Husband plans to kill me Chapter 311
I said, "Hey, can you handle this investigation? You're the expert here, and you're way better at organizing stuff. If you leave it to me, I won't be able to manage it with all the work I have at the company. I really don't know what to do."
Simon chuckled, "I'm not asking you to solve it. Just keeping you in the loop. It's definitely better for me to handle the investigation."
I shrugged and looked over at Savannah.
"You guys have helped me a ton these past few days. Once this is all over, I owe you big time."
"Don't sweat it. We're all in this together. Plus, you've done a lot to take down the Jordan family crime ring!"
Simon put away the documents and then showed interest in the flower-shaped bug we found in the office. He asked a few questions and took a look around.
He told us that the bug wouldn't cause much trouble. It would run out of battery in a few days, so we just needed to be cautious and not worry too much.
I nodded, "Got it."
Simon and Savannah then discussed the bug a bit more. They both had some knowledge in this area, and their professions made them quite compatible.
I couldn't follow their conversation, so after seeing Simon off, I turned to Savannah and winked, "Have you figured out how to respond to that guy yet?"
Savannah gave me a playful shove, "Why are you still thinking about that?"
"Of course I am! You've never been in a relationship before. As your older friend, I should give you some advice."
Savannah's cheeks turned as red as apples, and her tone softened, "Caroline, you're not old at all. Don't say that about yourself."
I laughed heartily, "I don't think I'm old. I'm just saying. Anyway, if you have any questions about relationships, feel free to ask me."
Savannah nodded vigorously, "I will."
The day passed at the office without any unusual incidents.
Asher didn't come by today. He said his team had to rush a project, so he wouldn't be able to visit for a while.
He hesitated on the phone and asked about the bug. I told him, "It's fine. We'll talk about it next time."
After hanging up, I messaged him, saying not to worry about it for now. We could use it to our advantage and catch them off guard.
What's the big deal?
NexGen Innovations just issued a notice. They haven't even started the project yet. Even if they did, it wouldn't be in direct competition with us.
It's Alfonso that's the real problem!
First, he kidnapped my child, then demanded I give him the bidding project, and later we found out he had connections with Maeve...
Who knows what other secrets these people are hiding!
Thinking about it made me uneasy. When Royce came to pick me up after work, I quickly told him what happened today.
Royce seemed a bit distracted, unlike his usual self. He listened to me in a somewhat absent-minded manner.
I found it odd, "What's wrong? Trouble at work?"
"No."
Royce turned to me, "The company has some issues to deal with, just like you."
"Company?"
My memory seemed a bit fuzzy, "Aren't you like Simon..."
"Wasn't he a cop? Why's he talking about a company and business?"
Royce looked at me for a moment, then frowned, "Caroline, did you really think I was a cop?"
"Didn't you and Simon say that last time?"
When Kathy was kidnapped, Simon and Royce helped rescue her. We talked about it in the car, and that's what they said.
Though I always had my doubts.
When I reunited with Royce, I heard he was in business. How did his identity change suddenly?
Royce laughed, staring at me for a long time before starting the car. He reached over and pinched my cheek.
"Caroline, sometimes you're as naive as a kid, you know that?"
"No, I'm not..." I covered my face, feeling a bit embarrassed, "I just believe what you say."
But saying that seemed to prove his point.
Royce gave me a meaningful smile and finally said, "I was joking to lighten the mood back then. I didn't think you'd actually believe it."
"Have you ever seen a cop who can pick you up and drop you off every day? And when I meet with Simon, we don't talk about work. I've always been busy with business..."
All signs pointed to Royce being a businessman!
I suddenly understood, "So that's how it is."
"I was just too worried about Kathy at the time. I didn't hear what you were saying clearly."
I frowned slightly, "And you didn't explain it to me all this time! You had me completely fooled."
I pouted.
No matter what, he was definitely responsible for this!
Royce laughed, "Alright, I should have explained it sooner. I just didn't think you'd believe it."
"I've just been too busy lately to keep up with everything."
Royce drove me home. In the car, he listened to my plan to use the situation to our advantage and couldn't help but praise my cleverness.
Under Royce's compliments, I felt a bit smug, "Stop praising me all the time. I'm really not that special."
"No, to me, you're already amazing. Caroline, never underestimate yourself."
Royce took my hand and gently kissed the back of it.
"You always deserve the best, you know? Like the flowers you receive. So don't worry about spending my money."
I remembered how I had told Royce to save money before and felt embarrassed, "From now on, I'll let you spend on me! I thought you didn't have much money and wanted to save for you!"
"What's mine is yours. Spend as you like," Royce said seriously.
As I got out of the car, I thought about what Simon and Savannah said about the mysterious person using the red spider lily as an avatar, and my heart started to worry again.
"How powerful do you think the person using the red spider lily avatar is?"
So far, everything was still a mystery!
I thought divorcing Brandon would be the end, but now everything was still shrouded in fog.
It felt like I was lost in a thick mist, unable to find my way or know what to do.
"We know they have significant influence, but there's no need to worry. Because of their background, they won't act rashly. As long as we have time to breathe, we can come up with a response."
Royce ruffled my hair, the warmth of his hand comforting me.
"Don't be afraid."
