Husband plans to kill me Chapter 381
That night, I couldn't sleep well in my room.
My dreams were filled with images of Briar and Leo.
I dreamt of them standing in a corner, seemingly talking about something. As I approached, they both turned to look at me.
Their faces, one big and one small, were filled with malice.
I woke up with a start, realizing I had been scared to tears.
Maybe it was because everything had been going too smoothly lately, and my relationship with Royce had been getting better, making me more sensitive and fragile than before.
This was the first time a dream had scared me to tears. I patted my face.
When I finally got up and went to the living room, I found Brett already awake, sitting on the couch with Briar watching TV.
Seeing these two kids together early in the morning, all I could think about was the horrifying dream...
I walked over nervously, "Why are you up so early?"
"There's no school today. Briar knocked on my door and asked me to come out and watch TV..." Brett replied sleepily.
I could tell he was still a bit tired.
Based on Brett's usual sleep schedule, it was definitely not time for him to be awake.
"Why did you wake Brett up so early?" I tried to sound calm as I looked at Briar.
Briar was staring at the TV without blinking. When she heard my question, she looked up at me, "Isn't it okay?"
She didn't answer my question but instead responded with another question.
I was a bit taken aback.
It seemed like Briar was harder to deal with than before.
Maybe it was just my imagination!
But I didn't say anything else, letting them watch TV. I felt a bit uneasy when I saw Kathy later that morning.
As soon as I saw her, I hugged her tightly, "I've missed you so much. I'm so glad you're back..."
Kathy laughed and gently pushed me away, holding my face and looking at me closely.
"I heard a lot has happened while I was away. Not just the anniversary celebration preparations, but also some trouble?"
Kathy was well-informed. I smiled bitterly, "It's not just that..."
Because of Alfonso's antics, after the anniversary celebration preparations, I lost interest in planning the actual event.
The matter had been put on hold.
Then Brandon went crazy, Brett was kidnapped, and Leo had an incident...
It made me feel like the peaceful days I once had never existed!
Or maybe I would never have such a life again.
I told Kathy everything, including what had happened recently, leaving out no details.
Kathy's eyes widened, "No wonder you looked like you were about to cry when you saw me. I've been in Oceancrest City for too long, completely unaware of all this."
I sighed, "It's okay. You said you were going on a business trip. I've been holding back, not telling you everything."
Otherwise, I would have called her long ago.
"Looks like Royce has been taking good care of you. Now, when something happens, your first reaction isn't to call me." Kathy sounded a bit jealous.
I nudged her, "That's not true. You're still my best friend. I just didn't want to interrupt your business trip."
"No way, you have to tell me first when something happens... You make me worry too much."
Kathy shook her head, "But when you saw me earlier, it didn't seem like you were troubled by those things."
I suddenly remembered what happened that morning, "Don't even mention it... Briar is staying at my place now."
Kathy blinked, "Because her dad got arrested?"
"Yeah... I really don't know what to do with Briar. I can't leave her alone at home."
But thinking about Briar's behavior this morning made me uneasy.
I said, "I feel like Briar has changed a lot since the last time she stayed at my place. She wasn't like this before, waking Brett up early to watch TV with her... And when I asked her, her attitude made it seem like I was deliberately accusing her."
Briar's response made me uncomfortable.
Hearing this, Kathy frowned, "Now that you mention it, it does seem a bit strange. Kids can be complicated, but generally, they're not hard to figure out... Just keep an eye on her."
"Make sure there's always someone at home, maybe hire some help to keep an eye on things."
I waved my hand, "No need. I'm planning to stay home and watch over things myself."
Since the company didn't need to prepare for the anniversary celebration, I planned to stay home for the next few days.
And there was still no resolution with Leo, so I had a lot of news to wait for.
I said, "Now that you're back, I feel much better. Joanna had some issues recently, and Ronnie's situation is still unclear. Then there's Leo's incident. Simon must be exhausted, running around every day to investigate for us."
Kathy couldn't help but laugh, "He's always been a busybody. But there's some good news, at least Brandon is locked up, so you don't have to worry for now."
"He was never much of a threat... But I didn't expect him to target the kids." This incident still made me shudder.
Although they said a tiger wouldn't eat its cubs, the Jordan family clearly didn't fall into that category!
Thinking about Jason being pushed into the sea still terrified me. "This time, Brett's teacher noticed something was wrong and contacted me. I'm really scared there will be a next time..."
Brandon better died in prison and never came out!
Kathy asked, "Speaking of which, what about Lowell? He hasn't been conspiring with Brandon lately, has he?"
I shook my head, "I told the police about it, but they said they'd investigate. Lowell seems to be keeping a low profile lately, no leads."
I thought we could catch them all at once.
Kathy was disappointed too, "That jerk... He bullied us in school, and now we can't find him! I'll celebrate with fireworks when he gets caught."
I laughed, "We'll see when he actually gets caught. The only thing we can be sure of now is that Brandon won't be out anytime soon. But Alfonso is still plotting something, and now there's Leo. I can't let my guard down."
Kathy patted my arm, "Don't worry, I'm back now. I'll help you with anything."
I finally felt relieved and hugged Kathy again, "It's so good to have you here."
I had missed Kathy so much while she was in Oceancrest City.
She was my true friend!
