Husband plans to kill me Chapter 326
There was no way I'd trust my four kids with him in that kind of mess.
I didn't even want him visiting them. "Honestly, the best thing for you is to stay away from us from now on."
I pulled out a bank card. "There's a few thousand dollars on this card. I was saving it for the kids, to buy them books and other stuff."
"But since you came to see me today, I'm giving it to you. I know you're struggling, but I can't help you anymore."
Brandon looked at the card I was handing him, then sneered after a moment. "You're trying to brush me off with a few thousand dollars?"
"What else do you expect? I'm being generous by not demanding you pay back all the money you lost while running the company. I know you can't afford it!"
During the years I was bedridden, Brandon ran the company into the ground, and so much money slipped through the Jordan family's fingers!
Just Renee's drug addiction alone drained a significant amount from the company's accounts.
No wonder she always looked so glamorous and never seemed to have a relapse—someone was constantly giving her money!
Thinking about this made me even more disdainful. "Take the few thousand dollars or leave it. If you take it, I can at least tell the kids their father left but was still good to them. That way, they'll have a decent impression of you."
From today on, Brandon would be permanently absent from the kids' lives. He probably hoped to maintain some semblance of a good father image.
I knew I was taking a gamble.
A gamble that Brandon still had some affection for the kids, that he had a shred of decency left.
But if he didn't, there was nothing I could do.
I said, "I've said all I can. Just take it. I'll buy the kids clothes and toys and say they're from you. As for custody... if you want to fight, I'm ready."
After the divorce, the kids were my strength.
I had family, money, a stable home, and a job. I could provide for them well!
Any court would consider that.
Brandon could only use the kids to threaten me now, but I wasn't afraid of him.
I just didn't want unnecessary complications in my life.
He stared at me for a long time without speaking.
Savannah, beside me, grew impatient. "Brandon, have you made up your mind? We've made everything clear! If you want to keep causing trouble, we'll fight back, but I'm telling you, your chances of winning are slim!"
Hearing Savannah, Brandon reluctantly took the card. "Alright... I admit I got a bit emotional today, but they're my kids, so it's normal to feel that way."
I nodded, not denying his words.
He asked, "But I really can't see them at all?"
"Don't even think about it. If you're really struggling, I might show some concern if we cross paths, but there's no way I'll forgive the past!"
I glared at him. "You need to understand, there's no chance of us getting back together!"
"Find a job and move on." I was just trying to comfort him.
I knew Brandon's personality wouldn't let him settle down.
As the saying went, it was hard to go from luxury to frugality. He had already enjoyed a high standard of living with me.
He probably came back to our old house because he couldn't stand his current poverty and wanted to return to the dream he once had.
But that dream was no longer his.
"We were married once, so I don't want to be too harsh. This is my final act of kindness. I'll tell the kids you left to earn money and won't be back. But if you keep bothering me, don't blame me for being ruthless." I looked at him coldly. "I've made myself clear, right?"
Brandon opened his mouth but said nothing.
Finally, he left with the card.
I watched his back. His suit was ill-fitting, like he bought it last minute or borrowed it.
His behavior today made me think someone was pushing him to intimidate us.
After Brandon left, Savannah turned to me. "Caroline, why did you give him money? After what he did today, we should've beaten him up, but you gave him money!"
I shook my head. "He's already like this. What can we do? And I gave him the card for a reason. I want to see where he withdraws and spends the money, to figure out where he's living and hanging around."
If we combined that with Simon's investigation, we might find out if Lowell was in the same area, and if they were working together.
Savannah gave me a thumbs up. "You're the brains here. I'm just the muscle."
"Don't say that. You've helped me a lot. And you're smart too, just stressed lately?"
I remembered Savannah came to talk to me today, but Brandon interrupted, and I almost forgot.
I quickly asked her what she wanted to discuss.
Savannah shook her head. "It's nothing urgent. I met with Kirk and talked about us, so I wanted to ask you."
I remembered Kirk's name. "Your captain, right?"
Savannah nodded, her smile turning shy. "But I know you're busy, so I didn't want to bother you with my personal issues... and I haven't figured out how to say it."
I didn't press her. "If you have any thoughts, come to me anytime. No matter how busy I am, I'll always have time to listen."
