Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 56: Mock Resolution

A little bit of the Sherry spills out of the glass as Mark slams it onto the table. His declaration is followed by a tense quiet. I wonder why he seems all worked up as I had assumed we were all on the same page when it came to Rose.
“I think YOU are the one who is misunderstanding the whole thing. We are fighting for the Kingdom; Rose is carrying the future of the Kingdom. Fighting for her is fighting for the Kingdom,” Tristan says.
“Yeah, man. Take a chill pill, will you? You are so worked up and coming to your own conclusions. We all have the best interests of this whole Kingdom at heart. The reason Rose was brought here and gave herself fully to the four of us is for the Kingdom, so what is your problem?” Reece asks.
“I never said I don’t think Rose is a very important part of this Kingdom. Heck, she is the most important person to me as well, but we mustn’t forget the war isn’t being fought for her, but for the whole Kingdom,” Mark defends himself.
“If we all go fight against Alpha Kane, whether I fight with the last of my strength with Rose in mind, does it not still benefit the Kingdom when we defeat him?” I ask.
Mark taps the edge of the table with his finger and raises his eyes to meet mine. “It does, but saying we are going to fight for Rose is a bit off, don’t you think? We are fighting for the Kingdom in its entirety. It is a bit irresponsible and selfish to think of this war as one person's war.”
I know we all have a good comeback to his reasoning, but none of us says anything. This pending war seems to have gotten everyone on edge and is causing an unnecessary commotion.
“Tomato-tomahto, right? In the end, if we win, the Kingdom and Rose are kept safe,” I say and take a huge gulp of my Sherry, wishing it was something stronger.
“If Kane takes over this Kingdom and Rose, it’s all over. If the babies Rose is carrying are taken by either Emily or Kane, again there is no Kingdom. Do any of you hear who the common denominator in this equation is?” Tristan asks.
“Question is why did we all leave our packs to come here? For Rose to carry the future of this Kingdom within her womb, right? A move made for the advancement of the Kingdom,” Reece says.
“Not to mention that the main reason Kane declared war was because of Rose. He wanted his name in the hat for a chance to impregnate her,” I add to Reece’s statement.
“Point of correction, he wanted to be considered for the chance to be crowned King. It wasn’t necessarily because of Rose,” Mark argues.
I pour the last drops of the wine in the bottle straight into my mouth, before clearing my throat to speak. “Do you reckon all he is interested in is the crown? He has heard that Rose is a catch and wants to experience her for himself… it’s all about Rose, bro. You are just too blind to see it, or you are just in denial.”
One thing that people overlook when dealing with going to war is the pre-trauma of the concept of fighting. So many things can go wrong during the initial phases. We are all aware of the impact of war, and the stress that goes along with it starts before landing on the battlefield.
As we sit, I am well aware of the fact that we are reacting to the mental trailers of what could go wrong during this fight. How people deal with this is different, and this is just Mark’s reaction.
I am tempted to point out that his reaction feels like he wants us to put Rose on the back burner and just fight for the Kingdom. I am not blind to the fact that he loves Rose and he too will be fighting to make sure she is kept safe, no matter what he is vocalizing at the present moment. I am not about to be his personal therapist or a Dr. Phil. I will let him deal with this pending war in his own way.
“I think we have done enough talking about this. Let’s just put all of this on a top mental shelf for now,” Mark says.
I see no reason to continue this unnecessary argument. I stand up and decide to go find Kelly. I just need her to distract me from all this for a little while.
As I walk down the corridor, I realize that I am a little light-headed. I had underestimated the punch the wine carried. I find Kelly and Rose seated in the palace’s public library. They have lots of open books and magazines in front of them.
“Brother, come and see the beauty of bringing life into the world,” Kelly calls out to me as I walk in.
I try to walk in a steadier line, although it seems like the floor is further away from my feet. I shake my head and will myself to focus.
When I reach them, I bend down and kiss Rose on the cheek before winking at Kelly. She then pushes a book into my face. I take a step back and look at what she is showing me. The picture in front of me causes my stomach to drop.
It is an image of a baby’s head protruding from a woman. The head is covered in what looks like white jelly and blood. All the wine seems to find its way back to my mouth. This had to be some sick joke.
“How is this beautiful?” I ask and know my eyes must look like a full hunter’s moon.
Kelly and Rose both burst out laughing. “That’s how babies are born, silly. All you are used to seeing is a tiny new baby in their new fluffy clothes, right? Well, brother, this is how all those precious bundles of joy arrive in the real world.”
I struggle to swallow the bile rising in my chest as I pull out a chair and sit down.
“How does th-that fit down there?” I ask.
“Women are amazing creatures. Now, y’all should think twice before discerning that calling one a pussy is an insult depicting weakness. You have now seen what a pussy should do, so all of you should be even more respectful to women,” Kelly nods.
“You look like you’re going to be sick,” Rose tells me. “I’m worried about it, too, but I figure this is the same process all of us used to get into the world. If all of those other women can do it, so can I. Right?”
I nod. I know she is assuming my somber mood is all because of the scary picture they just showed me.
“The picture shocked me, yes, but I am making this face because we might have to go to war,” I admit.
Rose blinks her beautiful eyelashes at me and seems a bit lost. “War? What war?” she asks.
“There is an Alpha named Kane who thinks it was unfair for him not to be considered as a candidate for the throne. He wants to be the fifth Alpha trying to get you pregnant,” I explain.
I hear Rose’s breath catching as she raises her hand to her chest.
“The king wanted me to sleep with five men? Who is this Alpha? I’m already pregnant, so why can't he just let it go? It’s too late now.”
“He is an asshole who has nothing better to do than try and insert himself where he isn’t wanted. He’s not even king material if you ask me. Unfortunately, he’s determined to attack the palace,” I say.
“Oh, no! So what are we going to do?” Rose asks as she cradles her belly protectively.
“You’re such an idiot, brother. Why would you bring such devastating news to Rose in her condition? Don’t you know stress is bad for her?” My sister sighs and turns to Rose. “ Don’t worry sweetie, I’m sure the Alphas and the king will take care of everything. Isn’t that right, brother?” Kelly narrows her eyes at me as she puts an arm around Rose’s shoulders.
Why had I just told her all that? For someone who was trying to protect Rose, I was doing a shitty job.
“Obviously, love. You are aware that we would never permit anything to happen to you, right? The four of us are invincible against Alpha Kane. You’re safe. Don’t dwell on any of this nonsense.” I try to reassure her and soothe her, but in the back of my mind, I'm hoping my words will also comfort me.
