Husband plans to kill me Chapter 395
Royce shielded Brett, saying, "As long as he likes it, that's all that matters. He'll get to meet more animals today."
We all headed to the zoo, with Brett holding Royce's hand, running around excitedly.
Royce patiently accompanied him, explaining the habits of each animal.
I had to admit, Royce knew way more about the animals than I did. He must have done his homework because he was like a walking encyclopedia.
Brett stuck close to him, which made things easier for me. I even sent a message to Kathy during our visit.
Kathy replied: [What a happy little family of three.]
I couldn't help but point out that we weren't officially married yet, and it wasn't just the three of us; there were many people at home.
Kathy: [You three are out having fun, so it's a family of three... And marriage is just a matter of time.]
Kathy was even more optimistic than I had expected.
I shook my head, thinking maybe she was right.
While messaging my friends, I also took many photos of the animals and shared them in our group chat.
Isadora chimed in, saying she wanted to take her kids to the zoo when they were a bit older.
In front of the giraffe exhibit, Brett suddenly turned to Royce and asked seriously, "Mr. Castillo, will you come to the zoo with me again?"
Royce squatted down, smiling as he nodded. "Of course, Brett. Wherever you want to go, I'll be there with you."
Brett beamed and hugged Royce's neck. "Mr. Castillo, you're the best!"
Brett had become quite affectionate lately.
Seeing his growing bond with Royce made me happy.
That evening, when we got home, Kelly and Zola had prepared a sumptuous dinner.
Kelly greeted us with a smile, "Come on, dinner's ready. I made all your favorite dishes."
We gathered around the dining table, the atmosphere warm and harmonious.
Brett excitedly recounted his zoo adventures, with Royce patiently listening and adding details here and there.
My mom watched their interaction with a look of contentment in her eyes.
After dinner, Royce offered to help with the dishes, but Zola quickly intervened. "No need. You hired me to do this. If you start doing my job, what will I do?"
She gently pushed Royce out of the kitchen, making me laugh.
Kelly turned to me with a smile. "Caroline, Royce is a good man. You two should get along well."
I nodded. "Of course."
Later that night, after Brett had fallen asleep, Royce was about to leave when I stopped him.
"My mom said the guest room is empty anyway. If you're not in a hurry, why don't you stay the night?"
Royce nodded, looking at me warmly. "But won't that be an inconvenience for you?"
I assured him it wouldn't be.
We sat on the balcony, gazing at the stars.
I realized it had been a long time since I felt this relaxed.
Royce held my hand, his voice calm and gentle. "Caroline, what are your plans for the future?"
Maybe it was the serene moment that made me think about the future.
Leaning on his shoulder, I softly said, "I want to take Brett on a trip... to show him the world. And I want to open a small shop, doing something I love. I don't want to deal with the company stuff anymore. I'll leave that to you."
Royce chuckled. "That's your father's legacy. Are you sure you can trust me with it?"
"Why not? You've already won over my mom."
Royce nodded. "Alright, I'll support you. Whatever you want to do, I'll be by your side."
My heart warmed, and I gently kissed his cheek. "Thank you. With you here, the future feels full of hope."
I rarely said things like that.
Royce looked at me, not kissing me back but instead hugging me with a smile.
He held me gently, swaying like he was comforting a child.
"Caroline, I'll spend my life taking care of you and the kids."
Days passed, and with Royce's company, Brett became more cheerful and confident.
He was no longer as introverted as before, becoming more lively.
I could see that the shadow of the kidnapping was gradually fading.
I felt much more at ease, handling some projects at the company during the day.
In the evening, I returned home early. Brett ran into my room, holding a drawing. "Mom, I drew a picture of our family!"
I took the drawing and saw our whole family, holding hands and smiling. Brett had even included Royce.
My heart warmed, and I hugged Brett gently. "Brett, this is wonderful. We'll always be a family."
I took a photo of the drawing and sent it to Royce, noting that Brett had drawn it.
Royce quickly replied: [Great drawing. How about a picnic this weekend as a reward?]
I smiled and replied: [Sounds good], then playfully pinched Brett's cheek.
That weekend, we went for a picnic in the countryside.
Brett ran around excitedly, while Royce patiently taught him how to set up a tent.
They really looked like a father and son.
We spread out a picnic blanket on the grass, enjoying the sunshine and food.
Zola had found recipes online and made us sandwiches and fruit salad.
The picnic went smoothly. Although it was just the three of us, we didn't run into anyone else, unlike before when we would sometimes bump into Leo. My mood was much better.
When we got home that night, Brett was already asleep.
Royce gently carried him to bed, tucked him in, and then returned to the living room.
I was sitting on the couch and asked softly, "Is Brett asleep?"
Royce nodded and stretched.
I moved to sit beside him. "Royce, thank you for today. Brett had a great time."
Royce held my hand, his voice tender. "Caroline, as long as you're happy, I'm satisfied."
"You've been saying that a lot lately. Do you think I'm not happy with you around?"
I pretended to be stern.
I didn't want to keep having these polite conversations with Royce.
Our relationship was already very close, and with him spending so much time with Brett, I felt like we were already a family of three.
Royce's words made me feel a bit distant.
Realizing I had misunderstood, Royce quickly explained, "I didn't mean anything by it. You said you wanted to take things slow, so I'm just trying to do things that make you happy. And I know you're wary of commitments like engagements and marriage, so I try not to bring them up..."
I pouted. "Just don't keep saying those polite things to me..."
"Then you stop thanking me all the time." Royce playfully pinched my nose.
