As Kathy and I explained, we recounted everything Simon had told us about Alfonso being responsible for Celestia's death, including the released driver.

Joanna frowned as she listened. "You guys are really good at keeping secrets! How could you not tell me something this big?"

"We wanted to, but Alfonso has become increasingly cunning and deceitful. We don't know what other evil plans he might have, so we're taking it one step at a time. Plus, his relationship with Aurelia is still unclear. We wanted to observe a bit more. Don't let this weigh on you too much; focus on your own matters first."

Joanna shook her head. "I understand your concerns, but it's hard to say right now. Ronnie and I can't get divorced immediately. I'm trying to gather evidence, but I'll need your help with this."

"Don't rush the divorce. Your ties are too strong. We didn't know how to tell you because of that. If you need help, just let us know. But promise us you'll take care of your health and not reconcile with him."

Joanna smiled. "Of course, I know. I've always kept my distance. There's no way I'd get involved with him again. Besides, I'm busy with my new store opening. I won't have time for anything else..."

The good thing about both spouses being busy is that they can use it as an excuse to avoid certain obligations and responsibilities. And Ronnie, after all, married Joanna for her family's status, so he wouldn't be too harsh on her.

They could maintain a polite relationship for a while, but what kind of retaliation Joanna might plan later, we couldn't predict.

The next day, I returned to the office. Asher arrived for a meeting, and we went over the business plan in detail.

Asher handed me a document. "Caroline, take a look at this."

"What's this?"

I thought it was a new proposal for our project, but after a quick glance, I realized it was a detailed report on NexGen Innovations.

I couldn't help but pat Asher on the shoulder. "Asher, you're amazing! Why didn't I think of doing such a thorough investigation first?"

Asher scratched his head, looking a bit embarrassed. "Don't praise me too much. I just figured we'd face a lot of challenges ahead, so it's better to know our opponent well."

The report matched what I knew. Alfonso had registered this company, and he had shares in it. But it seemed like a shell company with no major business.

I had a gut feeling there was more to it. "If your team has the time, keep an eye on this company. I doubt they're just trying to steal ideas."

A congratulatory bouquet had caused such a stir; this company couldn't be just a flash in the pan.

Asher nodded. "I'll definitely keep an eye on it. We recently hired someone who specializes in this area."

"A specialist... a hacker?"

I was startled.

Asher said, "Something like that, but he's more skilled than a regular hacker. He's been a computer prodigy since his teens and has won many awards."

"A real talent. If he's on your side, share this with him. But Asher, always be cautious."

After everything, I felt uneasy and wanted to be thorough.

Asher nodded. "I know. After what happened before, I won't trust people easily. Now, I keep things professional with my team. To me, you and Royce are my closest friends. I won't open up to others like that again."

I knew he was referring to when Brandon deceived him. I felt a bit guilty.

"You were smart back then. If I hadn't married Brandon, you wouldn't have trusted him blindly."

Asher sensed my sadness and quickly said, "Alright, Caroline, let's not dwell on the past."

"From now on, let's focus on the future."

With Asher's reassurance, I felt more at ease.

"Okay, let's get this project going. We'll deal with other things later."

But I kept the hacker in mind and told Simon about it.

Simon got back to me the next day, saying he had checked the guy out. He was indeed a talented hacker and had a record with them.

"A record? Did he do something wrong?"
