Husband plans to kill me Chapter 366
"Didn't you just go on a business trip to Oceancrest City a few days ago? I thought things were going well. Why'd you quit all of a sudden?" I was a bit taken aback.
Leo replied, "I told you that day, didn't I? I wanted to bring Briar here for a change of scenery and a fresh start. I've decided to settle down here now."
"But when I mentioned it to the company, they weren't too thrilled. They said my performance hasn't been great lately... But I've been traveling for work as they asked, without any complaints. Their reaction ticked me off, so I quit."
Hearing this, I suddenly understood. "So that's how it is... Work can be such a drag."
I wasn't shocked by Leo's decision to quit. The last time we met, he mentioned wanting to move here with Briar, and I had a feeling he would resign.
I just didn't expect it to happen so quickly.
Leo nodded and continued, "I have some savings, so I'll rent a place here first. I'm planning to check out the local schools for Briar and handle her transfer. As for work, I'll start looking after taking a week or two off."
I nodded at his plan. "Sounds good. Since you've quit, take a little break and spend more time with Briar."
But I had some doubts in my heart.
The last time we met, Leo said he was just considering it and hadn't decided to move here.
Yet now, he had come so decisively and was already looking for a place to rent...
Did he take my words to heart?
Thinking of this, I instinctively held onto Royce's arm.
Royce seemed to sense my emotions and said to Leo, "A change of city can be good. There are plenty of job opportunities here."
Leo gave a wry smile. "But no matter where I go, I'm still just an employee. I have thought about starting my own business, but it's tough. I have a daughter now and can't take risks like I did when I was younger."
As he said this, he glanced at me.
I felt like he wanted to ask me something but couldn't because Royce was there.
So I said, "It's okay. Taking the first step is the hardest part. If you really want to start a business, you can look into the latest policies. There should be support for entrepreneurs."
No matter what Leo said, my attitude remained the same as last time. I was willing to give advice but wouldn't help him directly.
Leo seemed a bit disappointed but still said, "Thanks, I know."
"By the way, Briar, have you decided which school you want to go to?" I shifted the topic to Briar.
Briar shook her head. "I don't know yet... We've seen two schools, but I don't really like either."
"For school, it's best to find one close to home or one with excellent teachers."
I gave them some advice, and Briar blinked at me. "Ms. Sharp, can I go to the same school as Brett?"
"You want to go to the same school as Brett... But even if you're at the same school, you can't be in the same class!"
Briar was two years older than Brett.
I wasn't too thrilled about the idea.
I wanted to keep some distance between the two kids, especially since I was still upset about what happened before. Now that she brought up being at the same school, I felt like it might be Leo's idea.
So while talking to Briar, I couldn't help but glance at Leo.
But Royce was chatting with Leo and didn't seem to notice my look.
I couldn't help but feel more suspicious.
After a while, Leo said he and Briar had to check out another school and had just come to the riverside for a breather. They said goodbye and left.
The more polite and courteous Leo was, the stranger I felt.
After their figures disappeared, Royce turned to me and asked, "So, what do you think? Does anything seem off to you?"
I nodded. "Everything seems off! Last time we met, he said he was just considering it and hadn't decided to move here. But now he's here so quickly... What about you? Did you pick up on anything while talking to him?"
Royce nodded. "He said he quit, but I think he was forced to leave. Otherwise, he wouldn't have brought Briar here so abruptly."
"Forced to leave? Why?"
Royce glanced at me. "Actually, the people in Oceancrest City found out some other things. I didn't tell you before."
"Tell me now! What's going on?" I looked at him anxiously.
How could he not tell me something this important earlier?
Royce finally explained, "Leo did go on a business trip to Oceancrest City, but he didn't do much work-related stuff there."
"I looked into his company's plans. They sent him to handle a project in Oceancrest City, but he missed several meetings and only showed up once or twice. The company was very unhappy with him."
Hearing this, I couldn't help but gape. "So the company was unhappy with him because of this trip, and he got fired when he returned?"
"That's about right. And this ties into Aurelia."
I immediately understood what Royce meant.
Leo was supposed to be on a business trip, and he told me he was working hard. But he didn't complete the company's plans.
So he must have had something else to do there!
I suddenly thought of the restaurant Aurelia had been frequenting. "Did the people you sent manage to get into that restaurant? Did they find any other clues?"
Royce said, "Aurelia has been going to the teahouse regularly, but she's been in a private room, so they haven't been able to get close. But they're looking for a hacker to check the restaurant's surveillance... We should have more clues soon."
I couldn't help but give Royce a gentle punch. "You kept so much from me! I thought you'd tell me as soon as you found something!"
Royce pretended to be hurt and leaned back. "You're trying to kill your boyfriend."
"I'm not trying to kill you. If it weren't for you..." I pouted. "Anyway, if you find any clues next time, you should tell me right away!"
Royce nodded. "Got it. I just thought there weren't enough clues yet, and telling you would only make you worry."
