The whole party was actually pretty dull for all of us.

The room was filled with the clinking of glasses, the rustle of elegant dresses, and lively chatter.

I saw quite a few business partners there.

Everything was going as I had planned. I had pleasant conversations with them and intended to keep in touch for future projects.

But I couldn't stop thinking about what had just happened.

Joanna's departure left a subtle sadness on everyone's face.

If it weren't for the fact that we had to stay for Kathy, I would have taken Royce and left too.

Talking to Joanna had drained all my energy for the day. I just wanted to go home and sleep, forget about everything.

The day of the private event was uneventful until a surprise guest showed up in the afternoon.

Aurelia walked into the venue, scanning the room before heading straight for me.

"Caroline, long time no see."

The moment I saw Aurelia, my internal alarm went off. "What are you doing here?"

I quickly glanced over at Isadora, who was not far away.

I was worried that if Isadora saw Aurelia, it would cause a scene.

Aurelia followed my gaze and noticed Isadora. She smiled and said, "Do you think I should go say hi?"

Her fake politeness irritated me. "Please don't. I don't want you upsetting her."

"Why would I? I heard Isadora recently had a baby and is looking great. She shouldn't be holding onto old grudges, right?"

Aurelia's smile was mocking.

I couldn't stand it anymore and turned to leave, but she blocked my way.

"Honestly, I'm here to talk to you about something."

I looked at Aurelia, puzzled about what she could possibly want to discuss.

But Isadora was already turning our way, so I quickly pulled Aurelia into a side hallway.

I gave Royce a look as I did.

Royce's expression changed slightly when he saw Aurelia, but he let me handle it.

I let go of Aurelia's hand once we were in the hallway.

"Alright, what do you want?"

Aurelia shook her head at my disdainful look. "Caroline, looking at me like that makes me a bit sad."

"We're both women. Drop the act. These tricks might work on men, but not on me."

This was the woman who had an affair with Alfonso and drove someone to their death...

I had no sympathy for her.

Aurelia's face changed slightly at my words, but she quickly composed herself.

She casually said, "Recently, I've heard Alfonso talking about competing with your company and working on some bidding project. I heard it didn't go through, but he's been busy again. I wanted to know if you knew what he's up to."

She was asking me for information about Alfonso?

I found it amusing. "What are you trying to find out? What do you want to hear from me?"

"I don't have any specific intentions. I just know Alfonso came to your company a few days ago."

Aurelia's eyes were on me, trying to read me.

"I want to know what he said to you and what he's been up to. He won't tell me anything... I just know something's off with him lately."

Aurelia was trying to get information from me.

I thought about it. Alfonso hadn't been particularly open with me either. Most of what I knew about him came from Royce and his investigations.

So I shook my head. "Alfonso is your husband. You should know his moves better than anyone. You've had him followed and know he came to see me, yet you don't know what he's been up to?"

Sensing Aurelia's frustration, I took the opportunity to mock her.

A woman who couldn't keep track of her partner's whereabouts must be feeling pretty humiliated.

Sure enough, she gritted her teeth. "I'm asking you because he came to see you! You don't need to mock me!"

"He came to see me for business. He wasn't over that project. Is that enough for you?"

Aurelia snapped, "It can't be just that! You two must have other connections! Why else would he be traveling so much lately?"

"Is one project worth all that effort?"

Other connections? Traveling?

I stared at her, realizing this was my chance to get information from her.

"Alfonso did contact me about that bidding project, but he had some leverage over me, so I didn't work with him."

Aurelia quickly asked, "I knew you two had private dealings! What leverage does he have over you?"

She didn't know about the child.

It seemed Alfonso had kept everything secret, even from his wife.

If he could hide things from her, it meant they weren't just business partners.

In fact, Aurelia might be excluded from Alfonso's plans.

I thought for a moment and said, "I can't tell you the details. You probably know but are pretending not to."

"I don't..."

Aurelia's eyes darted around, realizing I was trying to get information from her. She suddenly got anxious.

"Forget it. Asking you is pointless."

I shrugged. "Glad you understand."

Aurelia left after a while.

But during our conversation, I had already sent a message to Simon.

Simon replied that he would look into it.

At least I knew Alfonso was up to something.

Just then, my company called.

"Ms. Sharp, where are you? The company received a lot of flowers for you today, congratulating you on the upcoming anniversary."

Flowers?

My first thought was to look at Royce.

Royce was holding a drink, chatting with someone. Most of the men were talking business.

"Just put them in my office," I told my assistant and hung up. Royce had come over. "What were you talking about?"

Since Joanna's incident, he seemed particularly concerned about me.

I told him about the flowers.

"Did you think they were from me?" Royce laughed. "I'll send you flowers tomorrow."
