Seeing Simon looking so disheveled, I instinctively thought he was still working.

Simon shook his head. "Nah, this isn't a disguise. My mission's done. I rushed over here 'cause I didn't have time to clean up."

"You're not even worried about how you look in front of Kathy?" I couldn't help but ask.

Simon looked a bit embarrassed.

Just then, Kathy arrived and greeted us, "Why are you guys just standing around waiting for me? I went to the studio first thing this morning to handle some stuff before meeting you. What were you talking about?"

I laughed, "You came in such a rush, like you're running from one place to another! Simon and I just got here too, we haven't started talking yet. We were waiting for you."

Kathy shrugged, "Let's get started then."

She pulled out a menu, "Is Caroline treating us today? Then I won't hold back."

Simon chuckled and said, "I'll kick things off, since I've been digging into this stuff recently."

We sipped our tea and listened.

After a while, Royce arrived.

He naturally sat beside me.

Seeing us so close, Kathy winked at me playfully, "You two are inseparable now."

I felt a bit shy.

Royce, however, acted as if everything was normal, sitting beside me, handing me things, and asking Simon about his investigation results.

Simon said, "Here's the thing, I've done a lot recently, but the concrete results I can share are limited. Regarding Renee, there's no trace of her."

I had just seen Leo and Briar yesterday, so I quickly said, "Leo saw me yesterday and told me she hasn't been home for days. The timing matches."

So, since the Jordan family incident and Karen's death, Renee has been busy with other things.

They must know my lead had completely fallen apart, so they were planning other moves.

Simon continued, "There's no trace of Renee, but her accounts are still active. I investigated and found some withdrawals abroad and some transfers from within the country... These transactions might happen at different times on the same day, so it's possible more than one person is using her account."

I frowned, "Someone's transferring money to her, and someone's withdrawing it... Given Renee's lifestyle, it might be some kind of transaction."

Renee was an addict, just well-disguised.

Disappearing for a while likely meant she was indulging somewhere!

Hearing my words, Royce put his arm around my shoulder and rubbed it gently.

I knew he felt for me.

Simon cleared his throat, "Let's not dwell on this. Briar is just a kid, installing the bug under someone's influence, not realizing what she's doing! And based on what you said, she has a mysterious contact on her phone. We mustn't panic. Kids are easily flustered. If she senses something and tells that person, we'll lose all leads."

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Simon continued, "But given Caroline's recent experiences, I want to say you must be careful when going out."

Renee was missing, but Brandon kept causing trouble.

When he was released from prison, he came to provoke me, saying he could come out anytime.

It showed how powerful the people behind him were!

"I suspect Brandon and Renee are still in contact, and they haven't given up on you." Simon stared at me intensely, "They've seen you as the biggest catch for years. Now that you're divorced and starting a new life, they won't let you go."

I felt a chill down my spine. If it weren't for Royce sitting beside me, comforting me, I would have wanted to leave!

But I quickly calmed down and said, "I already guessed that. I ran into Brandon while having dinner with Savannah."

I shared everything that happened yesterday with them. "Brandon shamelessly threatened me with custody of the kids. They definitely haven't given up on me."

Giving him that card was not just about investigating the account; I didn't expect to solve this in one go.

Simon said, "We must be cautious moving forward. I'll keep investigating and updating you. I'm worried the Jordan family might have more tricks up their sleeve."

Karen's death didn't mean his family wasn't scheming.

With her around, we couldn't have peace.

But chatting with them and sharing information made me feel much better.

That night, Royce brought up Briar's situation while driving me home.

"We need to protect Brett." His words were restrained but earnest.

I realized what Royce was worried about and nodded, "Don't worry, Brett is my child. I won't let him be in danger."

But honestly, I also felt for Briar. "Should I tell Brett about the mysterious contact in Briar's chat? Maybe Brett knows something."

Royce suggested, "It's better not to tell him for now. He's been through a lot recently and might overthink."

And given a child's mental resilience, he might not handle the pressure well.

Royce thought for a moment and said, "If you ask me, I'd suggest talking to Leo again."

He added, "He cares about Briar and might not want her in a bad situation."
