I originally thought that when Leo heard this, he would politely agree.

But to my surprise, he quickly said, "Caroline, there's no need for that... We just saw each other a few days ago! If I bring Briar over again, it would be a bit embarrassing."

Hearing this, a cloud of doubt formed in my mind.

Leo had never reacted this way to my invitations before, but now that he decided to go on a business trip to Oceancrest City, everything changed.

If he was wary of me, why would he deliberately mention Oceancrest City?

The more I thought about it, the more I felt our previous suspicions were justified. So I said, "I know you're busy, and I'm not saying you have to come. Just consider it a polite offer. But if Briar misses Brett and wants to come over, you're always welcome. Just give me a heads-up next time, unlike last time."

Leo paused on the other end of the line.

A silence spread, and I didn't rush to speak.

I suddenly felt that Leo had something he wanted to say but couldn't for some reason.

I was about to try and dig for some information when Leo said, "Thank you, Caroline. I know you've been very kind to us. I need to focus on my business trip first. We can talk more when I get back."

Then he quickly added, "If I have time then... I'm also planning to transfer Briar to a new school and sign her up for some extracurricular activities to keep her busy, so she won't be thinking about playing all the time."

Playing was a child's nature, but it seemed like he was trying to distance himself from Briar or keep her out of the house more often.

This thought made me feel uneasy.

But I didn't say anything, just replied, "Anyway, just let me know if you want to visit. Just give me some notice next time."

After a few more pleasantries, I hung up the phone.

But this call left me feeling uneasy.

I had a strong feeling that Leo was hiding something from me, and he hadn't mentioned Briar's situation at all.

He had already declined my invitation once before, and now twice.

Leo wasn't the type to give such a firm refusal if he couldn't do something. There must be a reason.

Thinking this, I recounted everything Leo and I talked about to Royce.

After listening, Royce said, "Don't worry. He's probably just focused on his trip to Oceancrest City and hasn't thought about other things. When he gets back, you can talk to him again. Maybe he'll agree to meet then."

I sighed and said to Royce, "You promised to help me with this, and now I have to handle it myself because you couldn't get any information from him."

Royce chuckled and said gently, "Alright, I didn't fulfill my promise, so it's my fault. How can I make it up to you?"

Hearing this, my heart softened, but I replied playfully, "No need to make it up to me. We're close enough."

This was my investigation, and I already felt bad involving Royce. "I should be thanking you for always helping me..."

Royce responded, "No way. I promised to help, so I should do it. Since I didn't, I deserve to be punished! How about I treat you to dinner tonight as a punishment?"

"I didn't say that," Royce replied in a mock-serious tone.

I burst out laughing.

After arranging dinner for the evening, I hung up the phone, feeling that our relationship was becoming more intimate, like a young couple.

We saw each other almost every day, had meals together, and went on dates. Despite the many problems we had to solve, our mindset felt youthful.

At that moment, I remembered what Royce had said before.

I asked if she could meet up for a chat, but Kathy said she was busy and asked me to come to her studio instead.

After the meeting, I updated Asher on the project's progress and headed to Kathy's studio.

Kathy's studio was still at the same address but had become much busier and more vibrant.

The last time I visited was for a private fitting event. It seemed like things had changed, and the place was bustling with people.

There were several people waiting in the lobby, all looking wealthy, reading newspapers and fashion magazines.

The air was filled with the scent of floral tea.

I went to the employee lounge to find Kathy.

She was drinking water and hurried over to greet me, holding my hand and saying earnestly, "You have no idea how busy I've been... After that private fitting event, I've been swamped with orders. I can barely keep up."

"You always take on too much work. Now you can't handle it, and you still plan to go on business trips. You're crazy!" I couldn't help but be amazed by the crowd outside.

Kathy shook her head, "It's because so many people want custom clothes from me that I need to travel. Staying cooped up in the studio won't inspire new designs, and I'd be letting them down."

That made sense.
