Husband plans to kill me Chapter 401
Royce's words hit me right in the heart.
I had been way too stressed lately. No matter what I did, I couldn't stop thinking about everything that had happened recently.
Just a few days ago, I could still spend quality time with the kids at home. But now, even when I was home, I was constantly thinking about exchanging updates with Simon, Kathy, and the others.
I rubbed my temples and said to Royce, "But don't just talk about me. You're in the same boat, right? You must be pretty tired too."
"It's alright. Helping you out isn't tiring. I just want you to feel better."
Royce looked at my anxious expression and raised his hand to massage my shoulders. "If you're really not feeling well, it's okay to take a couple of days off. I can handle things for you."
"How can I leave everything to you..."
I sighed. I was dealing with a mess right now. Leaving it all to Royce would be too selfish, wouldn't it? Besides, Royce had already arranged for his team to help me investigate.
Thinking about this, I shook Royce's hand. "If I really can't hold on, I'll let you know. But for now, I'm okay. I want to do as much as I can."
"Caroline, you're actually the same as before. You haven't changed much."
Royce smiled at me. "You've always been independent and strong-willed."
I thought about it. Really? I didn't feel much different.
But remembering what Kelly said to me before, I hesitated for a moment. "Kelly mentioned recently that I don't like discussing big decisions with my family, and that's not good..."
Otherwise, I wouldn't have gone through a failed marriage.
Royce chuckled. "What's past is past. When I say you're strong-willed, it's because even though I've said all this, you still don't plan to rely on me."
He continued, "But I don't think that's a bad thing, Caroline. Just be yourself. But remember, when you're tired, come to me and take a break."
Hearing this, I felt a lump in my throat and threw myself into Royce's arms. "Thank goodness for you."
Reuniting and being with Royce had been the best thing that had happened to me recently. I had always thought so.
And because of everything we had been through lately, my relationship with Royce had gotten even better, closer than before.
He had always said he wanted to be my family and handle many things for me.
Talking with Royce for a while, I thought about seeing Leo and Briar before and sighed.
But I pushed those thoughts aside. I had said enough today; it was not the time to worry more.
That evening, Brett suddenly came into my room, his big eyes full of curiosity. "Mom!"
I had just put him to bed, so why was he here now?
"Brett, weren't you asleep?"
I got out of bed and took his hand. "It's late. You need to sleep well, okay?"
Brett shook his head. "Mom, I just have a question. I'll go to sleep after..."
"Go ahead." I thought Brett might have encountered something.
Brett blinked, his tone cautious. "Briar said her dad is really busy lately and doesn't have time for her... She was crying when she talked to me. She must be really sad, right?"
Briar cried?
No wonder when they came back from talking, Briar was rubbing her eyes. I thought she had gotten sand in them. Now it seemed I didn't consider enough.
I quickly asked, "Did you cry too? You didn't cry, did you?"
Brett hadn't been in the best mood lately. Royce and I had tried to cheer him up, but kids' feelings were hard to guess.
Especially since Brett was a sensitive child. I knew he didn't want us to worry, so he tried to hide his emotions.
"Mom, I didn't cry! I'm strong."
Seeing Brett's smile, my heart tightened.
I gently hugged him. "Brett, Briar's dad is indeed very busy. But don't worry, we'll do our best to help her. We'll make sure you get to play together more. You can talk to her more."
Even if Briar didn't want to tell me now, I would find out eventually.
Brett nodded, somewhat understanding, but clearly happy to hear he could see Briar. "Mom, I'll help Briar too!"
That was what Brett said before, and he had been doing it.
I took his hand and led him back to his room. "Alright, time to sleep... Your siblings are here, Brett. Be a good big brother, okay?"
Looking at our kids' room, I felt a bit reluctant.
Especially thinking about how the kids were growing up. Soon, this room might not be enough. But deep down, I selfishly wanted them to stay together, stay at home.
But I knew that was not realistic.
Because when I was a kid, I wanted my own space too.
I sighed and said "Goodnight" to Brett as I left the room.
The next day, when Royce came to find me, I pulled him into the room to discuss the next plan.
Royce looked at me and smiled helplessly, but quickly took out a piece of paper.
I asked, "What's this?"
Did his team find something?
Royce said, "I had my team investigate, and this is the feedback."
I took the paper from his hand and saw several photos, clearly printed in color, showing Renee in disguise.
I said disguised because Renee wasn't short on money. When she appeared before us, she always dressed like a city girl, even though we knew she didn't have a proper job.
Those years, Brandon "stole" money and gave it to her, supporting their family well!
Not to mention, Renee probably still had my money. When I divorced Brandon, he was left with nothing, but many assets transferred from the company couldn't be recovered due to complex procedures.
Renee, who always advised Brandon, was a key figure in the Jordan family and must have gotten more than I imagined.
Thinking about this made me furious. "Who knows how many bags she bought with my stolen money?"
"Caroline, don't stoop to their level." Royce smiled. "But her low profile gives us a signal. At least recently, she must be facing some trouble, unable to live as freely as before."
I thought about it. Maybe that was true.
Otherwise, Renee wouldn't be so low-key.
