Husband plans to kill me Chapter 394
I already knew what Kelly was going to say, and I felt a bit shy.
Even though Royce and I had a deep connection, hearing Kelly speak so earnestly still moved me.
As parents, wasn't the greatest hope to see their children safe and happy for their entire lives?
Unfortunately, my failed marriage in the first half of my life had already caused Kelly so much worry.
Meeting Royce now truly felt like a blessing.
Royce held my hand gently and said, "Caroline, Mrs. Sharp, I'll show you with my actions that I deserve your trust."
I nodded, feeling warmth and security fill my heart.
Honestly, all the emotions I had been feeling these past few days vanished the moment I saw Royce.
I never thought I could feel even happier.
Especially hearing him speak to Kelly like that, and seeing Kelly's approval of him...
The weight on my heart was instantly lifted.
From the next day on, Royce really did as he promised Kelly, frequently visiting our home.
He practically became part of our family, even staying until Brett fell asleep before leaving at night.
One evening, after Brett had his bath, I lay down with him and read him a story.
He snuggled up to me and suddenly looked up with bright eyes, "Mom, will Mr. Castillo always be with us?"
I was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and patted his head, "Brett, let me ask you a question. Do you like Mr. Castillo?"
Brett nodded without hesitation, his tone very serious, "Yes! Mr. Castillo is very nice to me and plays games with me. Mom, I want Mr. Castillo to be my dad."
Hearing this, I was stunned, forgetting to turn the page of the storybook in my hand.
"Brett..."
"Mom, I'm not joking. I really mean it."
My heart warmed. I hadn't expected Brett to express such a thought on his own.
I hugged him gently and asked with a smile, "Brett, I like Mr. Castillo too. If he's willing, we can always be together. How does that sound?"
To me, this was already a reality.
Royce had not only passed Kelly's test but also Brett's. His place in my heart had long been different.
Moreover, during this time, he had helped me more than once. The sense of security he gave me was unmatched.
In my heart, I already saw him as my future husband.
But I didn't want to rush things, so I always felt there was time to take it slow.
Hearing my words, Brett smiled happily and hugged my neck, "Great! Then I'll have a dad!"
His innocence made me laugh, and waves of happiness washed over me.
Brett's approval strengthened my resolve to be with Royce.
But for now, I still wanted to take things slowly...
So, things like engagement could wait!
After Brett's kidnapping, I took a long leave from work to spend more time with him at home.
Besides, many projects at the company were ongoing and didn't need my constant supervision.
With Briar not at home, there wasn't much to handle.
The next day, Royce came to take us for a walk in the park.
Brett ran to him excitedly, "Mr. Castillo!"
Royce bent down and picked him up with a smile, "Brett! Where do you want to go today?"
At nearly six feet tall, with strong arms, he had no trouble lifting Brett with one hand.
Brett hugged his neck and asked seriously, "Mr. Castillo, will you always be with us?"
He was asking Royce the same question he had asked me!
I widened my eyes, "Brett, what are you doing?"
Royce was momentarily stunned, then smiled and nodded, "Of course. Brett, would you like me to be your dad?"
Sensing what Brett wanted to say, Royce was more proactive than usual.
Brett's eyes lit up, and he nodded vigorously, "Yes! I want you to be my dad!"
I shook my head and gently rubbed my temples.
The conversation Brett and I had was now being repeated in front of Royce.
Royce ruffled Brett's hair affectionately, "Alright, then we'll be a family from now on."
I stood by, watching their interaction, and a sudden wave of happiness enveloped me.
Perhaps noticing my lack of response, Royce walked over and took my hand with his free hand.
"Caroline, I don't mind that you've been married before. I've said this before, but now, in front of Brett, I want to say it again. To me, you, Brett, and the other kids are the most important. I will spend the rest of my life taking care of you all."
I didn't say anything, just smiled and leaned in closer. "Brett gets to decide this. I won't say much more."
I leaned on Royce's shoulder, a faint smile on my lips.
No matter what, Royce had passed Brett's test!
And I was sure the other three kids would like him too when they grew up.
"Isn't work busy these days? It seems like you've been home a lot lately."
We watched Brett play nearby and chatted a bit.
I nodded, "Asher is handling the new project, so I don't need to step in. The previous project wrapped up, Leo's situation is temporarily resolved, and Alfonso isn't causing trouble right now."
Royce snorted, "Of course he isn't. If we keep investigating, we'll definitely find him."
Not wanting to bring up stressful topics on a day off, I said, "So now, enjoying family time is my priority."
Royce listened to me and didn't bring up work or other stressful matters again.
On the weekend, Royce suggested taking Brett to the zoo.
We didn't want to waste this family time. The other kids were too young to bring along, so Royce and I were constantly thinking of ways to take Brett out.
Another reason was that Brett had become very withdrawn since the kidnapping.
He rarely wanted to go out, and if it weren't for Royce and me taking him, he wouldn't ask to go out at all.
He even showed some resistance to going to school.
Royce and I were worried, so we kept trying to take Brett out.
When Brett heard the news, he jumped up excitedly, "Great! I want to see the elephants and giraffes!"
I laughed, "There are so many animals at the zoo. How do you only know about those two?"
