Husband plans to kill me Chapter 373
Leo quickly replied, trying to sound calm, "Pressure? Yeah, right. But your business with them is ancient history. No matter how much they stir things up, it won't change a thing. Even if Brandon wants to squeeze money out of you, he probably won't find any dirt."
I nodded. "Not only will he come up empty, but I'm not giving him a dime."
Leo nodded back. "Hearing you say that makes me feel better. Caroline, you're way tougher than I am. When it comes to the Jordan family, I hope you can handle things well and not give them any openings."
Even now, I couldn't quite figure out the relationship between Leo and Renee.
He clearly harbored hatred and resentment towards the Jordan family, but when it came to Renee, I couldn't read his attitude.
Undoubtedly, there were more entanglements of interest between them.
Eventually, Leo was called away by a phone call, giving me a wry smile as he said Briar was crying and throwing a fit at home. "Briar cried even harder when she heard I was meeting you, saying I didn't bring her along..."
I quickly said, "Talking about this stuff today isn't suitable for kids. Go home and play with her. Next time, I'll bring Brett, and we can all have dinner together."
Leo nodded and left.
We were sitting by the window, and even after he left, my eyes followed him.
I noticed that Leo was still on the phone while crossing the street.
His expression was noticeably different from before.
There was no trace of the affection he had for his child, only deep impatience...
This made my heart tighten.
Back home, I quickly connected the voice recorder to my computer and carefully replayed the conversation with Leo.
I also didn't forget to send a copy to Royce and Savannah.
From Leo's tone and wording, I could tell his dissatisfaction with the Jordan family wasn't baseless but had deeper reasons.
Especially when I mentioned Brandon's income, Leo's tone changed.
I suddenly remembered that after Karen died, Leo had come to me to talk about money.
Could it be that he and Renee hadn't divorced yet because of financial reasons?
Savannah quickly asked if she could come over after receiving the recording.
I said it was fine and brought her into the study when she arrived.
Kelly didn't ask much in the living room, knowing I had been busy with some things lately.
"Caroline, I haven't finished listening to the recording yet. Let me listen a bit more."
Savannah said, pulling up a chair to sit next to me.
Leo's reaction to the Yves incident also puzzled us.
He seemed to know the Jordan family's methods well but showed a cold attitude towards the child's plight.
This contradictory behavior made me suspect he might have had some cooperation with the Jordan family but eventually had a falling out over uneven profit distribution.
Savannah thought the same. "When you mentioned the child, he was clearly indifferent... As a father, he should empathize. He either pretended not to remember or genuinely didn't care."
I asked Savannah, "Can you deduce anything more? I didn't get a chance to bring up Oceancrest City."
"No need to mention it. He definitely doesn't want you to ask."
Savannah shook her head. "Last time we met, he didn't give me this weird vibe... But now, I think he and the Jordan family have something else going on."
I asked Savannah why she thought so, and she told me it was just a gut feeling.
"Can you use your intuition to guess what he's planning now?"
Savannah said, "I think he and Aurelia's paths will cross again. Since you said he didn't work properly in Oceancrest City, he must be in contact with Aurelia."
Hearing this made my scalp tingle.
Thinking about how Leo pretended to forget or not know about the child today, could it be because he knew Alfonso did it but wanted to distance himself from Alfonso and Aurelia?
Simon added another piece of information after learning this.
It turned out Leo had been lying about always taking Briar on business trips.
Recently, wherever Leo went, he actually left Briar at an after-school program.
I had originally asked Brett to subtly inquire about this while chatting with Briar.
But Briar had become much more tight-lipped, not even talking to Brett about these things.
I felt a growing sense of unease.
If Brett lost Briar's trust, investigating Leo would become even more difficult.
And I didn't want Briar to become more scheming...
That would ultimately be a bad thing.
Finally, the day of the prelude to the anniversary celebration arrived.
On the day of the event, the company building was brightly decorated, and media and partners arrived in droves.
I stood at the entrance, greeting each guest, feeling a mix of emotions.
Because I wasn't sure if Alfonso would do something!
After the event started, the professional host I had invited took the stage to announce a series of major news.
This included the launch of our company's new product and the signing of significant partnership projects.
These were all part of our pre-planned agenda.
The atmosphere was lively, with partners applauding and media reporters taking photos, ready to release the news.
At that moment, I noticed Alfonso had also appeared at the venue.
Alfonso was dressed in a black suit, with a smirk on his face.
I frowned, feeling disgusted by his presence, but maintained my composure.
I also noticed Aurelia had come along.
As I frowned and observed, someone suddenly grabbed my hand.
Looking up, I saw it was Royce.
Royce whispered in my ear, "I'm here."
With him here, I felt at ease.
Just then, the host announced a special segment, a charity auction.
The atmosphere became even more enthusiastic, with guests eagerly bidding and showing their support.
Although it was a pre-arranged segment, the live effect far exceeded our expectations.
I kept an eye on the entire venue while secretly observing Alfonso from a distance.
He stood in the corner, wearing a cold smile, seemingly indifferent to everything.
So why was he here?
I noticed he occasionally glanced at the entrance, as if waiting for someone.
Aurelia beside him was also frequently checking her phone, even taking photos.
Were they contacting someone? Or had they already planned something?
