Husband plans to kill me Chapter 317
Brett rubbed his eyes, clearly showing he was a bit tired, his blinks slowing down.
He ran over and hugged me, saying, "Mom, no matter what happens, I'm always on your side. Even if something unexpected happens again, I'll protect you."
He tugged at my hand as he spoke.
Seeing Brett like this made my heart melt. I patted his head and said, "You're Mommy's best little knight, aren't you?"
Brett nodded and said, "Of course."
I held Brett's hand and walked him back to his room.
Kelly was still looking after the other three kids, so I stayed nearby to watch for a bit.
Royce noticed and followed me, staying close by my side as we watched the kids in the nursery.
Looking at the scene before him, Royce couldn't help but sigh, "If I were really with you, these four kids would be enough for me."
I couldn't help but glare at him and said, "What do you mean by that? Don't you like my four kids?"
Even though one of them wasn't my biological child, he had grown up in my home. Even during the years I was bedridden and couldn't take care of him properly, he was still my child.
Looking at them filled my heart with love and tenderness.
Brett had already been taken by Kelly to wash up and get ready for bed, while Royce and I stood in the nursery.
Three of the kids were either asleep or still playing.
One of the little ones sat in the crib, clapping their hands as if playing a game.
Royce and I watched this scene. "Speaking of this, if you really want to have your own kids in the future, it would be hard for me..."
Before I could finish, Royce grabbed my hand and said seriously, "Caroline, I'm not here to discuss that. I've never thought about whether we should have our own kids after being together. For me, being with you is a blessing from above."
After saying that, Royce looked at me with a gentle smile in his eyes.
In that moment, I believed he meant every word.
But what about the future?
Would Royce change his mind? That was something I couldn't predict.
I sighed and said, "It's still early. Your thoughts might change eventually... Let's not make any hasty decisions."
I had come to terms with the idea that even if Royce and I couldn't end up together or get married again, as long as we enjoyed our time together now, it wouldn't matter.
With that thought, I smiled, played with the kids for a bit, and then took Royce downstairs.
Royce's car was parked by the curb, looking like a beast ready to pounce in the darkness.
I held his hand as we walked towards the street and said, "Let's take a walk. We can talk about our plans."
Royce squeezed my hand and then led the way.
We walked in sync, his long strides occasionally adjusting to match my pace.
We walked for a while.
There was a small park near my house, and I led Royce inside for a stroll.
The park was lively at night.
With the weather warming up, many people were out dancing, exercising, playing badminton, basketball, and more.
Watching them, I couldn't help but quietly sigh, "I wish my life could be this peaceful again... Instead of dealing with so much every day..."
Royce heard me and rubbed my head, saying, "It'll get better soon. We'll handle everything together. These problems won't be an issue for us."
I leaned into his chest and said softly, "You saw my kids today. Don't you have anything to say to me?"
In the nursery earlier, I could sense that Royce had something on his mind.
I just didn't know what he wanted to say.
Royce looked at me for a while before saying seriously, "Caroline, if you really don't want to have more kids in the future, I can accept that. Just don't keep bringing it up. It makes me feel like I'm not giving you enough security, making you so anxious."
"You said you'd make things official next month, but you keep talking about things that might separate us."
I felt a pang in my heart.
Royce had never said this to me before. When we had disagreements, he always explained things gently and tried to make me feel secure.
Like with Yvonne...
But now, hearing this from him made me panic.
I grabbed his hand and said seriously, "Are you saying that if I bring this up, you'll leave me?"
Royce shook his head. "No, I just feel like you're not as committed to our relationship as I am, and that makes me want to pull back."
This was the first time Royce had shown his concern about our relationship.
I couldn't help but stand on my tiptoes and kiss his chin.
Royce was startled, then smiled and leaned down to kiss me.
I pushed him away and stepped aside, saying, "There are people around. Don't move."
Royce stood there, smiling helplessly at me.
I didn't want to continue this topic. The atmosphere was good today, and talking about this would only make us sad.
The issue of kids was for the future. Since I decided to enjoy the present, I would be a little selfish.
Thinking this, I changed the subject and said, "Brett mentioned he misses Briar. Do you think I should contact Leo?"
It would be a good chance to see how their family was doing.
Since Brandon's family had their incident, I hadn't seen Renee in a long time. I didn't know how they were doing.
Now that Lowell had reappeared, I felt uneasy.
If they were planning something, Leo would know.
Contacting him might give me some information.
Royce looked at me and said, "If Brett brought it up, you could reach out. You might get some clues."
"But Briar might have been influenced by Leo."
Royce sighed.
