Husband plans to kill me Chapter 331
Anyway, Simon was hemming and hawing, but basically, he still wanted to meet up with Kathy.
After hanging up the phone, I couldn't help but laugh.
No matter how I looked at it, if these two actually got together, it would be a good thing for us. They really did make a good match.
But knowing Kathy's personality, she probably wouldn't consider dating or marriage anytime soon.
Honestly, I was a bit worried.
If they broke up in the future, it might be awkward for all of us!
In the short term, we still needed Simon's help to investigate a lot of things, and with all the back and forth, we had practically become friends.
Thinking about it, I decided not to create opportunities for them casually. If they really got together, who knew what unexpected situations might arise!
I didn't dwell on it because I had other plans the next day.
Asher and I had planned to bait NexGen Innovations, so when they made an announcement, we could see if they were stealing our ideas and using our company's meeting content.
I also had Madeline help me get rid of those flowers.
Today was the third or fourth day since the flowers arrived, and if we didn't get rid of them soon, they'd probably start to mold.
So it was a perfect time.
NexGen Innovations probably didn't expect the bug they planted to last long. They just wanted to steal an initial idea, and the rest would be up to them.
But they probably didn't expect us to be so patient, only having two meetings over several days...
Seeing their two announcements, I decided to take them to court. After all, this was a matter of trade secrets.
So that afternoon, I went to see a lawyer.
I hadn't seen Travis in a while, and we sat down to discuss the situation.
"Mr. Franklin, you have been helping us for so long, and I feel a bit guilty that we haven't treated you to a meal yet," I said, breaking the ice.
Travis waved his hand, his face serious. I knew this was his professional demeanor.
"No need to be so polite. I'm a lawyer, and I get paid to do my job. There's no need for a meal."
"I've read all the messages you sent me. The main issue now is that NexGen Innovations is suspected of stealing your company's ideas, and there's also Brandon harassing you, right?"
Despite his busy schedule, Travis had been keeping up with our messages.
I found him very reliable, probably because he was recommended by Simon and Royce, so I had a bit of a bias towards him.
I nodded and explained everything in detail.
"When the flowers were taken out, the bug might have already run out of battery. I saw the red light wasn't on anymore. According to Savannah, the battery would only last a few days. They probably timed it with the flowers wilting... So I don't think there will be any follow-up. I'm planning to hand the bug over to the police for investigation."
Travis adjusted his glasses. "That makes sense. Go on."
"I also plan to sue them for plagiarism. What's our chance of winning against NexGen Innovations?"
Travis thought for a moment, then checked something on his phone. "The chances are very high, and they could be ordered to compensate you."
I said, "But our project hasn't been implemented yet. We just discussed the idea in meetings. Can they still be convicted?"
"This is your company's existing idea, and they copied it directly. Installing a bug is illegal, so if you take it to court, you'll definitely win!"
With Travis's assurance, I felt more confident. "That's good. I'll proceed with the lawsuit... What about Brandon?"
This was my main concern.
As long as Brandon was around, I couldn't feel at ease.
Travis looked through some documents and frowned. "We've been keeping an eye on Brandon. He has quite a few lawsuits against him, both before and after your divorce."
"So he's pretty notorious?"
Travis nodded. "You could say that. But the tricky part is, to deal with Brandon thoroughly, we can't rush. Even with all the evidence and his criminal record, we can't convict him right away..."
He added, "We're all waiting for the right opportunity to put him away for good. So it depends on your patience."
I had the patience, but after the Lowell incident, I wasn't so sure.
I told Travis about the incident with Brett.
Finally, Travis said, "As a lawyer, I can only help you if you have a clear plan. If you're not ready to resolve this, I can only offer advice."
"If you think Brandon has bigger players behind him or accomplices, I suggest you observe for a while longer to gather enough evidence for a serious charge. Otherwise, arresting him repeatedly won't solve the problem."
Travis made sense, so I decided to proceed this way.
At least resolving the NexGen Innovations issue would remove a company threat, making work easier.
Travis said the compensation could be in the six figures under commercial competition law.
Even if their project hadn't launched, planting a bug was a serious offense.
With this outcome, I felt more at ease.
Next, I could focus on Brandon.
The next day, I met with Simon and Kathy.
We met at a fancy restaurant near my place.
"Why not your place today? Why such a fancy spot?" Simon joked as he arrived.
I noticed he looked thinner and had stubble on his chin.
"Still in disguise?" I asked curiously.
"
