Husband plans to kill me Chapter 374
I whispered to Royce, "Looks like they're waiting for someone. We gotta be careful."
Royce nodded slightly. "I already got Simon to beef up security. We'll be alright."
With Simon on the job, I felt a wave of relief wash over me.
Suddenly, there was a commotion at the entrance.
A group of men dressed in black stormed in, wielding clubs, their faces full of menace.
The people closest to them screamed.
Chaos erupted, and everyone scrambled to get out of the way. The scene quickly spiraled out of control!
I frowned and was about to step forward when Royce immediately stood in front of me, shielding me.
He pulled out his phone to contact the security team.
Simon arrived swiftly, leading the security personnel to confront the men in black.
The atmosphere was tense, like a powder keg ready to explode.
No one had expected such an incident at the anniversary celebration.
Amid the uproar, I noticed someone beside me.
I turned around quickly and saw Alfonso!
Aurelia was right behind him, glaring at me.
Alfonso suddenly laughed, his voice tinged with mockery. "Caroline, did you really think you could stop me?"
"Did you arrange for these men? What exactly are you trying to do?" I stared coldly at him.
The men had clearly come to cause trouble, but with the security team holding them back, they hadn't managed to create much of a disturbance.
Alfonso sneered, his tone full of arrogance. "I just want you to know that in this world, no one can stop me."
I took a deep breath.
His purpose here was definitely not that simple.
And he wouldn't be able to pull off something like this without some powerful backing.
"Alfonso, what you're doing is pointless. We won't let you succeed."
Alfonso chuckled, his tone dripping with disdain. "Oh really? Let's see about that."
By this time, Simon and the security team had already subdued the men in black.
They were clearly just a bunch of thugs, paid to put on a show.
Against the well-trained security personnel, they were no match.
The scene gradually calmed down, but the lively atmosphere of the anniversary celebration had vanished without a trace.
I felt that this incident was far from simple.
For such an important occasion, Alfonso wouldn't resort to such childish tactics if he really intended to do something.
This felt more like a demonstration.
Sure enough, when I looked at him, he was staring at me with a smirk.
"Caroline, don't get too comfortable. Our game has only just begun."
I didn't say anything, just glared at him.
Alfonso laughed again and turned to leave the venue.
Aurelia came over and said to me, "Do you think this is over?"
Without giving me a chance to respond, she ran after him.
The two of them left just like that.
I watched their retreating figures, feeling increasingly uneasy...
Fortunately, today was just the prelude to the anniversary celebration. Alfonso's move had already surprised me.
After the event ended, I returned to my office and let out a long sigh.
Alfonso's threat still loomed, and the thought of it made me anxious. "He's definitely planning something more... But what else does he have up his sleeve?"
The more I thought about it, the stranger it seemed.
Especially since he brought Aurelia along today, like he wasn't worried about their plan being exposed.
Royce sat beside me, "Just the prelude to the anniversary celebration and you're already wiped out?"
"Exhausted... Yeah, that's been my main feeling lately."
Honestly, this sense of fatigue probably started when I realized my marriage was in trouble.
It hasn't improved since then.
Royce began to massage my shoulders.
"Royce... Thank you." I looked at Royce, my voice filled with gratitude. "If it weren't for you, I might have already collapsed."
Royce's hands paused slightly. "Don't say that. Remember, I'm your boyfriend now. We're supposed to support each other. No matter how tough the future gets, we'll face it together."
I leaned into his embrace, savoring the rare moment of peace.
Two days after the prelude to the anniversary celebration, I was in my office organizing files.
Alfonso's threat still hung over me like a dark cloud.
I wanted to postpone the anniversary celebration.
When Royce came to see me, I shared my plan with him.
Royce remained silent.
I looked up at him and noticed his serious expression, like he had something important to tell me.
"What's wrong?" I put down the files, my voice tinged with curiosity.
Did he not want me to postpone the celebration?
Royce walked over, gently holding my hand, his tone hesitant. "Caroline, I've found out something about Joanna."
Joanna?
I hadn't heard anything about her lately, and the mention of her name surprised me.
"You've been so busy, I wasn't sure if I should tell you." Royce continued.
My heart tightened, sensing that this was serious.
Joanna was a longtime friend, and with Maeve's situation, I had been worried about Joanna's marriage.
Ronnie seemed like a successful businessman on the surface, but there were plenty of rumors about him.
Especially after our last conversation with Joanna, knowing Ronnie had climbed to success through her, we were even more disdainful of him.
We had also heard rumors that Ronnie was involved in some shady business.
Though I had reservations about this.
Given Oscar's status, it seemed unlikely he would let Ronnie get involved in anything dirty.
But considering Ronnie's affair with Maeve, other things might not be impossible.
"What did you find out?" My voice was urgent, feeling a growing unease.
Royce was silent for a moment, choosing his words carefully.
"I found out Ronnie has been in contact with some unidentified individuals, and the financial transactions involved are very complex..."
He lowered his voice. "It might involve illegal fundraising and money laundering. Plus, he's been frequenting high-end clubs and associating with people of dubious backgrounds."
My heart sank.
If Ronnie was really involved in these illegal activities, Joanna's situation could become even more dangerous...
And it might even implicate Oscar!
"Does Joanna know?" My voice was anxious. "She's considering divorce, thinking about how to protect her family first, now..."
What should we do?
Royce shook his head. "We can't tell her yet. Ronnie's background is too complicated. If we act rashly, we might alert him."
