Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 214: I've Been Cheated

Barbara hits a giant rut in the road, and all five of us, the four babies and I, get jolted out of our seat. I hit my head on the ceiling of the shitty SUV she’s “borrowed” from King Gene.

It turns out the old king has paid her handsomely to steal and kill these babies. They are all screaming their little heads off, probably hungry, and while I did think to bring some of the pumped milk Rose had ready for them along for the ride, I can’t possibly feed all four of them at the same time with Helen Keller behind the wheel.

“Will you please be more careful?” I shout at the Luna as I brace myself for another impact. The woman can’t drive a car to save her fucking life!

“I am going fast to get away from those asshole Alphas. If you didn’t know, they are chasing us.” She turns to glare at me and only turns back to the road in time to barely avoid a large tree.

I screech. “Yes, but they’re likely on foot! We have time!”

“No, we don’t have time!” she screams at me. “We have to get away. I have their children, you fucking moron! They’re huge, muscular Alphas who will rip me apart if they catch me–and not in a fun way.”

“What’s a fun way to be ripped apart?” I ask, confused, and when I see her face, a wicked smile spreading across it as she looks dreamily into the distance, I am sorry that I asked.

She clears her throat and doesn’t answer, and I'm glad for that.

“The train station is right up here about three miles,” she explains. “King Gene has a house about thirty miles down the tracks. We’ll hop on a train, take these babies to his secluded dwelling, dispatch them there, and then, we’ll be on the lam until we can get back to the castle. King Gene has promised to protect me at all costs once I execute this task–and the babies.”

She’s back to focusing on the road, but I am thinking long and hard about what she’s just said. “He’s promised to protect you?” I repeat.

“That’s right,” she says, nonchalantly. “As he should! This is dangerous work I’m doing.”

I clear my throat, unable to hear it even myself over the sounds of all of the crying. “What about me?” I ask her.

“Oh, right. You. Well, I mean, I’m happy to have your help in keeping me safe, too. I just don’t figure you’d be much help with that. And besides, I figure you’ll be taking the money King Gene gave you and getting the hell out of here,” she says with a simple shrug.

“King Gene didn’t give me any money,” I say, my voice squeaking a bit as I try to establish exactly what’s going on here. “My deal is with you, not him.”

“He didn’t?” She’s looking at me again and not the road, and my life flashes before my eyes as I point out the windshield at a giant rock in the road, unable to speak. She turns her attention back to it, just in time to avoid catastrophe. “Well, you’ll have to take that up with him.”

“But you’re the one who contacted me and promised me payment!” I remind her, anger growing inside of me. She knows she promised to pay me. She’s just acting dumb on purpose as a way to keep from having to give me the money she said she would. I could do a lot with fifty thousand gold coins!

“Listen, Reba,” she begins.

“Retta!” I correct her.

“Right. Whatever. You’re just a little cog in this operation. You have nothing to do with anything, so you should just be happy that I chose you to help with such an important assignment.” She’s talking like I'm supposed to be grateful I just double-crossed four powerful Alphas and stole their children all because I “get” to help her!

“Oh, hell no!” I shout at her. “If you think I’m going to continue to help you with this plan without getting paid, you can kiss my ass. At this point, even if you let me keep one of the babies as payment, I wouldn’t accept. I want coins, and I want them now!”

“Keep one of the babies?” she laughs. “What in the world would make you think I’d ever consider that? Hell, no. These babies are dying. I wish I could kill them right now, but King Gene wants them killed ritualistically, as a sacrifice to the devil, so I can’t just throw them out the window to make them shut the fuck up.”

“You aren’t even listening to a damn word I’m saying!” I shout at her. “I said I want my money!”

“And I said you’ll have to take that up with King Gene!”

“No, I want it from you, and I want it now!”

She turns to hit me, her hand shifting into a wolf’s paw with long claws as she takes a swing, and I raise my arm to block her. Just then, the car swerves, hitting another deep rut, and all I can see ahead of us are long, pine-needle-covered tree branches.

I scream louder than the babies when the front of the car rams into the trunk of a giant pine tree. Glass shatters, my head slams into the dashboard, but my instinct tells me to protect the babies, even though they are meant to die.

My airbag doesn’t go off, and that’s probably a good thing for the children because they would’ve been smashed. When the car has stopped, my head is spinning, throbbing, and the crying has all but stopped.

Are they dead?

I look down at the tiny babies still in my lap, and they are covered with little pieces of glass. A couple of them have bloody scratches on their faces and hands. but they are all still breathing, their eyes wide with fear.

Then… they break out into even louder cries of distress.

“It’s okay, babies!” My head is still swimming, but I manage to get the glass off of them. None of them are hurt badly. That’s a miracle.

My eyes go to Barbara, who is quiet for the first time. The Luna’s face is buried in the airbag, and she’s not moving.

Grabbing the back of her hair, I pull her face up and see that bruises are already starting to form, and a trickle of blood is pouring from her mouth.

She’s out cold.

I can’t help but chuckle.

I switch the car off, dig through her pockets and find a coin purse full of gold, then get out of the car, which is still smoking.

It won’t be hard for the Alphas to find this. I need to hurry. And I need to ditch these babies as soon as I can. I head toward the village Barbara told me about, which isn’t far now. Maybe I can find someone to take three of the babies there.

But not the little girl with the black curls. That one is mine.

I wonder what King Gene will do to Barbara when he finds out he didn’t get his ritual….
