Husband plans to kill me Chapter 367
I shook my head. "It's not like that. You've got people looking into it over there. Any info you can share would really help me get ready on my end."
But if there was no news for a while, I would start to worry that this task was too tough and might be causing trouble for Royce.
I added, "If there's no news for a while, I'll feel like I'm just bothering you all with something that might not even have any leads..."
Royce squeezed my hand and said seriously, "Even if it's the hardest task and we have no leads, I won't give up on helping you. Don't ever think like that again."
With that, he made another call to Simon.
Royce mentioned that now that Leo had officially brought Briar to the city, it would be easier to investigate.
He asked Simon to keep a closer eye on things for me.
As they talked on the phone, I couldn't help but think about how Leo looked earlier. He seemed more worn out compared to the last time we met.
And he kept giving me this look like he wanted to say something but couldn't because Royce was there.
Thinking about it, I decided I should find some time to talk to Leo alone.
Leo was quite cunning, actually.
I could tell just by how he treated Briar.
He definitely wouldn't say much in front of me, but if I didn't meet him alone, I wouldn't get any chance at all.
So, I reached out to Kathy.
She was still in Oceancrest City, saying there were several new design exhibitions she wanted to check out.
It was a rare break for her, and I didn't want to keep bothering her.
But the urgency of the situation...
I kept apologizing to Kathy over the phone.
Kathy, always straightforward, said, "Caroline, if you keep apologizing, I'm going to cut ties with you! I've told you before, we saved each other's lives. You can't be so polite!"
I couldn't help but laugh. "Got it... I just know how busy you are with work."
"No matter how busy I am, I have time to help you investigate. Don't worry. Even if I can't find solid evidence, I'll send you screenshots of Aurelia's activities."
I felt reassured and reminded Kathy to focus on her work in Oceancrest City.
The next morning, Royce and I were in the office discussing the details of the anniversary celebration.
I had almost forgotten about it since the incident with the bugged bouquet.
It was Kelly who reminded me, talking about how Gerald founded the company and how we should make the anniversary a big deal.
Just then, a message from Kathy came in.
I picked up my phone and saw several photos and a short message from Kathy.
Kathy: [Caroline, Aurelia has been frequently visiting a new private club. It seems to be connected to Alfonso. Be careful.]
I frowned and opened the photos.
In the pictures, Aurelia was wearing a black dress, holding a glass of red wine, and talking to a man.
Her lips were moving, but I couldn't tell what she was saying.
Even though the photos were a bit blurry, I recognized Alfonso immediately.
He had that same inscrutable smile, as if everything was under his control.
It was the same look he had when he threatened me with my child.
"What's up?" Royce noticed my change in demeanor and put down his papers to come over.
I handed him the phone, my tone serious. "Kathy sent this. Aurelia's been pretty high-profile with Alfonso lately. I think they might be planning something."
Royce examined the photos, his brow furrowing slightly. "Alfonso is always a tricky one. His recent actions have been unusual. We need to be careful."
I nodded, feeling a growing sense of unease.
Alfonso had a complicated background and had tried multiple times to interfere with our business, even competing with Asher.
He had even used my child as leverage.
Though he didn't succeed, it was infuriating.
Not to mention the whole NexGen Innovations fiasco, which was absurd.
Even though he got away, we all knew he was involved.
Now, with him and Aurelia being so high-profile, it was hard not to suspect they were plotting something.
What worried me more was that Aurelia had stopped frequenting that restaurant.
Just then, there was a knock on the office door.
"Come in," I said.
Asher walked in, holding a file, looking excited. "Caroline! Harold has some news."
I immediately looked up. "What did he find?"
Asher handed me the papers, his tone urgent.
"Harold found that Alfonso has recently registered several new companies. On the surface, they seem like normal business ventures, but their operations overlap heavily with ours... It feels like deliberate unfair competition!"
He couldn't help but curse. "I knew that bastard wouldn't stay quiet! We've barely made progress on our project, and Alfonso is already pulling these stunts."
I quickly scanned the file.
Sure enough, Alfonso had been busy, registering four companies in just a month!
And their business areas almost entirely overlapped with ours.
What was more concerning was that these companies were all located in the same area, clearly a calculated move.
Asher asked, "Why is Alfonso always targeting us?"
I closed the file and took a deep breath. "He's trying to distract us with these small companies and gradually eat into our market share."
Even if these small companies didn't take off, it was already a nuisance.
Royce nodded, his tone calm. "His goal is clear. He wants to use these small companies to divert our attention and then make a big move during our anniversary celebration."
Last time, he sent those flowers under the guise of the anniversary.
Alfonso seemed more invested in our anniversary than I was!
I frowned, feeling a growing sense of unease.
The anniversary was one of the most important events for our company.
Especially after Brandon was ousted, I wanted to make this anniversary special.
It was also a way to honor Gerald's memory.
If Alfonso planned to make a move during this time, we needed to be prepared.
"I'll contact Simon and Savannah right away and have them come over." I quickly made a decision. "We need to discuss our strategy."
Asher left the office, saying he was going to find Harold, the hacker, to dig up more information.
