’d need my Beta. “Adam!” I holler through the mind-link.
“S-Sir, Your Majesty,” he says with a sputter in my head. “You sound close.”
“Of course, I’m close, you idiot,” I say. “Meet me in my quarters.”
“In the palace?” he asks.
“Of course, in the palace. Where else would my quarters be?” I ask.
I’ve finally reached my room, and I command that the guard wait outside and let only the Beta enter.
Ah, a rush of fine fragrance greets me. I’d instructed the maids to keep fresh flowers in my room at all times so that when I return, I can bask in their luxurious scent. Now that’s true loyalty; I’ll have to reward the maids for a job well done.
Moments later, my Beta walks through the door, looking completely disheveled.
“Were you out in the garden too?” I ask him.
“Garden?” he asks. “No, why do you ask?”
“It’s not important right now,” I say.
“Your Majesty, forgive me, but why have you returned already?” Beta Adam asks.
“I live here!” I say in a booming voice. From his startled jump, I can see that my tone was effective. “I can come and go as I please. I’m the king!”
“Yes, of course, you are, Your Majesty.”
That’s better. I can’t stand a mouthy Beta. “What I’m doing isn’t important,” I say. “What is important is what’s been going on here since I’ve been gone. Are those infants about to crawl out of that woman or not?”
“Not quite yet,” my Beta says. “We had a bit of a scare, but she’s fine now with some rest. The pups should be just fine.”
I grunt and head over to my wet bar. The maids keep all my bottles of fine whiskey underneath the bar where I can reach them, and I pour myself a glass. I pause for a moment, watching the one-hundred-year-old liquid swirl around in the sparkling crystal before I gulp it down. Perfection.
“Your Majesty?”
I hear the words and open my eyes. Apparently, I’d closed them to enjoy my drink. “What?”
“You were asking about the Breeder’s condition,” he says.
“Condition, yes,” I say. “How close would you say it is to the crawling day?”
“The crawling day?” He says it as though it’s a question, but then his eyes open a little wider as though he’s realizing something. “Ah, the day of the birth. We have a little time left, but I do think it’s approaching soon.”
“No good, Adam,” I say. “That’s no good.”
“Why not, Your Majesty?” Adam asks. “That means it’s closer to when she’s going to leave. I thought that’s what you wanted.”
“You idiot!” I say, nearly spilling my drink while slamming it down on the bar. It’s a shame to waste a drop of this fine whiskey. “When those babies crawl out, one of those scheming Alphas will expect to lay claim to the throne. Or rather, all damn four of them are planning to take over! Why would I want them to have any hold over what’s rightfully mine?! I swear I have no idea why I let you talk me into this whole arrangement in the first place.”
“But I didn’t—”
“You didn’t think, I know!” I say. “We’ll have to rectify this mistake right away.”
“Rectify?” he says.
“You’re repeating things, do you know that, Adam? I need my Beta to be in much better command over his mental faculties, you know,” I say. I pour another glass and walk over to relax in my favorite chair. I have to scoot up a bit to climb into it, but it makes me look tall and regal.
“Your Majesty, my mind is perfectly fine,” he says.
“Good! Good,” I say. “You’ll need to really use your noggin to hatch the perfect plan to get it done.”
“Get it done?” Adam asks.
He’s really starting to get on my nerves with all these questions. I thought I made the task he was to accomplish perfectly clear. I look at him, a bit more even with his eye level now since I’m sitting in my favorite chair. I really do love this fine piece of furniture.
“My boy, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten your task,” I say.
“No,” he says, with a nervous twitch in his eye. “I haven’t forgotten what you want me to do. But the pups, Your Majesty. The Breeder is far along in her pregnancy….”
I hold up my hand. “I don’t want to hear about the disgusting technicalities of pup bearing,” I say. “All that messy stuff is for women to discuss. You and I have a far different matter at hand, something far more important to me… er, to my kingdom.”
“But I just can’t—”
“Dammit!” I scream. “You’re my Beta, and you’re here to follow my commands without pause! You’re to carry out my plan immediately before those Alphas have any cause to lay claim to my throne! Kill that nasty Breeder woman immediately! I expect to hear the news that she’s dead by sunrise.”
