Pregnant With Four Alphas' Babies: A Reverse Harem Romance Chapter 55: A Future Written in the Sand
*Eli*
Ever since talking to the king, we are all worried. The war is imminent, and we will have to fight to save the kingdom.
I know we are all worried about Rose and how she will fare if the kingdom is to be attacked. She is carrying four children, and for all we know, the children could belong to each of us. Even if they don’t, we will all do everything in our power to protect the woman we have all come to care about so much.
“If we are to go to war, which of the units do you suggest should take the front line?” Reece asks.
I put my legs on top of the table and wait for someone else to respond. The four of us are all sitting in my room as we try to make plans about the pending war. A bottle of King Gene’s wine is being shared amongst us, and the brown liquid isn’t doing much to take care of the nerves.
“I think we should have taken a bottle of whisky instead, this is too weak for the set task,’’ Tristan says. I nod my head in agreement.
“If we were to go and fight, the royal soldiers would be the ones to take the front line. I would station myself at the back or in the middle,” I declare.
Reece frowns as he regards me. “I’ve never thought of you as a coward, bro.”
I shift trying to get my feet comfortable on the table and cross my arms over my chest. “I am only thinking about Rose and the children.”
Reece’s frown deepens. “I thought we all would die for Rose, not hide from fighting for her.”
“I would rather live for Rose. If I am dead, I am useless to her,” I answer plainly.
Tristan nods as he scratches his chin. “That’s a great point, man. Rose needs us alive and not dead. If we are to go fight and die, she will be left alone. Emily will just snatch the babies and keep them for herself.”
I chuckle. “Can you imagine children raised by Emily? What type of teachings would she instill in the poor kids? Can you imagine four Emily clones?”
“They wouldn’t be her clones, mate. They are not her biological children and will not look like her,” Mark says.
“Tomato-tomahto… all I am saying is they will act like her. You know exactly what I am trying to say, smart mouth,” I counter.
“Is there a way to avoid us going to war, then?” Tristan asks.
“We will live for Rose, but I think we would actually have to fight,” Mark states.
“Of course, we would have to fight to keep Rose. I am just worried about dying and leaving her without any protection. With us gone, who will take care of her?” I throw out there.
“That’s a scary thought. I wouldn’t want to leave her alone, not now when she is pregnant and needs us,” Reece says, a look of worry on his face. He stands up and refills all our glasses.
Mark watches with a stern look on his face. I am not sure what he is thinking, but I do know he is always ready to protect those he cares about with his last drop of blood.
As I take a sip of my wine, I can’t help but imagine Kane defeating us and taking over the kingdom and Rose.
“Let’s suppose we lose this war and Kane takes over. What do you think he will do to Rose?” I ponder aloud.
Tristan starts choking on his wine and starts coughing. “What do you mean lose? Where are all those negative thoughts coming from? There is no room for error here. We will need to win.”
“What if we don’t? Do you have plans in place for what will happen then? Do you think perhaps we should choose godparents in case something should happen to us?” I suggest.
“I think that is unnecessary, nothing is going to happen to us. Kane can never defeat all of us,’ Mark says confidently.
“I appreciate the positivity and all that, but I won’t blindly go to war and leave everything to chance. We need to think ahead and look at all possibilities. We have to stop thinking like a bunch of bachelors now; a woman is carrying our children. Fathers plan and make plans for the future to protect their families even in their absence,” I retort.
“Adam and Shelby would make sure nothing would happen to Rose and the babies,” Reece adds.
“Umm, but are they competent enough to keep Kane away from Rose? If the four of us fail at stopping Kane, how would the two of them prevail? I mean, the four of us combined are stronger than the two of them. I have no doubt Shelby can pack a mean punch and throw some harsh words. However, words and a slap will not be enough to stop Kane and protect Rose and our babies,” I point out.
“There is also Kelly, so that makes three of them,” Reece says.
“What would Kelly do? Scare Kane away with a mascara brush, and blow face powder and eyeshadow into his eyes?”
I growl at Tristan. “Watch it, bro. That’s my sister you are talking about. She is stronger than you give her credit for.”
“I’m sorry, man. I didn’t mean it like that. The thought of failing to protect Rose has me a bit shaken. I know Kelly is a badass.”
I smile dryly at him. “When we were younger, Kelly used to fight off bullies for me. She might look all girly and shit, but you should be afraid of that woman. She once beat up a guy twice her size with only her purse and a stiletto.”
“Huh, a stiletto is a weapon, bro. I think it’s a well-kept secret among women that those things were invented as secret weapons under the guise of fashion. I once told a lady that I would love to taste some of her melons and she knocked me over the head with a stiletto. I saw the moon goddess herself at that moment,” Tristan tells.
“Tristan, Tristan. That was rude of you. Why would you tell a woman you want to taste her melons?” I ask.
“They looked big, juicy and delicious. I had never seen melons of that size, so I told her I would love to taste them. Her husband also found my statement offensive which was confusing as hell,” Tristan answers and we all glare at him.
“You told a married woman, in front of her husband, that you wanted to taste her melons?” Reece asks.
“Was I supposed to tell her in secret? I am sure he too knew that the melons were sweet, it wasn’t a secret. Was I supposed to pull her away to somewhere private to ask such an innocent question?”
“If I thought you were crazy before, now there is no doubt in my head.”
Tristan looks at us with pure confusion.
“Doesn’t everyone eat melons? I love sweet melons. If it is so wrong to eat melons, why do they sell them to the public at the market? Why not sell them in secret then like some illegal drugs?”
Just then we all burst out laughing.
“You should be specific, man. You mean actual melons?” I ask in between laughs.
“What other melons did you think I was referring to?”
“The kind that woman and her husband thought you were referring to. The forbidden kind,” I say.
“You idiots have such a dirty mind. The two were farmers and selling melons. What else was I to call them?”
We all shrug and laugh. That must have been such a misunderstanding.
“Granted the woman had large breasts, but I honestly was talking about actual melons. She was a married woman, who do you take me for?”
“You are Tristan, we can never put anything past you,” Reece reasons and we agree with him.
Tristan chuckled and waved his hand in mock surrender before taking a sip of his drink.
“So where are we on putting our ducks in a row for Rose’s safety before going to war with Kane? We can go and fight to make sure she is safe, but we need to have a backup plan in place,” I urge.
“I care about Rose, but I think you all are losing the big picture here. This fight isn’t just to protect Rose, but also the Kingdom. As future kings, I think you all have to get your priorities straight,” Mark says and puts his glass onto the table with great force.
