Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 87: Fighting Alpha Kane
*Mark*
Dusk settles over the front line of our defenses, and in the distance, we can sense the enemy standing amongst the trees in the forest. All of us are in our wolf forms now. All of us are ready to attack. We’re just waiting for the sky to transform itself fully into night so that we can operate under the cover of darkness.
It’s what wolves do best.
Thankfully, since we are all Alphas, I can mind-link with the others in my party that I am sure are equally as worried about Rose. Having left her there in the castle with Reece, I am not quite as concerned as I would be if she were completely alone, but still, something inside of me says this won’t be good, and we are not as close to the castle as I would like to be.
Though, I am also glad that the battle is unfolding several miles away from where Rose and our babies are staying. If the battle were any closer, I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on the enemy. I’d be too busy looking behind me to make sure she’s safe.
“It won’t be long now,” Tristan says from his position to my right. He has his best warriors with him, as do I. Eli is far to the left of me, and Reece’s men are in between us. They are under the command of his Beta, Wessley, though none of them know why. They didn’t question their Alpha’s thinking, though. They just prepared for battle as they always did.
“It won’t be long,” I agree with Tristan, and I am ready for this fight. I am ready to rip into Alpha Kane’s forces, to tear their throats out with my very teeth. How dare he think that he can come in here and threaten the woman I love?
With the fall of night, we begin to creep forward through the woods. I stay in front of my men, not sure what we will see when we come into contact with Alpha Kane and his warriors, but I’m sure the other Alpha has his own network of allies standing against us.
It won’t be easy.
As I lead my warriors through the woods, I glance over and see a familiar wolf commanding the troops to my left, and I freeze for a moment.
What the hell is Reece doing here?
I catch his eye, and his wolf sort of shrugs.
“Why are you here?” I ask him. “What about Rose?”
“Well, we had an issue,” he explains. “Don’t worry. Beta Adam is taking care of her.” He is using the mind-link to explain to all of us Alphas at once.
“But… is she safe?” I ask him.
“Yes, yes. Adam, Kelly, and Shelby won’t let anything happen to her. Emily saw me and had the king coming to check on me. Thankfully, I got away in time. I couldn’t risk him recognizing me.” His explanation doesn’t quite answer all of my questions, but a fierce howl pierces through the night as every wolf in front of us seems to join in the haunting melody.
All of a sudden, we are under attack.
I don’t stand by and wait for Alpha Kane’s wolves to close in on me. Instead, I give the command for my warriors to surge forward and meet them as they come over a slight rise in the ground in front of us. We trample the forest floor, moving quickly, and then, we collide with the enemy in a thunderous boom that rocks the forest around us.
I make short work of the first son of a bitch I tangle with, flipping him over onto his back and ripping his jugular from his neck like he’s nothing more than a newborn pup. Then, I move on to another and another.
By the time I reach my fourth wolf, blood coats my tongue and teeth. I can taste the metallic, sticky substance all the way down the back of my throat. Little tufts of fur are embedded into it, and normally that would make me choke a bit, but I’m still after the enemy, and I’m not about to let a few bites of the vanquished slow me down.
I move forward, and in the distance, I see him…. A large silver, gray wolf with blood dripping from his canines as he prowls through the woods, looking for another enemy to tear apart.
“Kane,” I say to myself as my gums curl back in a sneer. A low growl emits from the back of my throat, and immediately, my paws carry me toward him. I dodge around other wolves who would like to have a piece of me, but they aren’t fast enough, and soon, I find myself staring right into Kane’s eyes.
“Well, if it isn’t Alpha Mark,” he says, glaring right back at me. “We meet again.”
“I’m going to rip your head off, you asshole,” I tell him, bending at the knee so that I can launch my attack.
“I’d like to see you try, you pathetic fuuu—”
He doesn’t get the rest of his sentence out as a large dark wolf plows into him from the right, knocking him against a tree, hard with a lot of force behind it.
“What the hell?” I ask, trying to figure out what’s happened.
Then I recognize the wolf, and it all becomes clear.
“Tristan!”
Before Tristan can explain himself, a bunch of other wolves from Kane’s side are upon us, here to defend their leader. They knock Tristan backward, six of them against only one of him, which gives Kane a chance to stumble to his feet.
I want to get at him, to finish what I’ve started, but now there are several of his wolves on me, and I have to fight them off just to stay alive.
It’s not as difficult as it might seem, though there are five of them and only one of me, but they aren’t as fast, and their fighting skills aren’t as prominent either. I grab the smallest one by the neck and use him as a club to knock the others down. Then, I rip his throat out and move on to the next one as he’s starting to get up. As I tear into the third, my men catch up with me from behind, and that spooks the final two into running away.
“Well, that didn’t go as planned,” Tristan remarks through the mind-link, shaking his head. His shoulder is bleeding a little, but he’s taken out all of Kane’s men that attacked him.
“Why the hell did you interrupt me?” I ask, stomping over to him. It seems clear now that Kane’s men are losing severely, and as wave after wave of our warriors rush around us, chasing them down, I can’t help but question my Alpha friend.
“What do you mean? I was giving him the ol’ one-two.”
“The ol’ one-two?” I question, having no idea what the fuck he’s talking about–as usual.
“Yeah, you distract him–that’s one. And I come in and rip his head off. That’s two,” he replies.
I shake my head at him. “That was not what I had in mind,” I tell him. “And it didn’t work.”
“Well, let’s go get him and give him the ol’ one, two, three,” Tristan suggests.
I don’t bother to ask what that is.
As the two of us start to run forward, I hear Eli’s voice in my head, and he’s frantic. Tristan stops short as well, and I know Eli is talking to both of us.
“Guys! We have to get back to the castle right away!” Eli is shouting. “It’s Rose!”
My heart leaps into my chest, and I feel all of the blood leaving my head. I can no longer think straight as my heart races and my breathing becomes shallow. “What is it?” I ask, turning around to head to where I last saw Eli on the battlefield. Tristan comes with me. The battle is tilting so far in our favor now, we don’t need to worry about Kane. I send a message to my Beta to keep pushing Kane’s forces back.
“I don’t know exactly,” Eli says as his red wolf comes into view ahead of me. “But Kelly just said to hurry back. Emily is up to something. She knows that we’re all gone.”
“Did she try to hurt Rose?” Reece asks as he appears from behind a pine tree on my right.
Eli is quiet for a moment, and I assume he’s talking to his sister. When he looks up at us, his eyes are wide. “Oh, Goddess. It’s… Morris!”
“Morris?” I repeat. “But we ran him off. He went home.”
“Does that little bitch seriously want my magic wand up his ass that bad that he came back?” Tristan growls.
“I don’t know,” Eli admits. “Kelly just said Morris is there. Something about a knife!”
That’s all I need to hear. I turn around and run back toward the castle as fast as I can go, knowing the other Alphas are on my heels.
I don’t care about the war. I don’t care about being the next king. I don’t care about anything else in the world except for Rose and our babies.
If anything ever happens to any of them… there will be hell to pay.
