Husband plans to kill me Chapter 361
Brandon said, "You think you're better than me? Don't kid yourself. You've done just as many messed-up things."
With that, Lowell yanked him away.
Royce wanted to say more, but the moment had passed. He turned to me, gripping my shoulders and looking at me intently. "You okay?"
I shook my head. "What about you? Did he hurt you?"
When Lowell came over to pull Brandon away, it seemed like he might have bumped into Royce.
Royce shook his head. "I dodged quickly. Don't worry. Besides, we're right outside the police station. They wouldn't dare touch me."
Sure enough, I saw the two of them being stopped by a cop a short distance away, who seemed to be giving them a talking-to.
Probably a stern warning, considering how they looked like they were about to start a fight...
I breathed a sigh of relief and pulled Royce over to the car parked by the curb.
Once inside, Royce didn't start the car right away. He sat in the driver's seat, silent.
A sense of unease crept over me, but I didn't know how to break the silence. I pulled out my phone to check my messages.
Savannah and Kathy had texted me. Somehow, they already knew about Brandon's provocations and his lurking around the office.
Savannah said that next time she saw Brandon, she'd give him a good beating, one that wouldn't leave any marks for the police to find. A proper lesson.
I couldn't help but smile at that.
Then I heard Royce's voice from beside me. "You can still smile at a time like this?"
I turned to see Royce looking at me.
Thinking back to the confrontation between Royce and Brandon, and considering Royce's current ambiguous status...
And what Brandon had said!
I felt a pang of guilt. "Are you mad?"
Royce let out a small huff and turned away, refusing to look at me.
I knew he was giving me a chance to make it up to him. "It was my fault for not stepping in sooner... I didn't expect him to say those things..."
I looked down at my hands, still holding my phone, which I had locked. I didn't dare do anything else in front of Royce, so I spoke carefully. "I didn't expect him to say those things about me, really. We haven't done anything wrong. We're in the right, so next time you see him, just tell him off."
But Royce shook his head. "Caroline, maybe you think we're just friends reuniting, but from the moment I saw you again, I've wanted to win you back. I feel guilty. If Brandon uses that against you or me, I don't have the confidence to argue with him."
Brandon's infidelity was his problem, but Royce didn't want our relationship to be tainted by moral judgment.
Royce's sudden confession left me stunned. I couldn't help but look at him.
In the car, Royce's gaze was gentle yet intense as he looked at me.
I remembered our reunion, back when I had just returned home.
Back then, I was still married, even though the marriage was falling apart. Royce's words caught me off guard.
Royce sighed deeply.
He didn't continue the topic, instead saying, "If anything happens, come to me first. I'll go to the police station with you. Handling it alone, you might get a hard time, and having me there will make things easier."
I nodded, but I still felt a bit sad.
Royce had done so much for me, yet I couldn't even give him a proper status, leaving him at a disadvantage when facing Brandon.
Thinking of this, I suddenly said, "How about we make it official today?"
I felt a bit embarrassed after blurting that out and rubbed my nose.
I always thought our relationship would develop naturally, with an unspoken understanding between us. I didn't expect to be the one to bring it up.
Royce was clearly taken aback. He was about to start the car but turned to look at me. "What did you just say?"
"I know you heard me. Don't pretend you didn't..." I felt a bit helpless.
Royce's reaction was expected. He'd pretend not to hear and then ask me to confirm.
So I said, "Don't worry, you heard right. I said let's make it official."
"You mentioned making it official before. I remember clearly, there's still twenty days left."
I was surprised. It felt like just yesterday we talked about making it official in a month. Had ten days already passed?
Royce seemed to read my thoughts and said seriously, "You're not going to back out now, are you? You just said it..."
"Do you think I'm that fickle?" I couldn't help but laugh. "I said I'd make it official, so I will. From today, you're officially my boyfriend. Next time they come looking for trouble, you can tell them off as my boyfriend, okay?"
This not only gave Royce confidence but also made me feel better.
For so long, our undefined relationship made me hesitant to show my true feelings to Royce. But now, I wasn't afraid anymore.
If we were meant to face everything together, I believed it was worth it, even if it was tough at first.
"From today, you're my boyfriend. You have to be there whenever I need you, and you have to give me gifts from time to time. I want to be like those young couples, getting bubble tea and cakes every now and then..."
To ease the awkwardness, I said a bunch of things I never thought I'd say.
I expected Royce to be distracted by my demands, but he listened seriously and said, "Okay."
"You agreed so easily?"
Royce's quick agreement actually surprised me.
My requests were childish, more like something a twenty-something girl would ask for.
It wasn't that I had a negative view of it, but I felt I had missed the time for youthful, passionate love.
If I were in my early twenties, I might have made these demands of Royce.
Thinking of this, I felt a bit down. "We've missed so many years."
