Mark’s words hammer around in my head for a moment as I try to process what he’s saying to me.

King Gene has sent his warriors to kill us all.

Ordinarily, I would laugh at something like that. It’s not as if Gene has any warriors I’m actually afraid of. He is a bumbling idiot who can’t even tie his own shoes, so I would seriously doubt him capable of doing anything that was going to truly harm me or my children.

But that’s just it. I look around the room and see their little faces, all of them sleeping except for Tristan’s daughter who is looking at me like I’m a snack, probably because I am to her, and that baby eats almost as much as her father, but the fact that my babies are here now, I can see them and touch them with my hands, that makes me nervous.

“Wh-what do you mean?” I ask Mark, my voice quivering with each word.

“Goddessfuckingdamnit, Mark!” Tristan says, shaking his head at the other Alpha, his hands set on his hips in fists. “Why do you have to be so fucking blunt?”

Mark’s eyes widen slightly. “She deserves to know what’s going on with our pups!”

“Sure, she deserves to know, but you don’t have to tell her like it’s the end of the fucking world!” Tristan shouts, and I know that we are all about at the end of our ropes. It’s been a stressful few days–weeks, maybe even months–and we are beginning to lose patience with one another.

Reece steps in, his tone calm as he begins to explain to me. “It’s Gene, darlin’, so we all know there’s really nothing to be too worried about. It’s only that he’s got some new guy he thinks is stronger than all of us, and he’s sending him to stir up some trouble. Believe me, just like all of Alpha King Gene’s men, this guy is no great match for us. We’ll be able to take him out with absolutely no problem. All you need to do is worry about getting some rest and feeding these pups when they start asking for mama.”

Even as Reece is speaking, Tristan’s daughter begins to fuss. I don’t like thinking of her only as his kid. She needs a name. They all do.

“Guys, before you take off, and I know it’s important that you get to Kelly as soon as you can, Eli, I think… we should name these babies.”

“We were going to leave that up to you, beautiful,” Eli says to me. I can tell he’s distracted and wants to go, and I don’t blame him. Kelly is one of my best friends, and if anything ever happened to her, I’d be beside myself. I hope she’s just lost in the woods somewhere….

“Okay,” I say, seeing that they’re all nodding at me. “Well, I would like for each baby to have a name similar to each of you so that there’s no question who their fathers are. So… I was thinking, for Tristan’s daughter, Trisha.”

“Oh, I like that,” Tristan says with a smile as he gazes down at his curly headed daughter. She’s already sucking her fist. “What do you think? Do you like Trisha?”

“Can we call her Trish for short?” Reece asks, snickering, and Tristan, who hates being called Trist, glares at him.

“No, no you may not,” he says. He scoops her up as she begins to grunt and hands her to me to feed. Tristan bends down and kisses me quickly, and I know now that this little glutton of a pup is my sweet Trisha.

As I latch her on to feed, I say, “The other girl, Reece, your daughter, I think we should call Reeva.”

“Reeva?” he repeats, his eyes beginning to glisten with tears. “I love it!” His daughter is still sleeping, but he pats her chest softly, and she sticks her tongue out.

“Eli, how about Ethan for your son?”

He nods and cracks a smile. “Yeah, that’s great. Can his middle name be Kenny, for Kelly?”

“I like that,” I tell him, thinking now they will all need middle names. Naming this many babies is hard….

“Mark, I’ve had a hard time coming up with a name that is similar to yours for your son. I know it’s not too similar, but what about… Matthew?”

“Matthew?” When he repeats the name, he doesn’t react at all, and I’m afraid he hates it.

“He’ll be the next king, right after you,” Tristan reminds the other Alpha, and he has a point. By King Gene’s decree, not only is Alpha Mark supposed to be the new king since his son was born first, his child is heir to the throne.

“Alpha King Matthew?” Mark says again. “Okay. Yeah. Let’s go with that.” He is nodding and seems to like the name, and I relax a little, glad that I have finally got names for all of my children.

“All right, you guys,” I say. “Go ahead and go save the world, but be careful.”

“Don’t worry. Reece and I will be right here,” Tristan assures me.

Reece leans over and kisses me. “We won’t let anything bad happen to you or our babies,” he says, and I believe him.

Eli comes over and kisses me deeply. “We’ll find Kelly,” he says. “I’ve already assembled my team.”

Mark is the last to kiss me, and he takes his time. It isn’t until Tristan says, “You do know my daughter is watching, right?” that Mark lets up.

Mark glares at him and then says, “I’ll be back as soon as I interrogate these traitors.” He has his Alpha face on now, and I would feel sorry for anyone who crossed his path if they didn’t deserve to be punished for what they’ve done.

As two of my men leave, the other two sit down in rocking chairs the nurses have moved in. Trisha is about full, I think, but before long, someone else will wake up and want to eat. I am amazed that my body has the power to create enough milk to feed all of my babies, but then, I had a magical body that was able to create all of these babies to begin with, so why should I be surprised.

“We did have some DNA tests done, just to be sure, and we are all right about which baby is which,” Reece explains to me.

It hadn’t even crossed my mind to do such a thing since I knew from the moment I saw each of my children’s faces who their fathers were, but that makes me happy.

Despite all of the chaos going on around me, I tilt my head back and reach for sleep. I am worried about Kelly, but that’s the only thing I’m worried about now. I know I’m safe and so are my babies.
