Husband plans to kill me Chapter 327
Savannah looked at me, her beautiful eyes welling up with tears.
"Thanks, Caroline. You're the only one who really listens to me."
I waved my hand dismissively. "Kathy and the others listen too."
Savannah managed a smile through her tears. "But they're not as close to me as you are! I've been with you from the start."
"That's true. I see you like a little sister. If anything's bothering you, just tell me. Don't keep it all inside."
Savannah nodded eagerly.
We decided to leave. We were full and had nothing else to discuss, and hanging around the restaurant might lead to unexpected situations.
As we walked out, I told Savannah that the city didn't feel very safe lately and she should be careful about the people around her.
Savannah nodded. "Of course, don't worry. Remember, I'm here to protect you. I need to be aware of my surroundings and keep you safe too."
Over time, I had come to see Savannah as my sister, forgetting she was actually my bodyguard!
Thinking about this, I couldn't help but smile at her.
But then, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a car pulling up to the curb.
I thought nothing of it until I saw Brandon walking towards it and quickly getting in.
I thought Brandon had left long ago. Had he been waiting outside the restaurant, watching where Savannah and I were going?
Or was he waiting for this car to pick him up?
A thousand questions swirled in my mind. I was about to ask something when I noticed Savannah was also staring at the car.
She was clearly memorizing the license plate. I focused, and once the car drove away, I asked Savannah, "Did you notice anything unusual?"
"I'll check who owns that car later, but I saw a very fat man sitting in the front." Savannah had excellent eyesight, so she was probably right.
"A very fat man?"
"Yes, extremely fat."
Hearing this description, I immediately thought of someone.
Lowell!
No one else was that fat, and it was so obvious that even Savannah remarked on it.
"They're definitely in cahoots..." I realized I hadn't properly explained this to Savannah, so I quickly told her about the time Brett and I encountered Lowell.
Savannah was visibly shaken. "Caroline! Next time, don't go shopping alone with Brett. Why didn't you tell me about this earlier?"
"If I had known, I would have dropped everything to be with you. You wouldn't have faced such danger..." Just hearing about the situation made Savannah anxious.
If something had happened to us, it would have been her responsibility as our bodyguard!
Seeing Savannah so worried, I quickly reassured her, "Don't worry, we're fine now. Besides, someone helped us at the time. Royce rushed to save us..."
Savannah was too honest, and I didn't want her to overthink.
Savannah shook her head. "Regardless, do not do that again. Family is most important. I get you want to take the kids out, but it can't be so risky."
"Now that we're safe, let's focus on checking out that car." I quickly changed the subject.
Talking about this would only get more complicated, and it was better to move on. The priority now was to figure out what Brandon and Lowell were up to.
If they were planning something, we needed to be prepared.
"Alright, I'll check it out for you. Your previous plan can still work. We can use their account information to see what they're up to."
I nodded.
I hadn't eaten much during the meal, my appetite affected by everything.
But getting information on them was crucial, and I didn't dwell on it.
On the way home, I told Royce about it.
Royce said, "Good job. Spending a few thousand dollars to get their information is worth it."
Investigating the Jordan family had been challenging, and we needed every lead we could get.
And no matter what, Brandon and I had a history. Our interests were intertwined far beyond our divorce.
"I didn't expect you to help me with this. I feel..." I shook my head, sighing.
On the phone, Royce quickly reassured me, "Don't say that. I planned to help you with this. Hearing you say that makes me sad."
He added, "Remember what I told you yesterday? No matter what happens, we'll face it together. Don't make me feel like I haven't given you a sense of security."
Hearing his words, I quickly said, "I know. It's just been so busy lately, and I can't help but overthink."
"Overthinking is fine. Let's take the kids on a spring outing in a few days. I'll arrange a safe place for you."
With Royce's arrangements, I agreed.
But we needed to see if Kathy and the others were available. If we were going on a picnic, we had to bring friends along to relax.
While the kids played, we could chat about life, something Kathy and I had talked about before.
And Isadora's baby had just turned one month old. If she could join us, that would be great.
I had a lot to consider, planning to finalize everything soon.
But before we could decide, I saw someone else.
When I got home, I saw a man and a child waiting downstairs, seemingly for me.
Seeing me, Leo's eyes lit up, and he walked towards me with Briar. "You're finally back!"
His familiarity made me uneasy, and I instinctively stopped.
Noticing my hesitation, Leo frowned and held Briar back.
I quickly stepped forward. "Sorry, I was lost in thought about work..."
I couldn't let them see my wariness.
Leo finally smiled. "I thought you didn't want to see us."
His smile was a bit forced, as if he had more to say.
