Husband plans to kill me Chapter 352
"So, you're really set on going to Oceancrest City for this business trip?" I was actually thinking about tagging along.
With Kathy going, I had a good enough reason to go too.
But when Leo told me about his business trip to Oceancrest City, I didn't mention my plans at all.
If I went with Kathy and we happened to run into Leo, or if he found out I was in Oceancrest City, would he be confused or suspicious?
I shared my thoughts with Kathy. "Do you think if I go, it might catch his attention? If he asks me about it later, I might find out he's investigating me too..."
Kathy shook her head. "Caroline, I don't think that's a good idea. We've talked about this before. We're out in the open, and they're in the shadows. We can't control what they do! We can only stick to our plan. I have a legitimate reason for my trip, and Leo and I aren't close. If we run into each other, I can easily explain it away. But you?"
I stuck out my tongue. "I know..."
"Your company is just starting to get back on its feet. You're busy every day. If you suddenly drop everything to go to Oceancrest City with me, won't that raise suspicions?"
I sighed. "I know... It's just that sometimes I feel like I need to handle things myself..."
"I feel bad always asking my friends to help me investigate." I sighed heavily.
Kathy said, "Don't feel bad. Remember, you saved me when I was kidnapped."
Ever since my family got into trouble, my friends and I had been tightly connected.
We had been through so much together over the years.
I sighed again. "Alright, I'll rely on you this time. But let me treat you to some bubble tea. Your employees must be tired too. I'll order some afternoon tea for everyone."
Kathy was thrilled and dragged me out to introduce me to her team.
When they heard I was treating them to afternoon tea, they all praised me for being kind and generous.
Kathy's studio had a great atmosphere. All the employees seemed to admire her and were passionate about their work.
In the afternoon, the bubble tea arrived. Kathy and I grabbed two cups and went back to her office.
We discussed our different plans for her business trip.
"Got it. My first priority is to handle my work. I'll get some inspiration, and during the design exhibition, I'll keep an eye on those two people for you." Kathy nodded at my plan.
She thought it wasn't necessary to take it too seriously since Royce had arranged for people to help me. There was no rush.
After hearing that, I sighed again. "Royce is already so busy. Asking him to send two people over makes me feel guilty. This is my investigation, and I'm constantly troubling others..."
As I was talking, Kathy suddenly pinched my cheek. "Have you noticed you've been sighing a lot today? If you keep sighing, happiness will slip away."
I quickly covered my mouth. "I didn't realize... People really do sigh a lot..."
Kathy looked at me, patted my shoulder, and said, "Caroline, we've been friends for so many years. Helping you is no big deal. And don't think of it that way with Royce. He's with you now and wants to help. Helping you makes him happy. You're giving him an opportunity. There's nothing to feel bad about."
Hearing Kathy's words, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders.
She was right. Royce and I were like family. He had been involved in so much already. Why would he suddenly get tired of it now?
But even though I understood, I still had some unspoken feelings.
Kathy noticed my mood and handed me my bubble tea. "Have something sweet and relax."
"Thanks again..." I said.
"Enough, Caroline! Just focus on doing what you need to do. When Leo gets back, talk to him. If you find any clues, that's enough."
I nodded. "All I can do is wait at home."
Otherwise, if I went to Oceancrest City, I'd definitely be noticed!
And it wouldn't help with negotiating with Leo.
Even though the plan was set, I still couldn't calm down.
Maybe only when Leo's situation had a clear outcome, or when he returned, could I think further.
A few days later, Kathy was already in Oceancrest City, sending pictures of the city and the design exhibition to our group chat.
I was snuggled up with Royce, looking at Kathy's photos.
I realized it had been a long time since I traveled, so I thought about suggesting a trip to Royce.
Once things settled down, we could go on a vacation.
Royce was on board but asked, "How long do you think it'll take for us to handle everything?"
I fell silent at that question.
We were dealing with so many issues. How could we find time to travel?
And even if we could travel, we had the kids at home.
Thinking about it made me frown. "We're tied down by so many things... If only we could travel without all these worries."
"Don't think about it. At this point, we have too many responsibilities to be carefree." In moments like these, Royce felt like a wise elder, always comforting me with his words.
I looked at him and couldn't help but joke, "Royce, sometimes you remind me of my mom. Your thoughts and attitudes are so similar."
Royce raised an eyebrow and leaned in to kiss the corner of my lips. "How about now? Still think I'm an old-fashioned guy?"
My cheeks heated up, and I turned away, pouting.
