Husband plans to kill me Chapter 346
Royce told me he and Brett shared a tent last night, and he brought up that incident in the alley where we almost got into trouble.
He was trying to comfort Brett and help him process his feelings about it, but Brett was just blaming himself!
Brett said everything happened so fast, and he felt too young to protect me. When I pushed him away, he really didn't want to go; he wanted to stay and face it with me.
But he knew he had to listen to me and be a good kid because, in that moment, I was protecting him.
Hearing this made my eyes well up with tears. "I know that's how he feels because he's been so wrapped up in those emotions these past few days."
Then I remembered I hadn't told Royce about Brett's sleep-talking that night. "You know... I actually heard him talking in his sleep that night..."
I told Royce everything Brett had said.
By the end, I was sobbing uncontrollably. "What kind of terrible mother am I, that Brett feels he has to protect me even in his dreams?"
Royce kissed my forehead and handed me a tissue to wipe my tears.
"Don't think like that. Brett does this because he feels grown-up enough to protect you, and it shows how strong your bond is. It means you've raised him to be a responsible and caring kid."
"You should be proud that despite everything, you've managed to keep control and not let the kids end up with Brandon."
With Royce's comforting words, I gradually calmed down. "You're right, I've handled this pretty well."
He said, "So have confidence in yourself, and don't always blame yourself for everything."
We leaned against the couch and talked for a long time until Kelly and Zola came back, carrying bags of groceries. They looked relieved to see Royce still there.
"I was worried Royce might have left... Let's have lunch together today. Zola and I bought a lot of fresh ingredients, and we're waiting for you to join us!"
I thought Royce might decline since he had been busy and had already taken time to camp with us yesterday. But to my surprise, he eagerly agreed.
"Of course, I'd love to. I've missed your cooking; it's been a while since I had your food."
I knew Royce and Kelly had a good relationship, but hearing them talk so warmly made me feel emotional.
I remembered those years I was locked away, and Royce took on the responsibility of visiting Kelly from time to time.
In that sense, I felt quite guilty because I didn't seem like a very dutiful daughter in comparison.
But we had a wonderful meal together, and Brett was happily sitting next to Royce, clearly very fond of him.
After lunch, Royce finally left.
The next morning, he came to pick me up for work, but I got a call from Kathy on the way. "Hey, did you leave something at my place?"
Kathy was always a bit scatterbrained, and she had left things at my place a few times before when I drove her home.
"No, no... This time I packed my bags really well, nothing's left behind." Kathy said, "I called because I heard some news. You met with Aurelia recently, right? Since you two talked, I thought I should tell you."
Hearing Aurelia's name, I perked up. "What did you find out? What's going on with her and Alfonso?"
"Well, it's not directly about them, but it might be related. I heard Aurelia went on a trip to another city recently and hasn't been in touch with Alfonso."
She continued, "They were inseparable before, always showing off their relationship. How could Aurelia suddenly leave? And she's supposed to be gone for a while, like half a month or more... Their friends said they're planning to travel to several places this year, and this is just the first stop."
I frowned, thinking that with Aurelia's ambition to secure her position, it didn't make sense for her to leave Alfonso at this critical time.
Especially since she had come to my office a few days ago, questioning me about Alfonso and our private meetings.
"There's definitely something off here. She's always so concerned about Alfonso and her status... There's no way she'd just go on a trip with friends. Something must have happened between them!"
Kathy said loudly, "I think so too, but we can't find out much right now. So I thought I'd let you know. Maybe you have some ideas? Simon is really tied up at the moment, and I was hoping he could follow her."
"Got it. I'll find someone to handle this."
After hanging up, I frantically searched my phone for anyone who could follow Aurelia and see what she was up to in the other city.
If this trip was something she and Alfonso planned together, it would make sense.
Royce saw me scrambling and couldn't help but ask, "What are you doing?"
I remembered Royce had mentioned finding people to investigate these things for us, so I quickly asked, "Do you have anyone available right now? Someone who can leave immediately for a tracking mission in another city?"
A few minutes later, Royce hung up the phone. "It's all set. As soon as we get her flight details, they'll start tracking her."
I was thrilled. "That's great!"
Finally, there was some progress. I felt energized.
Aurelia and Alfonso were closely linked, so we could at least get some clues about them. As for the rest, we'd investigate step by step!
I also had a hunch that Aurelia's trip might be connected to the people who had been taken before.
Otherwise, she wouldn't suddenly leave for a "vacation"!
That morning was destined to be eventful. As soon as I got to the office, I received a call from Isadora. She asked if I was free and said she was waiting for me at a nearby café.
I was surprised that Isadora had come to see me. I quickly told Madeline and rushed out to meet her at a café called "Yesterday."
When she saw me, she waved eagerly. "Caroline."
