Husband plans to kill me Chapter 363
I never meant to keep my relationship with Royce a secret from my friends, let alone my family.
When I made things official with Royce today, I knew I had to tell Kelly when I got home.
Thinking about Kelly's earlier assumptions made me feel uneasy.
It turned out that my attitude towards Royce was so bad that everyone around me noticed. Kelly, being family, probably didn't want to be too blunt about it.
"So, I really treated him poorly before, huh? Otherwise, why would everyone keep reminding me to be nicer to him..."
Kelly patted my hand. "You know I'm protective of you. I wouldn't normally say these things to your face, but no matter what, I want you to be happy..."
"But honestly, Royce is a good guy. I can see he's got a lot going for him, and he's more than a good match for you. He's waited for you for so many years and even visited me when you couldn't come home. That's pretty straightforward."
I nodded repeatedly. "Mom, I understand everything you're saying."
"Since you understand, cherish him. Royce is a good man, and I don't want you two to miss out on each other."
I chatted with Kelly a bit more, and we agreed that Royce was indeed a good person. I trusted Kelly's judgment.
After all, when Brandon and I decided to get married, Kelly was the first to oppose it.
If Royce had any ulterior motives, he wouldn't have stuck around for so many years.
We liked each other since we were teenagers.
After all these years, we found our way back to each other. Lying in bed that night, I couldn't help but thank God for it.
I was not a religious person, but at that moment, I genuinely wanted to find a temple and give thanks.
I slept well that night.
The next morning, I woke up to the sound of voices in the living room.
I thought something was wrong and rushed out, only to find Royce sitting in the living room, talking to Brett.
Brett looked particularly happy, his big eyes shining with admiration as he stared at Royce.
Seeing this, I leaned against the door, my sleepiness vanishing.
By the time I realized I was smiling, they had already noticed me.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, I rubbed my eyes and pretended I had just woken up as I walked over to them.
"Why do we have a guest so early in the morning?" I said deliberately.
Royce stood up and walked over to me, naturally pulling me into his arms. "Shouldn't you know best whether I'm a guest or not?"
Thinking about how we made things official yesterday, it made sense that he would come over so early today.
I couldn't help but look at him. "Why did you come over so early?"
"If you're not happy about it, I can leave right now," Royce said, raising an eyebrow at me.
After all these years, he was still as handsome as ever, just like the light of my school days.
Looking at his face, I couldn't help but pat my own.
"What's wrong? Do you really not want me here that much? You're starting to hit yourself?"
Hearing Royce tease me, I quickly said, "No, I just feel like time hasn't left any marks on your face. You're still so handsome."
"That's because you have good taste." Royce always found a way to compliment me, even when I was complimenting him.
I couldn't help but laugh. "You really know how to talk."
Brett came running over, grabbing my hand and loudly asking, "Mommy, Mr. Castillo said that now that you two are officially together, I can call him Dad. Is that true?"
"Why did you tell Brett that?" I immediately put on a stern face.
"What's wrong with him calling me Dad?" Royce was clearly doing it on purpose, bringing it up without any guilt.
I looked at Brett. "Do you want him to be your dad? If not, you can just call him Uncle."
"I don't mind! As long as Mommy is happy, I am happy!" Brett was quite the smooth talker, just like Royce.
At least when it came to saying nice things.
I smiled and ruffled Brett's hair. "What were you two talking about?"
"Mr. Castillo said he came to pick us up this morning, take us out for breakfast, and then take me to school... Mommy, are you ready? Can we go out now?"
I was still in my pajamas. Hearing Royce's plan, I quickly told Brett, "I'll go get dressed and ready, then we'll go out for breakfast. You two keep chatting."
With that, I hurried back to change.
Thinking about how Royce was already fitting in with Brett made me feel a bit strange.
Even though we were officially together, it felt like I hadn't fully accepted everything yet.
Especially with him showing up at my house, it felt like a boundary had been crossed.
But instead of feeling resistant, I was surprisingly happy.
Maybe it was because I could feel that Royce was genuinely sincere and wasn't trying to get close to my family for any ulterior motives.
If it were Brandon, I'd already be on high alert.
Thinking about the past still felt like a thorn in my heart.
But since I decided to live a good life from now on, I shook my head and pushed those thoughts away.
As Royce, Brett, and I were about to leave, Kelly said at the door, "Royce, why don't you come over for lunch sometime? Come and try my cooking."
Royce immediately agreed. "I'll come by when work isn't too busy in the next few days. I'll see if your cooking is still as good as before."
Kelly smiled warmly. "You're always welcome to come over for a meal."
It was clear that Kelly was happy about us being together.
She had always liked Royce, not just because he visited her when I wasn't home, but because she felt he was a good person.
From that perspective, Royce had won Kelly over first.
Then Brett, and finally me?
I couldn't help but laugh at my own thoughts.
