Husband plans to kill me Chapter 318
"I'm not entirely sure what he learned from Leo or what Renee might have told him... but you should still be careful."
Honestly, none of us wanted to think so cynically about a child, especially a kid like Briar.
She's so young, just a little girl who loves to dress up and play.
When I was her age, I was probably still running around the house with a bedsheet pretending to be a princess!
But Briar, at such a young age, not only chats with someone on her phone but also installs a bug in my house with someone else's help...
All these thoughts swirled in my mind, and I couldn't help but feel scared.
I said to Royce, "You know what? I'm really starting to feel scared now! If there's someone lurking in the background, ready to strike at any moment, what exactly are they planning?"
They could be so heartless as to make a child like Briar do such things. What about the future?
If they really want to come after us, what other sinister tricks will they use?
If these kids become their hostages or bargaining chips, what choices will I have to make?
Just thinking about how I couldn't bear to look at my four kids earlier, I knew that if they were shameless or ruthless enough to use children against me, I would be utterly defeated!
I couldn't help but share my worries with Royce.
Royce listened to me and then said slowly, "You have a point, and I've thought about that too. But because kids are innocent and can be used, maybe we can turn the tables and use the kids to gather information from their side. What do you think?"
Although it's also a form of using them, it's the principle of not attacking unless attacked.
Hearing this, a few ideas popped into my head, but I didn't say them out loud. I squeezed Royce's hand and said, "Alright. As long as you have a plan, that's fine. But we still need to discuss it thoroughly. I'll contact Leo and see if he has any leads. If he does, I'll let you and Simon know right away."
Talking about this reminded me of something else, so I asked Royce, "Do you think I should reduce Brett's contact with Briar? But if I do it suddenly, Brett will definitely notice something's off, and knowing his personality, he might accidentally spill the beans to her..."
Briar is a bit cunning now, so I can't take that risk.
In short, I know I shouldn't cut off Brett's contact with her because Brett is very good to Briar, which might be one of the benefits of children's innocence.
This means that if something happens in the future, Briar might still choose friendship and make decisions that benefit us!
For example, even though she planted the bug, she still told me about it.
This shows that Briar's heart is still pure and hasn't been completely corrupted.
But I can't gamble too recklessly on this.
Royce blinked and said, "Let the kids interact freely, but try to keep it within your supervision. For example, if Brett wants to play with Briar, you can take them on a picnic. Didn't you say you had plans to take the kids on a picnic soon?"
Hearing this, I felt a headache coming on. "That was before. Now that we've seen Lowell, I'm worried that if we go out again, we might run into them!"
Thinking about Lowell and his cronies hiding somewhere in the city, ready to strike at any moment, made my blood boil!
And today, when Lowell's massive figure blocked our path, I couldn't imagine what would have happened if there hadn't been a passerby to help or if Royce hadn't arrived in time. What would have happened to Brett and me...
We could have been taken away, or worse, forced to face Brandon again.
Thinking about all the possible outcomes made me shiver.
Royce quickly hugged me, stroking my hair, and said, "The key now is to stay calm. I'm here with you, no matter what happens. Don't worry."
I nodded firmly.
We strolled around the park for a while longer before I saw Royce off to his car.
As his car started, I waved to him from the roadside.
I knew Royce was waving back to me from inside the car.
With hope for tomorrow, I went back home and fell asleep.
Despite everything that had happened, I knew things would get better. After all, I had escaped Brandon's clutches before, and I could handle any challenge.
The next morning, Brett came running to me, rubbing his eyes. "Mom, when did you get back last night? I think I fell asleep right after washing up."
Kelly, hearing Brett, laughed and said, "You washed your face, said you were tired, and went straight to bed. You didn't even know when your mom got back."
I smiled and said, "Royce and I went for a walk and chatted, so I got back a bit late. It's normal that you didn't notice."
Brett nodded and asked, "So, Mom, are you taking me to school today?"
Since bringing Brett back, I had transferred him to a new school, no longer the boarding school. Now, he had a driver taking him to school every morning.
I checked the time and saw that I had some to spare. There were still unresolved issues at the office, and going too early wouldn't help.
But I did have a meeting scheduled with two business partners today.
After considering the schedule, I said to Brett, "Alright, let's get ready together. I'll have breakfast with you and take you to school myself."
Brett jumped up and down excitedly. "Yay! My mom is taking me to school today. The other kids will be so jealous because my mom is super pretty, a real beauty!"
Hearing Brett, I couldn't help but laugh and said to Kelly, "Did you hear what Brett just said? How can he be comparing moms at such a young age?"
Kelly just smiled and said, "So what? Last time I picked Brett up, his classmates said his grandma was very pretty too. Kids need their little moments of pride!"
Kelly seemed genuinely happy about it.
Brett added, "Grandma is really pretty, younger than all the other grandparents!"
Kelly, delighted, said she would personally make Brett some eggs.
