Husband plans to kill me Chapter 344
Brett said, "No way it's the same cartoon. It just looks kinda similar. But yeah, it's weird Briar's talking to this person, and I get why Mom's freaked out."
After a moment, Royce suddenly asked, "So, what does the flower in the skull's mouth look like? Brett, can you describe it?"
Hearing Royce's question, I tensed up, wondering if the flower had anything to do with red spider lilies.
I turned to look at Brett.
"I can't really describe it well. The flower doesn't look normal. It's like... half and half, with petals that look like strings all connected together..."
Hearing Brett's description, a chill ran down my spine. It sounded a lot like the red spider lilies!
The red spider lilies also had petals that look like strings, forming a flower.
Royce and I exchanged a glance.
Even though the weather was nice today, I suddenly felt a cold shiver.
I wasn't sure if it was because Brett saw this person's profile picture that scared me, or because Briar was still in contact with this person...
Quickly, I decided to change the subject.
"By the way, Brett, did you have fun these past few days? Nothing bad happened, right?"
And since he got to play with Briar, I figured Brett must have been really happy.
Sure enough, Brett exclaimed, "I loved this spring trip! I shared the snacks I brought with Briar and others... They all said I have good taste in snacks. If I get another chance, I'll bring even more of my favorite snacks to share with them!"
At such a young age, he already knew how to share. I couldn't help but ruffle his hair. "It's great that you have such a kind heart."
But who knew when the next camping trip or spring outing would be?
Even though we adults had a good chat this time, I felt a bit guilty that Brett ended up helping me investigate Briar without me even realizing it.
Back home, I took Brett's hand and led him to his room. I couldn't help but say, "I didn't plan well this time, and I didn't know Leo would bring Briar along, so I didn't give you many instructions. I just asked you to keep an eye on Briar... But thinking back, this task was too complicated for you! From now on, just play with Briar and don't worry about helping me with anything, okay?"
Brett blinked at me. "Is it because I didn't do a good job and didn't get any useful information, so you are disappointed in me?"
"Of course not! How could you think that?"
I quickly hugged him and patted his back. "I just think this is too dangerous for you. You know there are a lot of uncertainties around us now, including the bad things we encountered last time. I feel like everyone is out to get us, so I'm more nervous than before..."
I could feel my emotions were all over the place, and my breathing became rapid and a bit incoherent as I spoke to Brett.
But Brett said, "Mom, I'm not scared. You shouldn't be either. I think of it as a little spy mission, and I'm happy to help you. Besides, when you were trapped by that bad guy in the villa, didn't I help you complete tasks again and again?"
His words made me pause.
Yes. During the ordeal with Brandon, Brett had been a huge help.
Because of our close relationship, I almost forgot that Brett played an indispensable role in helping me.
I hugged him, feeling tears well up. "Yes, you've always been a brave boy. I know you want to help me, but I still can't bear to put you in danger..."
"Mom, don't say that. I'll always protect you. Next time I see Briar, I'll still try to get information for you. But I really couldn't find out anything about the person she's chatting with. I don't know what they're planning or who that person is."
Brett looked troubled as he spoke.
I understood a child's mind. Besides helping me, he was probably also curious about what Briar was going through.
Given their past experiences of going missing together, I knew their friendship was pure and innocent. He definitely didn't want Briar to be in any danger.
"Just do what you can. If you ever feel scared or unsure why you're doing this, or if you're worried about slipping up in front of Briar... you can stop anytime. I won't blame you."
Brett nodded, somewhat understanding.
After a while, I sent Brett to rest. As I rubbed my temples and stood up, I saw Royce leaning against my bedroom door, quietly watching me.
I was startled and turned to see that Kelly and Zola had gone out to buy groceries at some point.
The living room was empty except for Royce and me.
Had he heard everything I said to Brett?
Feeling a bit embarrassed, I walked over to him.
"Why are you eavesdropping while you're a guest in my house?"
Royce laughed at my accusation. "I wasn't eavesdropping. I couldn't hear what you were saying from that far away, but I knew it had to be about Briar."
I sighed, grabbed his hand, and led him to the couch.
"Of course, what else would we talk about? I already asked Brett if he had fun camping. He said he wants to go again."
Royce said, "Then I'll help you plan the next trip. We can find a new place. I found some great camping spots."
"You're so enthusiastic about this. Why don't you think about how we can solve our current problems?"
I frowned. "Knowing that Briar's chat partner changed their profile picture makes me even more anxious... Before, I could at least think they weren't chatting frequently, and the kids were just curious about online friends and got a bit lost."
Royce listened quietly, occasionally squeezing my hand.
I was relatively calm and didn't feel panicked.
